The first titles in IMAX Enhanced are A Beautiful Planet and Journey to the South Pacific. These nature documentaries should look and sound great on TVs that offer the IMAX picture mode such as high-end Sony LCD and OLED TVs.

Given that those two bolded statements contradict each other, it looks like a huge mess.

It turns out that for the video side of things, "IMAX Enhanced" means "only HDR10+ and not Dolby Vision" - so quite a drop down in quality from where it could have been.

Typically it looks like no-one can get the full "IMAX Enhanced" experience (ie both video AND audio) at the same time.

i don't know or care which studio these titles come from, but they are scheduled for Dec 11th, so IF that happens, there will be 2 HDR10+ titles available before the end of they year. So the HDR10+ format will finally debut to the public on those two titles, after years and years of secret private demos.

Samsung never mentioned the Mill Creek releases. They specifically mentioned actual movies from WB and Fox. No one cares about these meaningless documentaries. I think the point still stands that neither Fox or Warner Bros will have HDR10+ product on the market in 2018. Big difference in my mind between a couple of documentaries and any major motion picture that Fox could have given us.

I have no inside info, but I suspect the door is closing on Fox and this HDR10+/Samsung deal because of the Disney buyout. Samsung appears to be coming up short on the software side of their alternative to Dolby Vision.

Until more companies like LG, Sony or Vizio show any interest in HDR10+ it doesn't make any sense to release a big movie in that format

With version 4.5.3, Grass Valley says that the Rio now provides faster, more flexible workflows to support Dolby Vision deliverables. With a Dolby CMU box, timeline trim passes can now be made across multiple display devices with all information stored in a single XML. All parameters can be controlled from the Neo panel with frame analysis choices that the company says results in faster workflows on projects with long timelines.

Grass Valley is also claiming near lossless rendering, introducing a new compression codec, based on VC-2, that enables Rio to run from 2:1 to 6:1 compressed to disk, in addition to its standard uncompressed mode. If compression is selected, and once media is compressed onto a disk, the codec is claimed to be virtually lossless across multiple renders, enabling users to store additional media at the same chosen compression ratios, increasing storage capacity by factor of 2-6 times.

Other features include additional support for BT.2020 Hybrid Log Gamma colour space and gamma curve to handle HDR and SDR in a single signal, while its Alchemist re-speed algorithm has also been updated to provide improved stability and results.

That's very harsh given that the BBC's "Planet Earth 2" is a stunning reference title. But I appreciate what you are saying.

That's not how HDR10+ works - think of it like a free invisible add-on to HDR10 which is just a box to tick in the authoring software. People could equally argue that it doesn't make sense not to release any title that was going to be HDR10-only in HDR10+, since it's such a tiny trivial thing from the authoring POV.

If it was dolby vision that's a whole different discussion, but for a HDR10-only release it's a simple change to produce.
