My apologies, guys. I'm just freaking out. It's just feeling like the end of the world here. And the fact that news gets worse and worse each day doesn't help.

My bad, I'll try to calm down...

They can start by grounding all flights except for people with approval.

Every couple days I hear horror stories about people in arrivals with flu like symptoms or a TSA agent catching it.

With Amazon not accepting new shipments of non-medical and non-essential supplies until at least the beginning of April, I wonder how long it will be before we don't get the new releases. And, of course, once that starts I wonder how long it will go on. Of course many releases we can order direct from the suppliers, but it's considerably more expensive that way, without the Amazon pre-order price guarantee. Sorry if this has already been asked.
Digital will get pushed really hard...

Younger Adults Comprise Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.

Quote:
American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.

The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.

NYSE to temporarily close trading floor, move to electronic trading because of coronavirus

Quote:
The New York Stock Exchange said Wednesday it will temporarily close its historic trading floor and move fully to electronic trading after two people tested positive for coronavirus infection at screenings it had set up this week.

All-electronic trading will begin on March 23 at the open, the exchange said. The facilities to be closed are the NYSE equities trading floor and NYSE American Options trading floor in New York, and NYSE Arca Options trading floor in San Francisco.

The closure was in part as a result of positive coronavirus tests of two people, Stacey Cunningham, President of the NYSE, told CNBC. The entrants were stopped at the medical screenings at the Big Board.

Just try to remember that we're all in this together and it's not going to be the end of the world. We're very adaptive as a species and we will find a new normal eventually. Everyone just wants to resume their "normal" lives, whatever that may be, and every effort will be made to get that back as soon as we can.

Yes, the news will likely get worse for awhile but there will be just as many good stories about small acts of kindness, compassion, and heroics. We all have the power to do something good for someone else and through that, we can help shape the future course of events instead of just waiting for the worst-case scenario to happen to us.

Though, to play devil's advocate, there are many of us who might be in extreme dire straits because of this. Myself and MANY of my friends are completely out of work over this...and I have no idea when that might change.

So, yeah, on top of not having a job...we also might die of a virus. Will it happen? Probably not. But *IF* we don't die, then we have to figure out what the Hell we're doing with our jobs.

Wow, finally someone with a normal response. And one that isn't just panicking and speculation.

You know what they say, hope for the best but expect the worst.

I do have to ask though. How many of you are actually ready in the event that shtf? Do you have any training in firearms, wildness survival, hunting, cleaning and preparing game? If not then I strongly recommend you look into these things. How to treat water and things like starting fires without matches and lighters. Basic things like this are always good to know regardless of if things get bad.
Remember you don't have to be in the woods or country to learn how to do these things. Reading or watching videos on YT is always a start.

Young people are not taking this seriously enough because they think they don't have to worry. They're too clueless to realize what this is doing to out economy. Look at those Spring Break videos. All they are thinking about is themselves while the rest of us are stressing over our jobs, the economy, washing our hands every time we touch a shopping cart or door handle, etc.

This sounds harsh, but we might have been better off if this virus posed an equal threat to younger people as well as older people or people with weakened immure systems. Then they'd take this seriously since it's their a** on the line and that would be better for all of us. Instead, they're treating it as a joke.

And they will all be coming back home after spring break and partying. I suspect that in the coming weeks once we get testing ramped up, we're going to see the numbers are much different, and not in our favor.

The irony is they're not immune by any means. Younger people in their 20's are absolutely getting infected too and getting sick, and some are dying. It's just they tend to have greater resistance to it than those who are older. So many think they don't have to worry.

I don't wish this illness on anybody, but I wish younger people would start considering those who are more at risk. I'm sure some do, but from those videos, there are many shallow spring breakers out there that are more upset at not getting to visit the local bars than worrying about their parents.

Wrong. Amazon itself is not re-ordering/re-stocking any items that are non-essential or health-related. Blu-rays, book, games, furniture, electronics - nothing is being re-stocked until further notice. They need the extra shelf space to stock up on necessary health supplies. So if something is out of stock you wanted, don't hold your breath for it to come back into stock in the next few weeks.

I ordered something the other day and Prime shipping is taking 4-5 days because they're prioritizing health shipments. This is Amazon, not 3rd party sellers.

Turn the news off !!
Turn it all off , this thread included. You need to do something that preoccupies your time for a portion of the day.
Following the news/social media all day and night will break you down.
Seriously step away for a bit and or limit your time.

It is 3rd party sellers.

https://www.businessinsider.com/coro...ehouses-2020-3

"Amazon told sellers and vendors on Tuesday that it was suspending shipments of all nonessential products to its warehouses to deal with the increased workloads following the coronavirus outbreak."

"Amazon is now prioritizing medical supplies, household staples, and other high-demand products to its warehouses until April 5."

"The change only affects shipments to Amazon's warehouses, not the last-mile deliveries to consumers."

""We are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers," the message read."

"On Tuesday the company told sellers and vendors that it would accept only shipments of "household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products" to its warehouse until April 5 to deal with the high demand of those products amid the coronavirus crisis.

That means sellers who use Amazon's storage and delivery network for a fixed fee, through a program called Fulfillment by Amazon, will no longer be able to ship nonessential products to Amazon. The same restrictions apply to vendors who wholesale their products to Amazon, who then resells them at a markup.

It doesn't affect last-mile shipments of those products to consumers.

Amazon said in an email to sellers that it was now prioritizing shipment in the following six categories: baby product; health and household (including personal-care appliances); beauty and personal care; grocery; industrial and scientific; pet supplies.

"We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock," the email obtained by Business Insider said. "With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers.""

Yeah if you can't hack it, don't think of yourself as weak for tuning it out. A lot of people no matter how mentally resilient we are having our own mental struggles adapting to the rapid changes away from the norm.

If you need to voice it we will listen. Kindness and compassion our the best cure we have right now.

Looks like we'll be dealing with this for at least 18 months, which is when a vaccine is expected to be available. I guess they don't think the warm weather will combat the virus.
I hate that site because they exaggerate everything. The community over there are a bunch of angry curmudgeons who hate on everything they report on and the authors know it, so their articles are heavily slanted to generate lots of clicks from the commenters who spend most of their time insulting each other in the comments, swearing at each other, and down-voting each other. Their headlines are often disingenuous and misleading. And their "facts" are often incorrect or incomplete. That site has really gone downhill over the years.

If you actually read the linked report, what it really says is the government is preparing for up to 18 months of uncertainty due to current lack of hard figures. It doesn't mean they know for a fact it will run 18 months. We just don't have enough info yet to know how this thing will play out, so it makes sense to prepare for the long-term. We should have been better prepared in the first place. This caught us completely off guard. What will affect us long-term is the financial fallout from all this.

That being said, it could indeed be upwards of 18 months before we have a vaccine available to everyone. Or it could be sooner. There were articles today that an already-developed regular flu treatment is being tested in Japan on this virus and it seems to cut the duration of illness and length of time an infected person tests positive from 11 days down to 4, so they're aggressively testing this. They say it doesn't work great if you have a more serious case of it, but it you're not very ill, it has the potential to cut the infection time way down. So don't panic because of that article. I know the same basic headline is being reported elsewhere now too, but we all know clicks generate money so they are as dramatic as possible. We'll just have to see how it plays out and hope the warmer weather helps us out.
