That article suggests that it has been with us but dormant for a long time and certain environmental triggers may have activated it, perhaps in Wuhan in those nasty wet markets. That's just a theory though. The problem is the media (and the scientists) should stop leaking every contradictory bit of new data to us by the hour, and instead give us more facts, leaving the hypothesis for them to figure out before releasing it to the public. Because the result of all this incoming data is people stop trusting what they are saying, which is unfortunate, because I trust them well before I trust the politicians. |

"The media" (SOMETIMES) gets unfairly blamed in this situation. As you said, it's evolving minute to minute and if they gave us NO new information, everyone would be just as pissed. Damned if you do... However, do I agree with spin or misleading headlines? Not at all. This post, however, was different. |

I assume these risks designations are making assumptions. Two that I've taken part in recently: Eating at a restaurant outside and working out at the gym. IMO, my experience these two designations would be switched. My gym has outdoor classes. When working out indoors, everyone must wear a mask, they have disinfection stations, social distancing built-in when on the machines, plus I'm in the gym at 5am....so not a lot of ppl, maybe 6-10 at that hour. Last week, a customer wanted to have lunch. We went Torchy's (Austin based taco place-first day of operation in our town was the day before). The outdoor seating maybe was six ft distance between customers. We sat in a corner and didn't have anyone with 6 ft from us. But, in the inside there was very little distancing and most not wearing a mask. The fountain drink area was limited to 1 person at a time, but not everyone following that rule. Some distance between ppl in line, but certainly not monitored to insure 6 ft. In retrospect, not a smart move on my part to go to the restaurant. Our gym, I feel is a safer environment (esp outdoor classes) |

Do you really expect the airlines to admit that flying is a high risk?

I would rearrange a few of the items in that list.
Highest risk: Bar or nightclub (by far) Indoor dining (if done with people from other households and are face to face. Ventilation also something to be concerned about) Church gatherings (especially if singing is done) Weddings (especially if people are drinking) Indoor gatherings at residences, or visiting friends or family and engaged in close contact. Playing basketball. Medium to low risk Planes: it would depend if people are wearing masks and/or their are physical barriers between rows or seats. I don't think the risk is as great as what people may think. Any situation where people are not facing each other is much much safer, and airplanes have great filtration systems so aerosol infection should not be a worry. Hair salons: if both are wearing masks, risk will be fairly low. Gyms: medium risk, depending on how well ventilation is. Any event outside is semi-low risk as long is people don't face each other for extended times, or mask up. Just my opinion of course. Last edited by bruceames; 07-06-2020 at 07:51 PM. |

And on some planes they still seat people like sardines by filling the planes full...even in the middle seats. Do they know that we are in a pandemic? They must know or they wouldn't do that. ✈ |

I think that Covid-19 risk chart from Texas is a brilliant idea. I think it's very informative for people who wear face masks & who are working very hard to not catch the virus.
I suppose a lot of people will find it ironic that the highest risk for catching Covid-19 right now is inside a pub or a bar in where alcohol is served to patrons. It's a real pity though that a good few young people around Dublin City Centre, going from videos on Twitter & Instagram, were ignoring that message during the weekend because there was loads of them congregating outside pubs on Saturday night. https://twitter.com/BarryWhyte85/sta...23136413761544 One lady on Twitter said that she went out to pick up her son in Dublin City to bring him home that night. She said that she was shocked at the amount of young people being out in public with cans & bottles of alcohol in their hands near Grafton Street. Another Irish lady, also on Twitter, had said that her own mother who had just recovered from Covid recently had tested positive for the virus all over again. I think these types of stories are horrible to endure for these families. Staff at pubs here also being verbally abused by members of the public for letting customers know that they have to comply with the guidelines. It all just boils down to keeping with common sense. If people want to keep safe while going through this pandemic. Wear a mask! Wash your hands & Keep your distance away from other people. If any of them don't listen to this advice & simple common knowledge on the issue. A 2nd wave will be here to give us even more misery to endure for the rest of the year & beyond that if they don't do what they're told. |
