like every where else.

numbers are high, people lock up, locking down slowly decreases the spread, people look at the lower numbers and feel more comfortable and go out more, numbers go up again.

repeat ....

it is transmitted from person to groups and it can take up to two weeks before people realize they are sick (and some might never realize it).

My county's corona virus numbers have dropped by like 75% over the last month thanks to the fires in California probably. Having an unofficial shelter in place without many exceptions for a 2 or 3 weeks basically evaporated a large portion of our daily cases. Goes to show 2 or 3 weeks of strict lock down does more then 6 months of Swiss cheese regulation as our rate was going up till the air turned toxic.

But numbers were consistently low all throughout the summer. Now Fall hits and numbers are going up. Normally I'd say it's the weather, but I think we've come to the conclusion that the spread is not weather based since spikes were occurring during the summer in the warmest states like Florida, Texas and California. So something is screwy with people's behavior lately in NY. And indoor restaurants are scheduled to reopen soon in NYC. I guess we can say goodbye to that.

Oh man, how are we still struggling so much with this pandemic? We're going on almost a year with this pandemic and still can't slow the spread!!

It's because A.) there are too many people choking this planet, and B.) too many STUPID people choking this planet.

Wife and I are cruise lovers. Most years we'll go on at least one, sometimes two cruises. So of course we've been paying particular attention to how that industry has been impacted by all this.

We had future cruise credits with NCL and of course the companies are desperate to get bookings right now so they're offering lots of deals and incentives etc.

So we've found the cruise we want and are booking it this weekend. Cruise takes place in Nov 2022. So fingers crossed some sense of normality will have returned by then.

don’t get me started on how inexcusably miserable this country’s response has been as compared to a country like South Korea, from the Wall Street Journal, e.g. "Nearly everyone in the country wears masks" -

Yeah, well I've only said it 1,000 times about how masks were extremely important in dealing with this pandemic. But you know how it is... MrHT is always wrong, so people kept challenging me on that.

Oh wow, are really going to get into another war in this thread? My post was not directed at anyone here in particular and wasn't meant to strike anyone's nerves. I'm just saying that nobody is following the mask rule and as such, this pandemic is not going to end. Why aren't people wearing masks? Because they don't believe it works. And they don't believe social distancing works either.

I remember a few weeks ago, I was walking outside and tried to keep my distance from some guy outside that wasn't wearing a mask. When he saw that I was trying to stay away from him, he looked at me and purposely coughed in my direction. Not sure why that kind of behavior is justified, but whatever...

I can't speak for Chaotic

No one is picking on you. We are ALL strangers to each other, so if someone disagrees with you....it's not personal, so please stop trying to make it so. It's a Pandemic thread, not a Mr HT thread.

And yes, I realize the irony in my post

Odd that people think its worth their life to go somewhere totally unnecessary. I see people crowding into small places and its only just a matter of time for an outbreak to occur there.
Restaurants should not be allowed to be open for sit-down, period. Pick up only, with a mask.

I used to last winter but then stopped when it got really hot in the summer. It got quite disgusting where I was sweating so much in gloves and my hands got all pruney. So I just stopped and just sanitized my hands frequently, especially after I touch things. But my parents have been nagging me to do it saying that I should wear gloves every time I go out.

I don't know, it just doesn't make any sense to me and just seems like an unnecessary discomfort. If I touch an infected surface with my gloves and then touch my face, how are the gloves doing me any good?
Gloves never made sense to wear during this pandemic.

If you look at US deaths, it’s 3-10 times deadlier (CDC)....and only 9 months into it.

As long as you don't touch your face/eyes when out and wash your hands thoroughly when you get home, gloves are not necessary in the slightest. I only wear them at work when I'm collecting the trash (and I did that pre-Covid as well). If they make people feel "safe", it's no skin off my nose, but their usefulness is negligible at best. You cannot contract Covid from surfaces, only from prolonged, close-up contact with a sick person.
