Vaccines are never 100% effective and not everybody will get them so it is just common sense that it won't go away but the media need their clicks so they deliver the common sense in a fear mongering way. Even if there is never a vaccine it won't be the end of the world. People still get the old strain of SARS and there has never been a vaccine for it so when you read fear mongering headlines like that just ask yourself how scared you still were of getting SARS before this. Same with MERS and this is just another strain in the same family as SARS and MERS. The long term impact always significantly drops off after the first season.

And as far as I know, vaccines are 100% effective, but only against the strains that the vaccine covers. And with the long amount of time we are waiting for a Coronavirus vaccine, a new strain has developed. So it's going to be a never ending story. Think about it; if the strain changed when the virus moved from China to Europe, do you think it will stop changing now? I feel it will keep changing and we have to keep coming up with new vaccines. I don't know how people eating in a restaurant are going to handle it. I do know I intend to go get food from a restaurant tomorrow after the meeting and then eat it in said restaurant. Intentionally eat a tiny breakfast and then eat a decent-sized brunch on the way home.

You shouldn't have to wear the mask after you're seated, assuming tables spaced 6 feet apart. Otherwise it's going to keep a lot of people away as it's going to destroy the experience. I sure as heck won't go to a restaurant if it means wearing a mask every minute I'm not putting something in my mouth.

That article is simply saying what should be obvious already - we may not have a vaccine for some time, and even if we do, we will still need to learn how to live with it for some time because not everyone will get the vaccine, and just like the flu, we may need a new yearly vacine to adjust for mutations. This isn't fear-mongering. It's facts. |

I agree that the incubation period, whether 5 days or 10-14, definitely makes things much trickier to track outbreaks. By the time a new outbreak is spotted, it's had plenty of time to spread and get worse. Plus the fact that so many show no signs when they have it. That's good that so many don't fall ill, but bad in that it's harder to track and makes spreading it so much easier without knowing it. Also, not every mutation is enough to make a previous vaccine ineffective. They have already said there have been many mutations, but there's not enough genetic difference between them to have any effect on a vaccine. Yes, it's slightly different, but a previous vaccine would still be effective against it. That's good news. Whether it will start mutating enough that we will need a new yearly vaccine - only time will tell. Last edited by mar3o; 05-28-2020 at 11:08 PM. |
