Do you remember one of the first estimates from Dr. Fauci?
In the US, between 200,000 and 1.7 million.

Then it was downgraded to 100,000 and 90,000 and 60,000.

I don't know how they calculate those numbers (predictions) with deaths that aren't even counted in the total tally, and not enough testing (test kits).

Maybe those last numbers are the ones that sound better for the population?
Perhaps the earlier predictions included the people who die @ home and unconfirmed because they aren't tested? I just don't know, who does? Will we ever know, I have zero clue.

One thing is for sure; it ain't pretty.

Well it's certainly good news that the original projections didn't turn out to be as bad. I don't think they gave enough credit to the effectiveness of shutdowns and social distancing in the original models.

Not all of the places in North America that have the same cold climate as NY got hit as hard, so maybe there was something about New York other than "cold climate"?

Look, produce a scientific peer-reviewed study that shows conclusively that warmer weather will, in fact, reduce the rate of transmission by X% and I'm sold. Until that happens, it's all anecdotal evidence.

I could be dead by then.

Still can't log in on the IRS site either to give them my routing number to try and get it sooner.

Still waiting for my $2400 check. They say it could be several months so I'm not holding my breath.

I did apply for a paycheck protection loan today, which will hopefully show up soon. I could use the funds since cash flow is down about 25%.

The comparison was between Americans killed in each, obviously I wasn't going to include global casualties because that's comparing apples and oranges.

Sorry to hear that man. That sucks, but I would have been surprised if it happened. Any races before July for that matter.

I just don't know what to do, guess I will keep training and hope September still happens. Don't think I have the mental fortitude to run 26.2 miles on my own in an imaginary race.

The pandemic is not over yet...it just started.

The Spanish Flu (pandemic) lasted a full three years; January 1918 through December 1920, and infected about 30% of the world's population...500 million.
As for the exact number of deaths, anywhere between 20 and 100 million.

Hundred years ago people weren't travelling by planes like we do now.

Just cancelled my cabin and I will be getting a race refund, so that should be about $200 going back into my debit account. Bright side, I guess.

I got news for you - this winter has been exceptionally mild. In fact, it was one of the warmest on record. We had, like, one day of snow, I think?

I have no intention to do that either. My coach is just feeding my schedule as if I were training for a race, but it's hard sometimes to get motivated to train with no races (goals) in sight. I find myself bailing on runs more, cutting them short, reducing the intensity. I might do a few time trials on half marathon or under, just to see where I'm at. But I'm looking at late September for my earliest race (and it's a doozy, the Bear 100), and I'm even skeptical about that.

I just see running as one of the few things I have left and I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 9 years ago. So I will keep doing it as long as I can, besides it's nice to get out there and focus on nothing but one foot in front of the other. At least my coach is Hal Higdon but I adjust his plans accordingly and hope for the best. That accidental 13.1 in February due to mistakes and personal stupidity is looking a lot better right now lol.
