Bill Murray and Guy Fieri Will Face Off in a Nacho Making Contest For Charity

Bill Murray and Guy Fieri will go head-to-head on Friday in a nacho-making contest to help raise money for the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The “Nacho Average Showdown” will air live on The Food Network’s Facebook page on Friday and will show a cook-off between Murray and his son chef Homer Murray, and Fieri and his son Hunter Fieri. Terry Crews and Shaquille O’Neal will judge each team’s signature nacho dish while the Food Network’s Carla Hall will host.

New Mexico is one of 18 states with strict stay-at-home guidelines still in place, 32 states have reopened.

In Texas, restaurants are now allowed to have dine-in customers, people can go shopping in person, and movie theaters are open, all at limited capacity. New Mexico, however, is one of nine states in the soft reopening phase. Wednesday, the governor announced we would take the first step in reopening, but she is still encouraging people to stay home as much as possible.

“We’re going to continue to prohibit congregating in large groups, and numbers of people. We’re going to keep that tight and small, we’re going to be in our bubbles, of five,” said Governor Lujan Grisham.

The first phase of reopening will allow small retailers to open, and operate at 25% capacity, movie theaters, concert halls, and amusement parks will remain closed. Churches will also be allowed to operate at 10% capacity.

Wednesday morning traffic remained light along the freeways in Albuquerque, Sky News captured empty parking lots, and an airport that looked more like a ghost town.

While traffic paints an image that people are staying home, based on cell phone data, the New York Times estimates 60% of New Mexicans were venturing out of their homes a couple of weeks ago. The Times estimates that the number was up to 65% last week.

In the same study by the New York Times, Arizona saw the smallest increase in the number of people venturing out from their homes. Arizona’s governor announced this week his state will be reopening Friday.

New Mexico is middle-of-the-road in confirmed cases per capita, compared to other states, but more than half of our cases are in two counties, McKinley and San Juan.

Personally, in order to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible given the little additional effort and expense required, if you know, or suspect you may have to enter an environment where people are/will be bunched or close to one another, in addition to a mask, it can’t hurt to also wear safety glasses/googles which can be found pretty cheaply on the internet. Palo Alto residents are now required to wear face coverings in public following a City Council decision Monday and an emergency order by the city manager, city officials said.

The order went into effect at noon Wednesday and was the result of a unanimous decision by the council.

Face coverings must be worn anytime a resident is outside the home except when engaging in outdoor recreation. Even then residents must stay six feet from others.

Children two years old and under are exempt from the order. Also, residents driving alone or with family members are exempt.

Santa Clara County, where Palo Alto is located, is under a shelter-in-place order until May 31.

So this ridiculous requirement is getting closer to home. You don't need to wear a mask outside if you're social distancing.

Saying you need to wear one as soon as you exit your house is tantamount to extending the stay at home order until the weather cools down. Who is going want to go outside and hang out in a park in hot weather with a mask on?

Also, if you're under the age of 24 you have a better chance to be struck by lightning than you do dying of the Coronavirus.

Not particularly worried about it. I'm still mostly protected against what I consider a remote possibility to begin with. But everyone has their own risk tolerance and assessments. Go for it.

Agree that's jumping the gun a little. Still over 3 months until the semester starts. They could start classes in mid-September instead of canceling the whole semester. And if the believe the forecast of a second wave this winter, do they think it will be better in January than in August?

I live on an island. I don't wear masks yet. And I'm waiting till they start selling them in grocery stores, drugstores, home hardware stores, ...

I do have a N95 but it's disposable. No good for multiple uses.

My sister started making them (tissue type); she'll send me some.
She's very good (she's a true artist) @ making stuff like that and much much more.

I don't expect Corona just to leave like that, no, it will keep expanding more and more.
And it will come in waves too. According to pandemic virus experts Corona is with us for the long term, just as we have the flu seasons every year.
Masks are going to be part of our daily routine; it's inevitable.
