I was recommended by a social worker to wear gloves in a car service while traveling to a hospital on Monday. Not sure if it makes a difference, but if I do, I'll certainly be careful when removing them, and immediately sanitize after.

the main benefit of gloves is that they are disposable and a very good reminder not to touch your face etc It also would allow you for example to remove them before you go to the hand sanatizer so you wont infect the top of the hand sanatizer for example. If you are using gloves properly they should give you more protection then washing your hands since the virus never gets on you to begin with also I suppose.

Yeah, I just don't see it for the average person. The top of the hand sanitizer pump being infected wouldn't be an issue if you think about the obvious steps after dispensing (and you could just wipe said top at that point too, as part of your habit).

How do you remove gloves without one bare hand eventually touching a potentially infected glove? I'm sure there's gymnastics involved to comedic levels....

The gloves might work as reminders in the beginning, but I'm willing to bet that people just fall back into face-touching anyway. I'm also worried that wearing the gloves gives people a false sense of protection, so now they are touching more surfaces than they normally would. I know I do the same when wearing gloves.

You couple all that with the immense waste/potential shortage issue, and I say leave the gloves to the professionals who actually need them.

Two of the three biggest film exhibitors in the United States – Regal Cinemas and AMC Theatres – have announced that they will be reducing theater capacity to 50% in the wake of the coronavirus scare. The measures are currently scheduled to be instituted from March 14th through to April 30th.

In California, public gatherings of no larger than 250 have been instituted with other States expected to follow suit. As a result, AMC and Regal will cap ticket sales for each showtime to an amount equal to 50% of the normal seating capacity. In auditoriums with more than 500 seats, AMC and Regal will further cap sales to a maximum of 250.

They are also actively complying with all local authorities’ directives which include ‘social distancing’ which provides additional space between guests within all U.S. cinemas. Staff will be under stricter guidelines about proper handwashing, cleaning high contact points more frequently, providing hand sanitizing soap in all restrooms, and more thorough cleaning of every auditorium between every showtime.

New Coronavirus Test 10 Times Faster Is FDA Approved

U.S. health regulators have approved a new coronavirus test that will speed up by tenfold the ability to test patients, helping solve a significant obstacle to American efforts to contain the virus.

The Food and Drug Administration granted “emergency use authorization” to the test, which runs on Roche Holding AG’s cobas 6800/8800 systems. The 8800 system is capable of testing 4,128 patients a day, and the 6800 version can test as many as 1,440. The tool also is available in Europe and countries that accept its CE marking for medical devices.

Roche shares traded 11% higher at 1:29 p.m. in Zurich, the steepest intraday increase since 1997.
“We are increasing the speed definitely by a factor of 10,” Thomas Schinecker, head of the Swiss drugmaker’s diagnostics unit, said in an interview.

All the extreme couponers and doomsday preppers with stockpiles of toilet paper, 200 bottles of free mustard and a case of those really bad tasting instant mashed potatoes - they're all laughing at us.

How dare you hate on instant mashed potatoes! I happen to like the Idahoan's if you use milk.

Not to mention the flaw in self isolation not meaning gather the media in front of you and have people draw straws to decide who gets to touch and disassemble the stand and microphone he just spit all over
He did the conference from home, not with media present. Since he's in isolation already, it doesn't really matter if he gets tested or not, since nothing really changes. If he becomes symptomatic, then obviously he has it, and can take the necessary steps after that.

Let's tell the full story, many of those deaths were in a single nursing home.

I hate tourists so much, they are so effin slow! Not only are they slow, they often walk next to each other and take up the ENTIRE sidewalk width, so it’s either walk in the street and get hit by a car, or stay behind them. Why can’t they walk faster?
