Yup New Mexico just had its second highest daily total for cases, that's not good. Not sure there's a right answer here but a step in the right direction would probably be curfews. If people can't make good decisions on their own, then they should be forced to by law enforcement.

Well people are arguing it's not just deaths but I agree. Is it highly contagious? Sure. Is it likely to kill you if you're not over 60? Nope.

My boss sounded really terrible on the phone today when I spoke to him. He said he woke up with a bad cold.

I don't understand how people can get sick at a time like this and just brush it off and say, "Ah! It's just a cold!"

Another issue that people seem to ignore are the long term effects of it if you have it. Even with completely healthy people that get it there can be large amount of damage to your body that I guess people want to ignore for some reason.

That's not how it works. You could be completely healthy, touch a contaminated surface, and then it spreads via the mask or if you touch your face.

Sure, but are you likely to spread the disease to someone over 60 and potentially kill them? Yup!

Honestly, I’m not afraid of getting sick myself but I am afraid of getting it and spreading it to others. Both of my parents are over 60 and if I was the one responsible for their deaths, I’d never be able to live with myself.

I might give it to my parents but I also feel like they're more likely to get it through the dozens of ways they violate COVID protocols on a weekly basis than they are to get it from me.

Perfectly sums it up. My mom has diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. Other people have moms and dads and grandparents with similar issues. So I'll live with a few minor inconveniences in order to help with keeping them safe and healthy. That's the honorable and right thing to do.

Exactly. Someone saying 'Covid will only kill you if you're over 60' is like saying 'it's only a little bit of Cancer'.

POTENTIAL long term affects...we still dont know and a lot of guessing going on based on very few case studies that have not been long term studies.

yes, we've seen scarring etc but do we have any concrete numbers to go on? what % of people etc....

Bottom line is that since it affects people differently it's basically a gamble. Some people are not willing to gamble as much for short term gain at the risk of potential future loss regardless of whatever the odds are. Something else that is not focused on enough is viral load, which is associated with transmission risk and disease severity in other viral illnesses. Viral load in COVID-19 might correlate with infectivity, disease phenotype, morbidity, and mortality. On August 6th, 2020, The Lancet published a study stating:

"To our knowledge, we are the first to report on SARS-CoV-2 viral load at diagnosis as an independent predictor of mortality in a large hospitalised cohort (n=1145)."

You can read the study on The Lancet website under the heading:

SARS-CoV-2 viral load predicts COVID-19 mortality

More studies are needed to determine the relationship between viral load & potential long-term organ damage.

It will probably be years before we know. From what we've been told, it's been less than 12 months since the first case (the reason why there haven't been long term studies), we'd have to wait 5-10 years to have a clearer picture.

not for the non-prejudicially well-informed:

food for thought:
as this question is bound to come up with the President since he is such a high-profile public figure, however, more relevantly to some of us is if personally faced with the same situation - When can a family member or friend (based on science) be considered not to be contagious to others?

It's a little upsetting that businesses are starting to close again. This is so stupid! Cases are up, let's close. Ok, cases are down, let's re-open! Oh no, cases are up again, let's close again!!

I don't understand why we're repeating the same thing over and over. Clearly this non-stop repetition of closing and re-opening is not working! We need a different plan!

I have sport-related Covid news for you.

It's been confirmed tonight from the Football Association of Ireland via RTÉ Sport that a 2nd backroom member of it's staff associated with the Rep of Ireland senior men's football team has been tested positive for Covid-19.

This 2nd confirmed positive case is currently asymptomatic with no symptoms.

It travelled from Dublin Airport to Bratislava with the senior team & other FAI staff members on Tuesday morning. Two Rep. of Ireland players, namely Aaron Connolly & Adam Idah, are both reported to be close contacts of this positive case. They have since been removed from the team bench for tonight's European Qualifier Semi-Final match between The Rep. of Ireland & Slovakia in Bratislava.

The team & staff will be tested under UFEA Covid-19 protocols in Dublin from this Friday.

The FAI statement is here.

Quote:
"The Football Association of Ireland can confirm that a second member of the Senior Men’s international team backroom staff has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of tonight’s UEFA EURO 2020 Play-Off Semi-Final against Slovakia.

"The FAI employee had tested negative in Dublin on Tuesday morning but a positive result came from a test in Bratislava on Wednesday. He is asymptomatic and is feeling well.

"COVID-19 protocols have been executed and both UEFA and the HSE have been informed of this development. UEFA have also confirmed that the fixture against Slovakia tonight is not affected by this development. The Ireland squad and staff will be tested, as per UEFA protocols, in Dublin on Friday.

"The FAI will not make any further comment ahead of tonight’s UEFA EURO 2020 Play-Off Semi-Final against Slovakia"
Slovakia's football team also have a lost of a fair number of their players from the team for tonight's game due to having Covid/Covid travel restrictions.

Plan A: Keep everything open and the hell with the increase in cases

Plan B: Close everything until the pandemic is over and lose 75% of all businesses.

Pick one.
