That is scary, very.

It's going to be like this until such time (vaccine or natural herd immunity). Certain parts of the world will have spikes, while others bring it under control (temporarily, most likely). The silver lining with spikes is that it brings that area closer to herd immunity, so that the next time it won't be as bad.
Indeed Bruce, I agree with you all the way.

By the way, a little spike today; 6,600 deaths worldwide (850 in the US).
450,000 total global (only the ones reported).

Questioning whether to go though. Numbers are fairly stable lately with around 30-50 new cases daily. But let's face it, I'm high risk and if the dentist is asymptomatic with them only a few inches from my wide open mouth for an hour - I'm f**ked.

But if I wait, numbers are likely to increase again in a couple months.
You guys had quite a storm last Saturday evening, holy hail! Tornadoes unchained.
Many people said it was . . . Apocalyptic!

Ha. The wife and I were riding it out under our fancy pergola with storm screens...consuming bevvies. Was fun and games until a lightning strike seemingly right over our house scared the crap out of me. Turns out it hit a house a few houses down - thankfully didn't catch on fire although several firetrucks were dispatched. I'm guessing all their electronics are now useless.

But while this was happening I heard a plane and looked up and sure enough it was a seed plane. So damage would have been way worse without them.

Optical illusion created by two different type of masks (one mask is fully covering her face @ left, but not the mask on the right).
Plus one picture is closer to the camera (right).

So she sure appears with a larger face on the right.

Brazil is a country that's uniquely unfit to combat a pandemic of this magnitude.

I guess people there aren't wearing masks. Or they are wearing it on their chin thinking it's just as effective when worn that way...

Mexico is also having a hard time, and so is India.
The US is @ 119,000+ today. I think 200,000 by October sometime is a realistic figure, or beginning of November.

Pretty much all South America is fighting very hard.
Canada will hit 10,000 before the end of July, I think.

Summer starts in just few days; my projects are caput.
I'm having a hard time some days. I don't sleep like I used too.
My psyche goes up and down.

for Alabama membership, the situation -

update on COVID-19 from Dr. Jeanne Marrazzo, Division Director of Infectious Diseases at UAB, in impatient, scroll to approximately the 5 min. timestamp with regards to increased testing accounting for more positive cases, often used as an excuse by dismissers of the significance of the pandemic

and a little later at about the 8 min. timestamp, she says - “the timing of this is pretty perfect for when things started to open up at the end of May”…..https://www.facebook.com/UAB.edu/vid...4122252410370/

the positive news today which was a leading story in the media , was about a synthetic glucocorticoid in the treatment of hospitalized patients on oxygen (nasal canula or a mask) or on a vent –

as an aside, many clinicians have held belief that some steroid, like for instance methylprednisolone in the MATH+ protocol…

would be beneficial to patients and although yet peer reviewed, the statement out of the University of Oxford about the randomized clinical trial with Dexamethasone (more potent than methylprednisolone, b.t.w.) appears promising so far

I've read some too recently about some steroid ...
I remain skeptikal. We'll see ... anything good and healthy for the body and mind to fight this super contagious and deadly virus I'm all in.

As an aside; can they do mass gathering online?

When I visited Japan a few years ago, I noticed a curious thing. Every so often, I would see a person wearing a mask. I began to wonder why this was the case. I did a bit of research and found that people who are not feeling well or know they are ill wear masks in order to reduce the risk of spreading their illness to others. Whoa. Basic empathy and intelligence. No pandemic required. Who knew humans could actually do something like that?
My next door neighbor is Korean, and he's a World Champion Mask Guy. I've seen him wear one while taking his trash to the curb. It's awesome.

It's surreal for me to see these videos of packed nightclubs in Arizona where no one has a mask on. This isn't close to a reality in PA yet. You basically can't go in any public building without a mask on. And I have to say, at least in my experience, people have been very good at complying.

I got a letter in the mail about a recall service that might be required on my car. At the dealership, everyone wore a mask, and the employees at the service desk were behind a plastic barrier as well. They had sanitizer on both sides of the entrance door. Such simple protocols that could make a huge difference.

Yeah some serious spikes yesterday in Texas and Florida. My guess is that's largely due to increased mobility from the Hispanic population (or other poor) as they go back to work using public transportation, working in tight quarters, and mixing more with friends and family (they are a more social, tight knit group as a whole). Was listening to the radio about migrant workers getting to their jobs in packed school buses.

At least that's what is happening in California and even here in Marin county to a smaller degree. The majority of new infections here are Hispanics although they are only 16% of the population.

Since they tend to be younger, maybe that's partly why the death rate continues to go down (although it's a lagging statistic, we'll get a better idea of how the current spikes affect that in a few weeks).

I had a 2 1/2 appt. on Monday for an implant. The risk really never crossed my mind. They are wearing N95 masks which protect both you and the dentist. She wasn't wearing a face shield but maybe you can request that your dentist wear one as well for peace of mind? The hygienist was required to wear one as well when cleaning teeth.
