And yes, people I work with, and know personally have contacted it, and the only thing they delt with was boredom of not leaving their home.

It doesn't add up.
Let me start by saying, I grew up in a town of 467 ppl in the farm belt...so my background comes from a rural community. I'm not looking down on small towns, but Kirksville, Mo isn't representative of the cities that have the highest rates of cases:like LA, Pheonix, Houston, Chicago etc etc

Your situation is anecdotal. Fortunately you aren't experiencing a high level of cases, since (I imagine) hospitals could be overwhelmed if it was worse. Just looking online, you have 6 hospitals within 40 miles and another 3 (nearby) in Iowa.

Lastly, to "meh" the seriousness of those cities that are experiencing the crisis just because your area isn't seems a little insensitive to their plight. You should be thankful instead.

I believe disposable masks are meant for 6 hour use.

On a related note

Quote:
Behind Arizona, the highest number of anti-mask tweets came from Nevada and Florida, respectively.

Tweets in favor of wearing masks, however, far outweighed the anti-mask sentiment in each state, the study said.

In Arizona, Gov. Doug Ducey gave cities the authority to require face coverings rather than including it in either of his two statewide executive orders, according to USA Today.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak issued a mandatory face covering policy for all Nevadans last month after the state saw a four-week climb in coronavirus cases.

In Florida, the data lends itself to what many believe has been a problematic response to the coronavirus by the state’s leadership.

Stay-at-home orders in the Sunshine State lagged behind other states by about a month. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has not issued a statewide mask mandate but said he wouldn’t stop local mask mandates.

Florida surpassed more than 300,000 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Hillsborough County has the 24th-highest number of confirmed cases in the entire country, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center.

Arizona, Florida, California and Texas have all been identified as U.S. coronavirus hotspots.

Historically, I think it’s about 30%, but who knows how predictable that figure is when you’re dealing with a new type of vaccine (mRNA) - https://horizon-magazine.eu/article/...-vaccines.html
like Moderna’s (Phase 3 trials to begin July 27).

Could be higher….or lower with mRNAs.

I was watching the news last night and they literally said that we can get this virus under control within two months if EVERYONE wore masks. So there's the solution.... wear a mask, please. Thank you.

nice easy-to-read layperson’s article on vaccines (with the caveat that timeframes have obviously been expedited given the current pandemic) including somewhere further down the page enumerating the Phase 3 success % - https://www.goodrx.com/blog/coronavi...-live-updates/

As an aside, something practical which some folks may not know and probably at first sounds counter intuitive, but it’s not. Sometimes a free GoodRx coupon (available on online) will actually offer a cheaper price on your medication than having the pharmacy run your cost thru your insurance company! So, best to always check that out as an alternative to save money.

Numbers here actually looked like they might be getting better but yesterday and today saw a spike, probably the July 4th party numbers rolling in.

I'll just be happy if your kid lives to adulthood.

Oh, and I submitted the questionnaire last week to volunteer for vaccine trials.

I'm 48 years old, I've never been married, and I have no children. I'd rather put my tail on the line for people than let somebody's mother or father do so.

I doubt that I'll be selected, because they are looking for people in high-risk circumstances (school teachers, nurses, grocery store workers, etc.), so that they can better verify if the vaccine is effective. For folks like me, who exercise social distancing and who can usually work from home, it'll be tough to tell if our lack of infection is due to the vaccine or due to our isolated lifestyles.

Still, it's worth a shot.

71,000 new cases and 67,000 a couple days ago. Not surprised, I expect a massive spike for awhile as the numbers from all those 4th of July parties people had start to pour in.

It’s been a difficult day with record high daily deaths today in Florida and Texas, Arizona hospitals facing staffing shortages and continuing record hospitalizations in 12 states and deaths rising in 27 states –

I think this pandemic has given us all a new sense of appreciation for life and gratitude for what we have.

During social media discussions regarding COVID-19, occasional people have asked me if I “blindly accept” the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control.

Frankly, yes, I do.

The Centers for Disease Control is a leading authority on infectious diseases. Nothing that I find during a five-minute Google search or on a Facebook meme will hold up to their decades of expertise.

Dear Lord, are THAT many people not wearing masks?

I hope people realize that the highest daily infections we had here in NY was around 11K in April. Florida has surpassed that. Will these people wake up and reform their behavior!!

Clearly wearing a mask oppresses their freedom and rights.
