This is interesting. Thanks.

I had no idea Louisiana spiked while we were spiking.

It only lasted about 3 weeks, so easy not to notice I guess, especially with all eyes on NY and the EU. I'm curious if the surge now is in a different area of the state than the earlier one.

Our numbers have spiked since the governor shut down indoor dining. So anyone who thought we were going to have face-to-face classes this fall in New Mexico is dreaming.

Your state is New Mexico, right? That state is doing better than most actually. The latest trend there could hardly be called a spike, it's rather just a modest increase (at least, when comparing with most other states).

since I live in the southland, here and now, that 'won't go up much higher' prediction doesn’t make me feel much better, given – https://abc7.com/health/covid-19-in-...state/6105364/

and just today, with regards to news on causes of death -

this report, only CHD being higher than COVID-19, so far -

For what its worth, The Walking Dead did have a scene in which a family was playing board games and commented how they didn't know the apocalypse would be so boring without tv and electricity.

It was the family that the Governor got attached to after he was walking around and lost Woodbury and noticed his new name on a missing wall The Governor had to teach them how to kill the family member in the tub because they didn't know how.

Season 4 ep 6, Live Bait.

It was after a pretty memorable montage scene in which the Governor is walking aimlessly alone.

The first one, yes. The second one is being debated on the Senate floor as it has been for the past 3 days.

Almost 16,000 Restaurants Have Closed Permanently During The COVID-19 Pandemic

Quote:
As the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, we continue to get a clearer picture of how deeply it has affected the food industry, specifically restaurants. In the most recent instance, Yelp reported that almost 16,000 restaurants have permanently closed since coronavirus surfaced in the U.S.

In the new report, previously reported on by Business Insider, the company said that as of July 10, there have been 26,160 total restaurant closures in the U.S., according to data from its platform. Of those closed restaurants, 15,770 have now permanently closed, AKA 60 percent of all closed restaurants are permanent closures as of this date. This amounts to 2,956 more permanent closures since June 15, a 23 percent increase in permanent closures in just over a month. (It's worth noting that Yelp's data is based on the restaurants listed on its platform, which it has previously said is representative, but industry experts say we'll have to wait until official government reports to get the full scope of closures).

In addition to those shocking numbers, the Yelp report also noted that restaurants have now surpassed the retail industry to make up the highest total business closures since the pandemic began.

And people wonder why some of us are saying more needs to be done to help restaurants. It's probably past time to figure out how to help movie theatres, too.

How many stores can actually survive with an abysmal black friday? I mean almost no new movies came out so they aren't likely to be sold (not like years past anyway) and clothing/shoe sales I believe have been pretty awful during a pandemic. If they don't get corona virus under control by black friday and we still have record unemployment then I would bet toy sales among other things would also be stunted.

Overall black friday during a great depression/ pandemic double whammy sounds like it will be awful for everyone.
