Something is better than nothing.

And, thankfully, I have an N95.

interesting theory below too on them. makes sense.

“The DIY masks, albeit creative, are only to serve as a reminder for us to not touch our face," Doyle said. "The virus can travel up to 6 feet if you cough, sneeze, vape, second-hand vape. Although, when you are out in public, you do not necessarily need the mask, unless you yourself are sick. And if you are sick, it is advised that you do not go out in public.”

The FDA states that when properly worn, surgical masks are “meant to help block large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays or splatter that may contain germs (viruses and bacteria), keeping it from reaching your mouth and nose.”

The FDA added, however, that a surgical mask “by design, does not filter or block very small particles in the air that may be transmitted by coughs, sneezes, or certain medical procedures.”

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s distribution of Opening Up America Again guidelines:

“The White House – like states across the country, including ours – is considering what a plan to reopen our economy might look like. We appreciate their suggestions, and we will evaluate them thoroughly, but the plain overriding fact is we cannot put the cart before the horse. As CDC, FEMA, and public health experts across the country have made clear, we are not at a point currently where it would be safe to reopen, and doing so prematurely would undo the heroic work of our health workers and first responders, endanger many more people and essentially guarantee [the] enhanced transmission of the virus, leading to more illness and death. Indeed, just today, we saw the highest single-day COVID-related death toll in our state. Every one of these cases is a tragedy. Every one of the victims and their families and loved ones are in my prayers. And as a state, we mourn with those families. The sad reality is we will see more; that’s the awful nature of this virus, and that’s why we absolutely must keep up our vigorous social distancing efforts, difficult as it is to sacrifice our sense of normalcy. We are flattening the curve – but we can’t stop now.

Please know that my administration is working doggedly to develop robust economic recovery plans alongside a plan for a thoughtful, staged and flexible reopening of our state – and the moment we can safely implement those plans, they will be implemented with the same dedication and focus that we are using to contain this pandemic. But first things first. And our state’s partnership with the White House to be part of a federal pilot program to demonstrate the effectiveness of aggressive testing and contact-tracing capacity is an enormous step forward. Doing the work to defeat the virus in this way will set the stage for New Mexico to be in the driver’s seat, nationally, for economic recovery – and I believe it will ultimately help state businesses reopen faster and stay open for longer.”

GOV. MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM

Seems like most people out are driving 100+ mph because not many people are out. Seen so many articles about it.

Man, people are still idiots. Not social distancing *AND* mask idiots. I'd say about 50% of people were wearing masks, 25% completely without and 25% with it down around their chin.
I went to the corner store a few days ago...

There was 2 young children standing right in the doorway, no masks, doing what kids do. Their mother was inside the store (no mask of course) causing havoc, while screaming for her children 'not to move from her sight' so they'd been instructed to block everyone's path and come in close contact with every single person who entered the store.

As I enter after swatting her children out of the doorway, she starts running up and down the tiny aisles F'n and blindin' about not being able to find stuff she needed from the fully stocked shelves, spewing her bile over everything in her path.

As I was being served she is abusing the poor shop keeper because her parcel wasn't there (they have a post collection service too). Screaming at him, screaming at her children out the door. Spitting everywhere. The poor guy is trying to work out what gone wrong. SHE has gone to the wrong store to collect her parcel.

So she goes into a store, causes armageddon. Her children have come in contact with Lord knows how many people and she leaves the store empty handed after possibly infecting everyone in her path of destruction.

This is why I hate people x

They all say it does "something." However little, it's not nothing. So, in this case, "something" is better than "nothing." Every single little bit helps.

And if people have it and are asymptomatic, it will help to wear it.

TBH, the people who are complaining about having to wear a mask as if it's some massive inconvenience or a government/media conspiracy are a part of the problem. Just wear it and STFU. I mean...is it *REALLY* that much of a hardship? Or do people just enjoy thinking they know more than others?

Oh Doll I don't care if you wear a mask or not, it is really no skin off my arse. If you don't want to wear one don't.

I wear one because it 'may' help, if it doesn't...oh well.

if masks were available, i WOULD wear one. dont give me a mandate to wear a mask without giving me an option to GET a damn mask.

seriously, people here have a really hard time with reading comprehension here. have i ever complained about wearing one? no. im simply giving facts about the efficacy of said masks and the facts remain they do little to nothing. hence the helmet wearing at 90mph crash.

ive been waiting on my masks for weeks. again, why people turn me reporting actual medical facts, case studies, quotes from the CDC and FDA, into me being actively against wearing masks is astounding. understand cupcake?

Simple question: If someone was infected, would you rather they coughed on you with a mask on, or with no mask on? Choose one or the other.

I know what you're saying and you're right, that is what the info says....

However...I also believe that a lot of the initial information about masks 'not helping' was released so they could keep supplies to hospitals high enough so the people who needed them in dangerous situations could get them.

Masks have helped immensely with the spread in countries who have been using them from the start of the outbreak and that is a fact.

It is very difficult to have a lot of conversations on here about such things when you have people from different countries who have been given different information posting.

In the UK we have been told for almost a month now that they help and to wear them when in public.

for simple peace of mind, obviously a mask.

when my brain then begins to process the interaction a few minutes later it would come to the realization that im screwed in that scenario either way unless its an N95 mask being worn correctly.

It's all about putting things into perspective, yes there are risks, but there are risks in the world each day, you never quite know when anybody's number is up.
