Very helpful chart, but I'm a little baffled why takeout food is low risk. I haven't even went into any of those takeout places, but by just simply observing as I pass by, there are SOOOO many employees at these places that don't wear masks. All those droplets that could potentially get onto your food is not something I was would consider as "low risk."

Coronavirus | News

Quote:
'IS THERE A DANGER THERE?'

Advice from public health experts in Canada and elsewhere has largely downplayed the risk of airborne transmission of the virus, even as evidence mounts that it is a real threat. In one study cited in the commentary as an example, droplets were found to be the most likely source of transmission among three dining parties at a restaurant in China, in a case where surveillance video footage showed no direct or indirect contact between the groups.

The debate over droplets has been playing out since the pandemic took hold. Dr. Colin Furness, a Toronto-based infection control epidemiologist, described it as "a pretty serious fight, intellectually," but said the commentary is unlikely to lead to significant changes in virus protection thinking.

"The concern is 'Are we ignoring those small droplets? Is there a danger there? Are our interventions maybe not enough?'" he said Monday on CTV News Channel.

"It could be that a smaller dose, those smaller droplets, actually matter for [COVID-19] because it's so good at getting a toehold in your body once it gets in there."

In Chakrabati's view, the possibility of airborne transmission is overshadowed by the evidence that Canada and other countries have been able to slow the spread of the virus with the current precautions and restrictions.

"Are there situations where the two metres is a bit too little, for example a karaoke bar or a choir, where you're singing and your voice is propelling? Perhaps," he said.

"But I think for the most part, the recommendations that have been there since the beginning are the ones that are truly preventing the spread of this virus."

REDUCING THE RISK

Morawska said that effective ventilation systems are the best way to reduce the spread of microdroplets. She said the most effective systems minimize the use of recirculated air by bringing in as much clean air from outdoors as possible, and that even opening doors and windows can make a major difference.

These ventilation techniques can be augmented with the use of air filtration and exhaust devices, as well as ultraviolet (UV) lights that kill germs. Another way to lessen the risk of microdroplet transmission is to avoid situations of overcrowding, especially on public transport and in public buildings, Morawka said.

Furness agreed with the suggestion to use UV lights in air filtration systems, saying that there could be a "renaissance" in this practice because the light can be effective against the virus in a way that physical filters cannot.

"I think we will probably see a resurgence in the use of UV light within air circulation systems, because UV light will kill viruses and it doesn't really matter how small they are," he said.

Face masks do not play a role in protecting against microdroplets, Furness said, because the droplets are so small that they can fit through the holes in most masks.

"If we were really concerned about aerosol, if we were really concerned about airborne, we would also be finding that wearing face coverings typically didn't have that much of an effect – but the evidence says that they do," he said.

"It's not that we dramatically need to change what we are doing, it's a question of trying to better understand our adversary and better understand what some of those risks may be."

With the exception being the N95 mask of course.

Just had a check up with my oncologist. Looks I will be starting treatment for my CLL next month. Definitely won’t be able to be around people. Won’t have an immune system

Case numbers have been down the last 3 days, but then Sat-Mon are generally the days where reported case are lowest, so we'll have to see what the rest of the work week brings (Friday is almost always the highest case day). If cases can at least start to flatten out then that will be a big plus.

Looks like cases are going down in NY as well. Glad that 900 case spike the other day was just a one time thing. So, we're good. We can now take off our masks...

Well today isn't over, just hope it stays south of 50,000 cases for the U.S.

You have a good point there. Where I went last time the employees didn't wear masks.
Plus the food was old and atrocious and awful tasting and disgusting. I will never go back there, ever. ...Burger King.

Next time I'll try A&W; I think they wear masks. But their prices went up also.

And I'm ready to give up till the end of this pandemic, which I don't have a single clue how long that would be...2-3 years, or it's with us for a very very long time ... zero clue.

There was no lineup last I went, and the food came up right away. I could tell it wasn't fresh. And complaining won't do anything. Best is for me to never go back there, @ Burger King, no sir, not until the end of the "pandemonium".

Maybe that's why there wasn't any lineup; everyone before me was served old disgusting food and they don't want to go back and eat crap again.

Best's to cook home. And for people who don't know how, good time to learn.
There's no better place like home.

