Yeah, it is absolutely a must for me, and countless others. Car services like Uber are apparently raising their rates too from what I saw on reddit..

Dunnes stores! Ha, haven't been to one of them since the 80s. I'm a fellow countryman who grew up in Wexford, over in USA now. Thanks for update. My sis was scheduled to fly to Ireland next week , thought she can't but now I just read ban doesn't apply to citizens/permanent residents. Everyone in Ireland telling her "are ya mad?"

If you live paycheck to paycheck and buy tons of blu-rays you're not being responsible, imho.

Probably shouldn't be buying Blu-rays at all if you don't have money in the bank...

Agree 200%. Though I don't live in NYC, I've visited there & completely understand that due to the extremely heavy traffic and the high expense of owning a car & everything that goes along with this (gas, car insurance, registration, maintenance, parking, etc.) many people who live there don't even own a motor vehicle. So, shutting the train down is ludicrous - how the hell would people get to work & other places they need to go?!

I take the train on a regular basis where I live to get to work (and sometimes other places), and can't emphasize enough how truly important this is for me & a lot of others.

The traffic where I live is horrible, and you're literally putting your life in your hands just getting in your car to go anywhere. Taking the train is a much safer, convenient, and less stressful alternative. I would rather take my chances on the train than I would in a car anytime.

The F1 GP in Melbourne has been called off this evening. It may have repercussions for the entire season not going ahead at all because of Covid-19.

The movie theatre business is going to crash and burn.

When they close, all films will be delayed. And when they open back up, there will be big movie week after week but society won't have the money to see them because they'll probably be drained from bills and not working.

Look, nobody uses the subway more than I do because I don't own a car. But this is a SERIOUS CRISIS, so drastic measures need to be taken unfortunately or else almost everyone will get infected with this virus. It is spreading like no other disease has.

This is a matter of life and death, folks. We need to take this very very seriously!

Wear gloves. This virus doesn't linger in the air waiting to enter your system - you get it from physical contact with an infected person. If a bus or train is overcrowded, simply wait for the next one. With less people riding public transit these days, chances of encountering packed trains/buses are slim. If someone near you is coughing, move away. Here's a tip if you're a straphanger: get on the subway at the very last car using the last door. That section is ALWAYS sparse even if the rest of the train is packed.

And I say again, if the subway is shut down how will people who don't own a vehicle get to and from work, doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, etc.? I also say again that even if you do own a vehicle, taking the subway is preferable to putting your life in your hands by driving in extremely heavy traffic - especially if you have the alternative of public transportation.

Most of us (including myself) don't have the luxury of staying home 24/7. Even those of us who can work remotely (which isn't everyone by a long shot) will need to venture out for various important reasons like going to work or shopping for essentials - i.e., reasons which don't include non-essential things like socializing with friends/concerts/sporting events/going out to eat/seeing movies theatrically, etc.

I love it how everyone including media says that. It's not as simple as "waiting for the next one." EVERY train is crowded during rush hour and when there are delays and it takes over 5 minutes for that next train to arrive, then that next train will also be crowded or even more crowded. If you're going to wait for the next train that's not crowded, then you're going to be waiting a very long time.

You don't have doctor's office or grocery stores walking distance? Not even a deli or anything where you can get some food?? This is NYC; that is why we don't own cars because most places are walking distance.

I'm not saying lock yourself in your house. Being outdoors will not get you sick. In fact, it may be good for you because you're breathing fresh air. But being on a crowded and enclosed subway car, now THAT'S bad!

I'm not in NYC. I was speaking in general about subways. And, in my area nothing is within walking distance & traffic is horrific. I can't imagine not taking the subway/train. I do have to drive (or take a bus) a relatively short distance to the train station, but that's better than driving a huge distance in heavy traffic.
