not only that but don't forget the anti-maskers.
If people have such insane and irrational fears about masks imagine something which technically can have minor negative side affects.

Count my mom as one of the anti-vaxxers. She refuses it saying she might get an allergic reaction that could potentially kill her. Of course, I try to give her the speech about how it’s more dangerous not getting vaccinated, but do you think she will listen to her son? Of course not. No one else calls my mom out on her mistakes except me, her ignorant little son. So my mom proudly has this attitude that she’s never wrong!

These anti-vaxers don't realize the irony that they all had their shots and booster shots when they were younger, and managed to survive.

It's the reason why several diseases have been virtually wiped out.

Ok, so our office was scheduled to open and be back in business the week of Labor Day. It is now September 14th, a week after Labor Day and I'm still working from home.

Grrr, when will this working from home B.S. end?! I've had just about enough of it!

What seems to be the problem? My office reopened June 8th and we're doing just fine. Traffic is slow but that's to be expected. The only thing my bosses are doing that to me makes no sense is they're making everybody sign in every day - hundreds of people have to line up to use two iPads in the lobby. Luckily I mostly get only 4-6 people at a time but it's still annoying having to supervise all of this in addition to all my regular duties. And there are plenty of people who have no idea (or claim to have no idea) how to use the iPads.

Chinese virologist posts report claiming COVID-19 was made in Wuhan lab

Quote:
A Chinese virologist who has alleged that COVID-19 was human-made in a lab in China released a report on Monday that she says backs up her explosive claim.

Dr. Li-Meng Yan, a former researcher at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, posted a paper on the the open-access repository website Zenote, that she claims shows how SARS-CoV-2 could be “conveniently created” in a laboratory setting in six months.

Plenty of offices are getting used to the idea of keeping people working at home permanently. It saves them money. At least they think it will. My girlfriend hasn't been back to work permanently since they shut down for cleaning months ago after somebody tested positive. Their company has already been struggling for the past few years. They are now telling employees to take their work computers home with them and set up thier own home offices permanently. Very few people actually come into the office now. It's a ghost town there. Right now she comes in once a week for 4 hours to print stuff and handle certain office tasks that she can't do from home currently but that's why they want everyone to bring their computers home with them if possible, to avoid having to some in at all. They recently threw out tons of office stuff they no longer need, letting employees take what they want (shelves, binders, etc.).

Her sister also works from home 100% of the time now. They even did inventory from home this year!

I think a lot of places are going to try this. The problem is not everyone is motivated enough to work productively from home. My girlfriend and her sister are thankfully.

and i see some concerns with the below..... first it says "she alleged that COVID-19 WAS human-made in a lab in China"

then it says the report shows how SARS-CoV-2 COULD BE CONVENIENTLY CREATED in a lab"

so which one is it. you saw it be created and it WAS created in a lab or she is speculating that it COULD be made in a lab which is then nonsense...

and i expect the virologist will be "missing" in the coming weeks.

The problem is people don't sit six feet apart from each other. So people can return to the office, but only a limited amount of people can. So they prefer that everyone work from home unless they absolutely must be in the office for some specific reason.

And not to mention that most people take public transportation to commute to our office. I don't think us NYers are quite comfortable being packed like sardines in a subway car at a time like this.

There's a bigger issue at play - and I say this as someone who's requested to continue working from home permanently.

All these companies spent massive amounts in capital to acquire their offices which are now sitting idle - which they still have to pay utilities, leases etc. for.

In addition, in every city globally, entire retail 'villages' have sprung up around these office buildings to serve the people who used to work there - fast food places, corner stores, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. etc. They are now all facing bankruptcy.

Many pension plans (never mind mom & pop investors) have invested heavily in stocks/funds/etf's etc. that leveraged retail and office space locations generating income. These funds are all getting hammered currently.

I suspect as with everything, in a few years some sort of equilibrium will be reached, but I don't think things are ever going to be the same again.

I don't think anyone is questioning whether it could have been made in a lab, they're questing if it actually was or not. I'd like to think there's been enough scientific scrutiny from all corners of the planet to have made a definitive determination on that - so far everyone has stated it's naturally occurring.

i understand that but this woman is an apparent whistle-blower of sorts...i havent read the actual report she posted yet but from the headline, she doesnt seem to have first hand knowledge and is simply speculating.

Marin County finally moved up a tier, allowing most all of the remaining closed businesses to reopen (although a reduced capacity). Look forward to going to the theater again. Indoor dining I'm kinda hesitant about though.

Also this allows K6 schools to reopen in two weeks. I'm hoping the school where my 9 year old live-in granddaughter will be one of those applying to reopen. Will be disappointed if they don't.

Twitter just suspended her account.

She got a doctorate, escaped China (possibly at risk of death) and left Hong Kong for America, only to be de-platformed within two days.

My city of Dublin today has hit a 14 day Covid incidence rate of 95.1 per 100k.

My region; Dublin South; according to my local health office based in Dún Laoghaire (Dun Leary) pop. 136k, is only showing 58 cases for the last 14 days.

That's an average of about 4 cases per day. The 14-day incidence rate is 42.6 per 100k.

The rest of Dublin is much worse though. Cases numbers are 2 to 3 times higher with the worst numbers occurring in North West Dublin.

Local Health Office 14 day figures are on page 8.

https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/...14_Website.pdf

I cannot understand how the rest of the city that I live in is a much worse position with these covid cases cropping up all the time.

The region next to me, Dublin South East (which is actually west of me because I live in the real south east in Blackrock), has about 12k less people living in it compared to mine & it has much higher 2 week incidence rate for Covid at 113.2 per 100k. My region has a much older population than the region next to me which apparently has a much younger population which may suggest that they are a lot more sociable than other areas of Dublin. My region of Dublin is much older which may give me the impression that people living there in my region are actually working extremely hard to comply with the restrictions of suppressing this virus which is quite impressive.

Also Ireland is on the verge of completing 1 million Covid-19 tests by Wednesday September 16th. That is about 20% of the population already tested for Covid since mid March. The latest figure on the amount of people who have undergone the covid test is at 989,406.

An average of 15k Covid tests per day are completed in Ireland. Wow. What a huge achievement.
