Yes, the news will likely get worse for awhile but there will be just as many good stories about small acts of kindness, compassion, and heroics. We all have the power to do something good for someone else and through that, we can help shape the future course of events instead of just waiting for the worst-case scenario to happen to us. ![]() |

So, yeah, on top of not having a job...we also might die of a virus. Will it happen? Probably not. But *IF* we don't die, then we have to figure out what the Hell we're doing with our jobs. |

You know what they say, hope for the best but expect the worst. I do have to ask though. How many of you are actually ready in the event that shtf? Do you have any training in firearms, wildness survival, hunting, cleaning and preparing game? If not then I strongly recommend you look into these things. How to treat water and things like starting fires without matches and lighters. Basic things like this are always good to know regardless of if things get bad. Remember you don't have to be in the woods or country to learn how to do these things. Reading or watching videos on YT is always a start. Last edited by neoz; 03-19-2020 at 06:36 AM. |

Young people are not taking this seriously enough because they think they don't have to worry. They're too clueless to realize what this is doing to out economy. Look at those Spring Break videos. All they are thinking about is themselves while the rest of us are stressing over our jobs, the economy, washing our hands every time we touch a shopping cart or door handle, etc.
This sounds harsh, but we might have been better off if this virus posed an equal threat to younger people as well as older people or people with weakened immure systems. Then they'd take this seriously since it's their a** on the line and that would be better for all of us. Instead, they're treating it as a joke. And they will all be coming back home after spring break and partying. I suspect that in the coming weeks once we get testing ramped up, we're going to see the numbers are much different, and not in our favor. The irony is they're not immune by any means. Younger people in their 20's are absolutely getting infected too and getting sick, and some are dying. It's just they tend to have greater resistance to it than those who are older. So many think they don't have to worry. I don't wish this illness on anybody, but I wish younger people would start considering those who are more at risk. I'm sure some do, but from those videos, there are many shallow spring breakers out there that are more upset at not getting to visit the local bars than worrying about their parents. Wrong. Amazon itself is not re-ordering/re-stocking any items that are non-essential or health-related. Blu-rays, book, games, furniture, electronics - nothing is being re-stocked until further notice. They need the extra shelf space to stock up on necessary health supplies. So if something is out of stock you wanted, don't hold your breath for it to come back into stock in the next few weeks.
I ordered something the other day and Prime shipping is taking 4-5 days because they're prioritizing health shipments. This is Amazon, not 3rd party sellers. |

It is 3rd party sellers.
https://www.businessinsider.com/coro...ehouses-2020-3 "Amazon told sellers and vendors on Tuesday that it was suspending shipments of all nonessential products to its warehouses to deal with the increased workloads following the coronavirus outbreak." "Amazon is now prioritizing medical supplies, household staples, and other high-demand products to its warehouses until April 5." "The change only affects shipments to Amazon's warehouses, not the last-mile deliveries to consumers." ""We are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers," the message read." "On Tuesday the company told sellers and vendors that it would accept only shipments of "household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products" to its warehouse until April 5 to deal with the high demand of those products amid the coronavirus crisis. That means sellers who use Amazon's storage and delivery network for a fixed fee, through a program called Fulfillment by Amazon, will no longer be able to ship nonessential products to Amazon. The same restrictions apply to vendors who wholesale their products to Amazon, who then resells them at a markup. It doesn't affect last-mile shipments of those products to consumers. Amazon said in an email to sellers that it was now prioritizing shipment in the following six categories: baby product; health and household (including personal-care appliances); beauty and personal care; grocery; industrial and scientific; pet supplies. "We are seeing increased online shopping, and as a result some products such as household staples and medical supplies are out of stock," the email obtained by Business Insider said. "With this in mind, we are temporarily prioritizing household staples, medical supplies, and other high-demand products coming into our fulfillment centers so that we can more quickly receive, restock, and deliver these products to customers."" |

Yeah if you can't hack it, don't think of yourself as weak for tuning it out. A lot of people no matter how mentally resilient we are having our own mental struggles adapting to the rapid changes away from the norm.
If you need to voice it we will listen. Kindness and compassion our the best cure we have right now. |

If you actually read the linked report, what it really says is the government is preparing for up to 18 months of uncertainty due to current lack of hard figures. It doesn't mean they know for a fact it will run 18 months. We just don't have enough info yet to know how this thing will play out, so it makes sense to prepare for the long-term. We should have been better prepared in the first place. This caught us completely off guard. What will affect us long-term is the financial fallout from all this. That being said, it could indeed be upwards of 18 months before we have a vaccine available to everyone. Or it could be sooner. There were articles today that an already-developed regular flu treatment is being tested in Japan on this virus and it seems to cut the duration of illness and length of time an infected person tests positive from 11 days down to 4, so they're aggressively testing this. They say it doesn't work great if you have a more serious case of it, but it you're not very ill, it has the potential to cut the infection time way down. So don't panic because of that article. I know the same basic headline is being reported elsewhere now too, but we all know clicks generate money so they are as dramatic as possible. We'll just have to see how it plays out and hope the warmer weather helps us out. |
