ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico city council has voted not to enforce the governor’s public health mandates, including the mask requirement. “There is no reason for us to stop the way we live. If you fear this COVID-19, stay home. Plenty of people in this town have offered to deliver your goods to your house,” said Roswell City Councilor Jeanine Best. “There is no reason for bullying.”

U.S. daily cases through 7/23. 7 day average of 67,852, up 1% from last week's number of 67,852. But down slightly from a peak of 68,680 set 4 days ago.

Daily deaths, which is 887 per day, up 16.6% from last week's 761. Based on trends, I think the 7 day average will peak at around 1,050 per day (assuming cases don't continue to rise more than they have).

Which is why you really should get your exercise outside or in your own home...

Well also, gyms shouldn't be doing classes right now, that's just common sense.

I do think people need to stop working out in tandems or more, it's a pandemic, you can work out by yourself and reduce the risk of getting too close to others. Just because you know someone doesn't mean you aren't risking spreading the disease.

Yeah too dangerous to do aerobic exercise in gyms. Even if you space every other machine and wear masks, the aerosols will build up quickly. One could wear an N95, but that would make heavy breathing very difficult to say the least and HIIT exercise impossible.

Lifting weights not nearly so risky, since people are moving around and not breathing so hard. Don't believe that touching weights are as risky as once thought (or anything else for that matter, as it's an airborne virus).

It's too hot here to run outside, the upside to running on the treadmill is I'm not that close to other people. Also most people at the gyms here just walk on the treadmill, I'm sure in part because breathing through a mask while running is too hard for most people. I actually think it's less risky, although I see a LOT of people who are gasping for air between sets of weight-lifting and getting closer to others than necessary. My biggest pet peeve there are the idiots who work out in groups of 3 or more. The other is the idiots who walk up to the sanitizer stuff and take like 5 minutes to get the paper towel and spray it. Grab the towel, grab a bottle and move out of the way. It's not rocket science and it's rude to take longer during a pandemic when other people are waiting.

Oh I didn't know gyms were open in your state. I have a membership as well, but just built a home gym right before covid so I don't need to go there anymore (except for the sauna). So that's why you're doing the marathon on the treadmill, because of the heat? Will it be a treadmill at your gym?

Yup I can't afford $2000-3000 for a treadmill so running on the treadmill at Planet Fitness it is. Going to be interesting, before this training cycle the furthest I had ever run on the treadmill was 16 miles and I was nowhere ready to attempt something like this in a mask or a gaiter.

Are you going to be wearing a mask for that, or is it not required there?

New Mexico is (I think) one of the few states in the country that requires masks at all times when you leave your house. Why I did my recent 4, 8, 12 and 6 mile runs all in a mask or gaiter, to varying degrees of difficulty. Going to take my Buff and the Seirus vented mask I've opened on Sunday just in case the Buff gets too gross to do a full marathon in. If the Buff works out, I'll get more of those and send the 3 Seiruses back to Dicks and Amazon.

It did happen in March. Then we reopened way too soon, and here we are again.
