Can't we send some invasive species their way? Like dump a million magpies or ground squirrels on China or something? They're in Canada (well so far just BC) as well... |

China's HLB Los Angeles Times Huanglongbing (HLB for short) is the disease from a pest that came over from China. It infects citrus trees, and is the sole reason you can't buy a citrus tree as a consumer grower in most of California because it threatens the large agricultural growers. It wiped out Florida a few years back for billions. Asian Carp, USGS Gov, which is an invasive fish that takes over rivers and lakes, and generally isn't eaten by anyone. There are youtubes of these things just flying into boats. Murder hornets, asian giant hornets, which threaten the honeybees. Spotted Lanternfly, from east asia. Washington Post which threatens gardens, timber, and farming sectors. There's something going on guys, there's something going on... Last edited by ctujackbauer; 05-03-2020 at 04:27 AM. |

That they are. We used to hunt them in the canals in So. Florida. It's a really weird fish. It can actually breath air on land. Just taking them out of the water and placing them on land won't suffocate them. You have to kill them. I believe all states that have them have a law that says if you catch one, you can't do a catch and release. You have to kill it before you throw it back into the water.
Some say it's a good eating fish. The flesh looks like raw meat. I personally never ate one. They like to "buddy up" as partners (M&F) so if you catch one, the other will stay in place to wait for it's mate to return making it a "twofer" when fishing. I used to catch as many as 8 a day. They are very protective of their young. |

Regarding that NYC photo, it doesn't surprise me. Younger people have been feeling invincible for centuries. And it doesn't help that a lot of the news narrative has been that "mostly older people are dying.'" Teenagers and young adults hear that and basically say to themselves "if only older people are dying, then I have nothing to worry about" without thinking of the chain reaction of people who can be further infected by their lack of social distancing. A lot of those people in the photo look to be in their 20s and are probably still kind of in that stage where they're probably a little self-conscious of what their peers think about them and so they probably won't be the odd man out in the group to wear a mask if others aren't. However, there have been people of all ages congregating in groups lately and it's definitely a disturbing trend that leads a bad example. Humans are social beings and the old birds of a feather flock together proverb still apply when people are feeling isolated and miss human interaction. A lot of this is still so new that unfortunately people slip up pretty easily and go back to their old ways without really weighing the consequences of their actions.

![]() Edit: 9 now. Plus a few with them hanging on their neck like a scarf I am not counting. The people that show up with a mask and then don't wear it in a park full of people might be even dumber than the people that DGAF. Last edited by Hayabusa85; 05-03-2020 at 02:57 PM. |
