Bars are non-essential, even as things do start to open. They're one of the last things that should open again imo. People drinking and letting their guard down while sitting all in a row at a bar - what could go wrong?

I don't get the rush to eat in a restaurant. I'd just be worried anyways, so why bother? I can eat at home or get delivery. I don't want to eat in a restaurant until I can enjoy it, and I won't enjoy it while worrying about this, with the servers wearing masks, did they wipe the table and seat down well between customers, etc.

Not worth it.

LOL - looking forward to eating in my local Burger King Monday. I hate drive thru. By the time I get home, the food is cold.

I do wonder how my local buffet (Hong Kong Buffet) will handle their opening against the new rules. The place is HUGE so reduced seating will not be an issue. I suspect they will not offer the Mongolian BBQ - you put all kinds of raw stuff on your plate and give it to the cook who cooks it for you. It promotes people standing around waiting for their food which will be a no-no according to the new rules.

My mom and dad liked to go to Henry's (a hamburger joint) when I was a kid and we'd (3 kids, so 5 total) always eat in the car in their lot. Remember the McDonald's sign then saying "Over 3 million sold", lol.

Cars were more of a hangout back then. Drive-in's. Diners where they bring you the food to eat in the car. Maybe they'll make a comeback?

Whenever we have an outbreak, such as the Swine Flu, we simply quarantined the people whenever they got sick, which usually is not too long after exposure. With the Coronavirus, there are people out there lingering for two weeks without any symptoms (or minor cold symptoms, for that matter) and spreading the disease to people they come into contact with. And that's why we shut down the economy; because we don't know who has it, so we quarantine everyone!

And as far as I know, vaccines are 100% effective, but only against the strains that the vaccine covers. And with the long amount of time we are waiting for a Coronavirus vaccine, a new strain has developed. So it's going to be a never ending story. Think about it; if the strain changed when the virus moved from China to Europe, do you think it will stop changing now? I feel it will keep changing and we have to keep coming up with new vaccines.
MERS and SARS have an incubation period of up to 14 days too. Again how much have you heard about them after the first season or worried about them? All viruses will mutate but so do our immune systems. Viruses mutating is also a good thing since they often mutate so rapidly that they weaken themselves which is what ended the Spanish Flu.

This will be an afterthought before you know it (In terms of the illness..... the economy not so much) just like those are despite people still getting them every year and no vaccines. And both of those were also more lethal at their peak (MERS was over a 30% mortality rate so it was something to be much more concerned about and yet it barely even got attention at it's peak). This is more contagious so it spreads more but it isn't going to be a never ending pandemic. In a few years somebody will eat something untraditional and we will be dealing with a new respiratory strain and this will just be another one used in how does new respiratory disease compare to COVID-19 articles just like SARS and MERS are now. Yes take precautions now when it is at the peak and stay safe but don't fall for these nonsense headlines that want to scare people into thinking 50 years from now we will be sitting in COVID-19 bunkers with twitching eyes and shooting anybody that dares sneeze in the bunker. All the same as you don't need to worry every time some uneducated journalist that knows nothing about astrology reports on an asteroid that almost ended us last week that in reality wasn't even slightly close. Or the Yellowstone Super Volcano is going to end life and erupt any moment despite the estimates not being anywhere near our lifetime and even if it erupts humanity has survived super volcanos in much more primitive times. We can find away again. Y2K? The media feed off anxiety because it makes them money. Admittedly I deal with extreme anxiety and can fall into the trap myself (I had a rough March) but when I just take a step back, breathe and let my brain overpower my emotions things become a lot easier to deal with.

