Schools just shut down here for the next two weeks. Only open for another week then Spring Break after. We all assume they will just shut down until the end of spring break (almost 30 days). No confirmed cases in the county.

I understand the reasons for shutting down places where large crowds congregate (theaters, restaurants, schools, etc), but what purpose would a healthy person staying home for 2 weeks serve? After the 2 weeks is up, you're back out on the streets.

The Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, has announced more measures this afternoon to combat the spread of Covid-19 in The Republic of Ireland.

Speaking from Washington D.C. He made this speech while he is in the U.S. for a reduced St Patrick's Day celebration schedule to meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

He announced the new measures for Ireland will come into effect from 6pm Irish time this evening.

All schools, colleges & childcare facilities will be closed & will re-open on the 29th of March.

Workers are encouraged to do remote-working from their homes.

Cultural institutions such as art galleries, museums & tourist sites will be closed until further notice.

Shops & public transport services in Ireland will remain open. Plans are in place to ensure supply chains for shops are not interrupted.

These are the most important lines coming from his speech today.

Quote:
We have not witnessed a pandemic of this nature in living memory. This is unchartered territory.

We said we would take the right actions at the right time.

We have to move now to have the greatest impact.
This is now beginning to become more serious than I thought. I was in my local Dunnes Stores in Blackrock today. There were 2 or 3 lines of people in there having shopping trolleys filled with essentials for their homes to gear up for this pandemic. They are probably all parents who have schoolchildren staying at home with them from tomorrow. I only went into Dunnes Stores to buy the obvious things like kitchen towels & toilet paper. I got the kitchen towels in there from a very limited supply with no problems whatsoever. But no toilet paper was there at all on the shelves. It felt like that it was completely raided.

Two shops later; I eventually found the last pack of 16 rolls of toilet paper for €6. That will last me for a good while.

Also; I didn't realize that Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson were sick with Coronavirus. Hearing that news is just terrible.

I hope, for their sakes, they both get well soon.

I live in a predominantly black neighborhood in Brooklyn, and was just at a local supermarket where a black guy was walking around saying "this thing not killing any black people!"

Less exposure to others who might infect you? It's impossible to know right now how many people are infected. You yourself could be infected right now, and not know it until a few days, or a week or two from now. This thing has a 2 week incubation period, there's simply no way to know who's "healthy" or not. No one is immune from this (though it's not killing kids thankfully). So the more people that can stay home, the better. If some of those people (like yourself) start to develop tell-tale symptoms, then you can call a health-line number or whatever, and make arrangements to go to the hospital, or continue self-quarantining if symptoms are mild enough.

We get it, saving money is important. We got that lecture from our parents, we don't need a random person on the internet also ramming it down our throats. BTW, it's entirely plausible to amass a large collection of movies over the years and still live paycheck to paycheck. Key words: over the years

Of the already-ticketed events I posted about earlier, 2 have now been cancelled or delayed (A Quiet Place II and a live stage show). I still have one theatrical performance on the schedule for next week, but there is no way in Hell I will be going if they don't cancel. I'd rather eat the price of the ticket than take the risk.

WonderCon (in Anaheim next month) is still stubbornly insisting that it will go on as planned and are not allowing refunds of pre-purchased tickets.

Yet, this guy goes hunting no matter what, lol!
How he can afford all those Disney trips is beyond me...
He is married with a son, but rarely takes them with him.
He has a YouTube channel (not a huge amount of subscribers) and sells some used media online.
I can't see him making much money from that, my guess is the wife is the major breadwinner...

Major Soccer leagues in Europe & the U.S. are now suspended for a few weeks due to Covid-19.

The entire squad of Real Madrid is now in quarantine.

I've got tickets to go and see Iron Maiden back home in Tel Aviv on May 30th. I'm checking the official website to see if the tour is cancelled due to this crisis.

A lot of the movies he's selling on Instagram are only $4 or $5 dollars. How is he making any money off of that? Shipping is like $3 alone via media mail.

The MTA needs to shutdown the subway. Seriously, the subway is probably the EASIEST way to spread the virus because train cars are crowded and enclosed. Not to mention that thousands of people touch those poles that we hang onto. Not good!

The subway needs to shutdown. You may complain that you need the subway to get to work, but this is a matter of life and death!

There's absolutely no reason to shut down the subway. That would cripple the city worse than the virus ever could. People don't just require the subway to go to work, they need it to go to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, and any multitude of things. It is the best, and most cost-effective way to get around this city, and shutting it down would be completely dumb.

You can elect to not go on the subway, which is fine. You are also told to wait for a less crowded train if at all possible.

I don't live in NYC, but I've heard more people don't have cars than do.
So public transportation is a must, as well as can services.