Of course they weren't open inside, just takeout.

I find going in town an ordeal more and more. A good place for me for fast food is Subway.
They are the most safest staff, and the manager is the best for safety and precautions.
Their subs are fresh.

The fact is people are not getting sick by ordering takeout food or delivery, therefore it's listed as low risk. There probably have been a low number of people that have, but it's likely very rare. Like opening a box or envelope. Sure there's a slight risk but it's low. That's not how most people are getting it, and everybody opens mail. Same with delivery/take-out. That's just not how it's spreading.

Yes, the best medical masks; the ones that don't let the smaller particles to enter (pass thru). But not all N95 masks are created equal.
And it also goes with material (cotton tissue) masks; they aren't all equal.
...Plus the disposable ones and the washable ones.

Masks are going to be talked about for a long time, I think.
We have been talking about them for the last six months or so, and this is not the end of the discussions on masks. Because of the various environments, and particular places where Coronavirus is more or less present. Plus, plus, plus ... We need different masks for different spots.

Bruce, that pattern is consistent from week to week. Sundays and Monday's are always slow days; like you mentioned in the past.
Looking @ yesterday and today, again the numbers are lower, quite lower.

TBH, the ONLY way to ever get good tasting food from BK is to go in the morning, get the burgers for breakfast, a Whopper meal, and it will be almost perfect, cause everything has to be cooked fresh...while they offer it, they don't have burgers or fries made up like they do during the rest of the day.

Before Covid, I went on a POP hunt at 24 hour Wal-Marts from 3am-8am, had the week off and was looking for some Wal-Mart exclusives, and stopped at a BK for a Whopper meal right before 8am. The food was so much better.

But eating a Whopper meal at 8am isn't for everyone.

Funny he tweeted a pic saying they were filling middle seats, but I never saw any rows with more than two people in them. A couple traveling together will usually sit together and obviously that means one of them will sit in the middle seat. Also three people traveling together will fill an entire row. His pic doesn't really prove anything.

Burger King is probably one of the worst fast food restaurants. And like most others, their burgers are just frozen patties anyway. But their Bacon King is pretty good when made recently. Their fountain Coke (at my location anyway) is also almost as good as McDs. Plus their app has really good coupons (which are really only 4 digit numbers that you have to tell them and describe the deal idk why).

A&W is decent but like BK their burger patties are obviously frozen. I know a few people who love their fries and fountain root beer though so they'll go there for that.

Subway is disgusting IMO. Their "meat" comes "cooked" already in the container that it's served from and sits there out in the open all day. Subways are in small towns everywhere because they don't need full kitchens or a deep fryer.. just something to toast their bread.

I went @ 5:00PM last Thursday. I phoned the manager to tell him.
He told me the situation. It's unfortunate the time of the day that some people have no choice to go in. That was my supper after a very long and exhausting day.
You go when it's time for you to go; the food should always be fresh.

Sure next time I go I can order the same thing for free. But still ... I had to tell him.
I prefer Subway overall. But they are not in the same area.
In the same area there's the A&W. The poutine is not the same. I always have a chicken sandwich there.

Burger King is for their burgers (Whopper cheeze) and the poutine.

In the morning I have breakfast @ home...eggs Benedict, or cereals, or French toasts, or sunny side up with bacon and hash browns.

I rarely eat fast food, but once or twice s month I don't mind a fresh subway club.
...With roast beef, black forest ham and chicken. @ home I supplement with LAYS chips and a classic Coke.

* Whopper meal before 8:00AM is for hardcore workers in town...you must be one.

We all have our own personal preferences. It's the same with pizzas, the crust, the tomatoes sauce, the cheese and all the toppings. I miss Quebec for the pizza and poutine.
And other traditional dishes from all over Quebec. I could write a book but not now.

Each place we have one item we like more. Subways are not all the same; some are mushy others are delicious (not the tuna subs). But the best subs are @ Thrifty Foods.

The best fries are from Québec. The best soup from Québec. The best ragoût from Québec. The best tourtière from Québec. The best cheeses and pâtés and red whines and bread from France. Bread from Québec too.

Supper time is coming up soon, I'm starving now ... hot dogs? ..Or chicken nuggets with perogies and baked potatoes, with Caesar salad?