Oh and no there is no such thing as a 100% effective vaccine which is why they always talk about 95% effective vaccines and stuff like that which is still a stretch. All the same as people will get this and not even know it because it just doesn't react that way for them for no apparent reason there will be people that simply don't react to a vaccine. A 100% effective vaccine or medication simply isn't possible since everybody isn't the same and a vaccine can only do what each individuals body decides to do with it. And again a lot of people won't get the vaccine so no matter how effective a vaccine will never eradicate a virus by itself with a 100% effectiveness since that would require every living human to get vaccinated and not have a single persons body reject it. Technically the same vaccine would also have to be used on every other living creature that can carry the virus which wouldn't be possible let alone the fact that a human vaccine wouldn't necessarily work on another creature. The goal will always be a vaccine that is effective enough that hopefully the virus is killed off by enough people gaining immunity that it dies before it finds another host that isn't immune. But again viruses can weaken themselves long before a vaccine is safely tested or found which is why we constantly have these taper off with no vaccine ever and I'm sure we will again. Honestly I would be more scared if we have a vaccine for this in the next year than I would be if no vaccine is found. There is a reason vaccines don't exist for SARS and MERS or going all the way back to the Spanish Flu and it isn't that they couldn't figure it out eventually. It is that they could unleash something much worse on the public if they are not careful and short of something like AIDS the virus simply eventually isn't worth the cost and risk of continuing to push for the vaccine when only a few hundred people a year are getting a weakened mutated version that burned itself out.

So why did that article that I posted say it will never go away? Not saying you're wrong, but just saying I'm confused. In fact, that's why I keep going back and forth from being panicky to not being panicky. One day I hear, warm weather will slow the spread. The next day, warm weather will have no effect on the virus. One day, we will have a second wave in the Fall. Next day, we may not have a second wave in the Fall. One day, the virus is not airborne. The next day, the virus is airborne.

This is all just so confusing and it's driving me mad and I think that's a big part of the reason why this thread can get into heated debates at times.

That article is simply saying what should be obvious already - we may not have a vaccine for some time, and even if we do, we will still need to learn how to live with it for some time because not everyone will get the vaccine, and just like the flu, we may need a new yearly vacine to adjust for mutations. This isn't fear-mongering. It's facts.
But what are the facts? It keeps changing everyday! That's why this is so confusing.

Oh man, what I would do to eat some fast food right now! I've literally have not had any fast food since mid-March, which is a record for me. I'm just too scared to order some. There's just too many people handling food, from the people in the kitchen, to the people bagging the food and to the food delivery people. If one of them has the virus, I could end up getting it.

Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food.

Again with the changing of the facts. Not your fault, but just saying what I am hearing. I know at one point they were even saying that you can get the virus from delivery packages. So every time I get a package from Amazon, I'm spraying the box with alcohol, opening up the box with gloves on and sterilizing the contents with alcohol. Silly I know, but that's what I heard from the news.

If I have to go through that much trouble to prevent catching the virus from packages, I can only imagine how much easier it is to get the virus from prepped food that I will be consuming in my mouth.

I understand your fears. But your stomach acid would kill the stuff. Wanna be on the safe side though....just microwave the food you bought for 30 seconds, 60 if you wanna be extra careful. That'll do the trick.

There is currently no evidence that food is a source of COVID-19 and it is very unlikely that it can be transmitted through the consumption of food, according to the European Food Safety Authority.

Coronavirus is not a foodborne gastrointestinal virus like norovirus (also known as the winter vomiting bug) which causes illness through eating contaminated food. COVID-19 is a respiratory illness and the transmission route of COVID-19 is thought to occur mainly through direct contact with respiratory droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Indirect contact with COVID-19 through touching a surface or object that has the virus on it is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. However, thorough and frequent hand washing will help to minimise the potential for indirectly spreading the virus from any surfaces that may have become exposed, including packaged and unpackaged foods.

It is advised to wash your hands thoroughly after handling food deliveries or unpacking your food and drink at home on returning from the supermarket. Try not to touch your face while you are unpacking the products and disposing of any outer packaging. Follow good food hygiene and wash fruit and vegetables by rubbing under water and peeling the outer layers or skins, if appropriate.

It's amazing that that guy manages to run a business, by his logic, he shouldn't let in people who wear seat-belts, wear helmets riding their motorbikes or use prophylactics.

The other lady assumes people wearing mask are about to commit a robbery ...

Going to your local restaurant in a HazMat suit is living in fear, wearing a mask is precaution, it's protecting you, your staff and your clientele.

I assume he's willing to accept personal liability for his staff and customers if they're injured on his premises? or does he have insurance? sounds like he's living in fear.

If I were to broadly generalize the perception of mask wearing culture in my neighborhood...

March: Masked person is either sick or a paranoid weirdo.

April: Masked person is awesome and doing what's best for community.

May: It's nice out and this is obviously over. No further need for masks.

That particular page on the CDC website saying there hasn't been cases of food being a primary way of spread has been up for months.
