Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the first crop of UHD blu-ray players are also the first devices that are going to stream 4K YouTube as far as I know.

I generally can't get excited about anything streaming, because I have shitty internet.

nope. they all play youtube, but as far as I know none of them will play it in 4K.

They can stream youtube itself, yes, but most 4K TV youtube apps cap the output at 1080p for whatever reasons (older version of app, different codec etc).

My internet connection is medicore so I just always assumed it was possible but you need a super fast internet connection to even view 4K content through Youtube. I'm envious of people that have Google Fiber.

Oh, that you do, but - forgive my cheeky reply - just because a TV is 4K doesn't mean that its youtube app will magically output at 4K no matter how good your internet is.

No.

It's Bitstream Out from player to receiver or pre-amp with Dolby Atmos and maybe DTS: X decoding and rendering.

You would need to upgrade. And besides, you may have troubles with UHD media without everything being HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2 compliant. That might be reason enough to go shopping.

Ive watched quite a bit of 4k youtube. Some do look very compressed but quite a bit look top notch. It depends how the video was uploaded.

Indeed, my 4K TV YouTube app outputs at 720p. No VP9 codec

I understand that some 2015 models have the ability though.

I was considering getting a HDFury Integral to strip the HDCP 2.2, but I'd need another Darbee if I connected the 4K player direct to my projector (for 10-bit color). Still unknown on downscale quality so I'm not sure what to do but wait. Copy protection is preventing me from purchasing, $400, okay. Hundreds for gear to make it work, no thanks.

I won't buy a new projector or receiver for a couple years.

Darbee doesn't work with 4K sources, so you wouldn't need another one.

You keep saying this, nothing is listed anywhere that says you need HDMI 2.0 or HDCP2.2 for 4K players played on 1080p devices.

If anybody who actually knows about this please correct me if i'm wrong, but i would think the BDA would of mentioned this important aspect in their reports of 4K downconversion to 1080p displays.

yes, it's been said for a long time that playing into or through a device that does not have HDCP 2.2 will not stop the signal entirely, rather it will simply force the player only to output at 1080p.

HDMI 1.4 itself is fully capable of sending and receiving a 4K signal, as has been proven and evidenced by the numerous PC graphics cards on the market with HDMI 1.4 outputs that have been putting up 4K signals for several years now.
