I have a feeling this could turn into a Contagion type of situation with the wrist bands. Once you get the vaccine, you get some kind of proof that you got it. If you don't have that proof, or don't want to get the vaccine, you have to continue wearing a mask OR will just be denied entry to places.

My only concern about that is the possible violence that could be aimed at those who haven't gotten the vaccine. There are those who legitimately can't get vaccines, due to existing health issues, and sadly they will be lumped into the same category as those who just don't want to, or are anti-vaxxers who use medical excuses to avoid getting vaccinated when they have no such health issues. Keep in mind too that the general population won't be able to get this vaccine until likely mid of next year or later. An article I read yesterday said the general public won't likely be able to easily find the vaccine until late next year. They have lots of logistical challenges ahead, like the fact that it needs to be shipped and stored at around -97F. I read an article yesterday that said roughly half of all vaccines are thrown away due to storage and shipping issues. So factor that in. Then we need to actually come up with a plan for distribution. Drug stores and Wal-Marts? That's a bad idea, as they likely won't have the means to store them at the correct temperatures, plus the dosages need to be accurately tracked - every single dose. And people will need to be reminded to come in for the 2nd dose, as this is a 2-dose vaccine roughly a month apart. Clinics and labs and doctor's offices might make more sense for distribution. Though offering them through Wal-Marts and druig stores may help with public acceptance and make it more convenient to get, which is all good. But they need to track it accurately and follow- up every single person to get that 2nd shot or the vaccine can't do it's job. As far as safety, long before we're offered it, tens of thousands of healthcare workers and rescue workers will get it first, followed by the elderly, according to what I've read so far. So by the time we get in one, there should be lots of data on how safe it has proven to be. Combined with the current data that already shows a very strong safety profile, I think we shouldn't have anything to worry about regarding trusting the safety of the vaccine. But sadly a good portion of the public distrusts the vaccine already for no solid reason, just based on fear fueled by other factors I won't get into here. So we have an uphill battle convincing people to get the vaccine. Vaccines only work if people get them. |

Vaccines usually takes years to make. This one will be made in less than a year. I can understand why people don’t trust it.

Agree that everyone who can should get the vaccine. If you can't get inoculated for some physical reason (underlying health condition, reaction against these types of vaccines, etc.) that's understandable.
However, if you can get this - you should do it. I don't understand the mentality of anti-vaxxer's -especially in this case. I.e., if you don't care about yourself, fine. But, re: COVID-19 - if you don't get vaccinated, you can have the illness (whether or not you're aware of this) and potentially spread this to someone else who could get extremely sick and possibly die as a result - or else suffer long-term/permanent negative health effects. Somebody want to explain to me what purpose this article has, other than to be socially irresponsible?:
Covid-19 vaccine may have unpleasant side effects. That will mean it's working. https://www.yahoo.com/news/covid-19-...100438136.html So similar side-effects as the flu-shot: "flu-like side effects — including sore arms, muscle aches and fever". But people will see this and now even more people won't take it. nice job, Yahoo. Quality reporting. They worded that headline for clicks of course. Regardless of the harm it causes. How about: "Covid-19 vaccine will have similar side effects as the flu vaccine"? But that isn't as dramatic. |

Vaccines usually don't have the entire planet simultaneously working on trying to develop one to curb a pandemic. This one had that benefit.

I'm the only person in my office here in Georgia who bothers wearing a mask. I wear a mask whenever I'm indoors anywhere except for my own home, and I also wear one outdoors if I cannot socially distance in certain situations.
A week or so ago, a co-worker asked me why I always wear a mask in the office. I told her about a running acquaintance, a Boston Marathon qualifier, who spent three days on a ventilator because of COVID-19 and had to walk around his house with assistance for weeks. This co-worker asked me, “What else was wrong with him?” When I told her that the guy had been perfectly healthy, she replied, “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard of somebody healthy having trouble with it. Most of the people who get really sick are unhealthy people who should have taken better care of themselves” She then told me, “Hospitals are over-counting the deaths, and it’s all political. People shouldn’t be politicizing this. They’re making a big issue out of it. I only wear a mask when I’m absolutely required to. I just want all of this to go away. I’m sick of it.” This co-worker is an engineer who should know better. I did not argue with her, simply because I did not know where to begin. The sheer level of gaslighting with regard to her beliefs just amazed me. This co-worker is not an out-of-ordinary example here in Georgia. Most of the people down here seem to share her opinions. This country is losing its mind. I feel like Donald Sutherland's character at the end of the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, as though I'm the last normal human alive on Earth and all of the others are having their minds taken over. |
