Should've sacrificed the airline industry weeks ago to stop the spread.

They were always going to need a bailout over this virus. Now they've dragged everyone down with them.

I agree with most of what you say with the exception of "low skilled labour, wages will increase." Taking the perspective of a manufacturing company, why would you pay a higher wage (+ benefits) to a low skilled, minimally educated worker when you could automate their task or farm production out to a low wage country like China? For example, if Apple was forced to build their product in America and pay their line assemblers $15 an hour plus decent benefits, what do you think an iPhone would cost? Probably about $3,000+.

Flip that around and give such a company no choice but to capitulate to such regulations, they'll either outright move to another less restrictive country altogether, or shut down. You can incentivize a company (via reduced or zero taxes, etc) to keep production in the country (the US in this case) but where does that incentive money come from? Where does it start, where does it stop?

Yet this crisis is showing how economically suicidal it is to outsource key parts of your economy to places with cheaper labour. It's a headache like, and I'm not sure it's ever going to be fully solved. Unless the rest of the world rapidly develops to a point their isn't an abundance of cheap labour to exploit.

Or it would cost exactly the same because that is the most people are willing to pay and the billionaires line their pockets with a few less billions.

They are both hot and humid places year round, which is not ideal for a virus to thrive in.

I'm currently getting a rant from my lady friend from Singapore about all the criticism they get form the West about being supposedly "authoritarian" lol.

I noticed NY (probably NYC) has the most cases at ~27% of all confirmed cases in the US. Followed by Washington (16%), California (11%) and Massachusetts (4%).

MERS-CoV was born from Saudi Arabia and 110+ degree F temperatures.

I think the jury and medical research is still out on covid-19 not being able to adapt in hot or humid areas. (meaning that it wouldn't be able to thrive in a general population in a hot and humid area, not being isolated from everything on a piece of plastic or cardboard in the sun all day)

Also, see: Australia, currently.

I never said it couldn't adapt or exist, just that heat and humidity is the least ideal environment for it to thrive. You can doubt it all you want.

I didn't know Australia was so humid.

I think they should forgo the usual timetable for testing remdesivir , and just release the damn thing
ASAP. At the very least expand, and have more clinical trials to allow the drug to be used by more people. From what I've read the biggest side effects are GI problems, and elevated liver enzymes.

It's a fact that viruses travel more easily in cold dry weather. Saying the weather there is not a factor at all in helping the containment is ridiculous.
