well Steed enjoyed the expertly presented HDMI data rates for 4K HDR. Perhaps TMI for others? No problemo, here ya go, a movie review…..

We will have the manual versions we have today and one designed for the Sync-One2, which is a cool little device.

Nanosys was kind enough to provide some vile(s) of Quantum Dot for us to shoot. Here is the video I think we are going to include in the montage.

We are going to measure the actual wavelengths tomorrow, but here is what Nanosys said: Wavelengths are (approximately): 434, 475, 522 & 633. Our goal is to make them as accurate as possible on screen to their actual color. Clark had shot them several times, but the video above is the money shot.
at one of their presentations in L.A. yesterday, Nanosys V.P. of R&D said they “believe we can soon achieve >90% BT.2020 color with our 100% cadmium free materials”.

Very exciting! Does that soon mean in the lab, and real products many years away do you think?

No on the record precise timeline offered for implementation with real products. Something else under the radar this week which I liked (as long as it’s proved safe to all living organisms)….https://www.qualcomm.com/news/releas...ity-over-60ghz

It would be really nice for those unable to attend some of these industry conferences if they all offered more live webcasts ŕ la Digital Hollywood….http://www.videodigitalhollywood.com...ayGuerinA.html

And they have yesterday’s sessions already archived and available for those to view if you scroll ahead a bit in case they don’t start immediately…..

Put four of those in your ceiling for some real Atmos-pheric shenanigans. Word on the street is PM should have his installed by the weekend. Memorial Day party at the PM mansion. I'll bring the chips.

not marketing,
not audio video reporters reporting on what some company has done, or is doing
not company marketers reporting/retweeting/facebook sharing, etc. what reporters have said about their or other company’s products, intentions, etc.

But something quite rare these days in the age of internet traffic – original work…..

Influence of Screen Size and Field of View on Perceived Brightness

‘We present a study into the perception of display brightness as related to the physical size and distance of the screen from the observer. Brightness perception is a complex topic, which is influenced by a number of lower and higher order factors - with empirical evidence from the cinema industry suggesting that display size may play a significant role. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a series of user studies exploring brightness perception for a range of displays and distances from the observer that span representative use scenarios. Our results suggest that retinal size is not sufficient to explain the range of discovered brightness variations, but is sufficient in combination with physical distance from the observer. The resulting model can be used as a step towards perceptually correcting image brightness perception based on target display parameters. This can be leveraged for energy management and the preservation of artistic intent. A pilot study suggests that adaptation luminance is an additional factor for the magnitude of the effect.’

^ too Dolby esoteric wrt brightness perception? Well believe me, that abstract is much less intellectually intimidating than for instance attending and absorbing in detail all the presentations at an ARVO meeting, esp. when it’s held in Hawaii with the added distraction of all its natural beauty. Nevertheless, be that as it may, again, no problemo , as out of courtesy to others’ feelings/interests we service as many tastes as possible -

Mist music listening (scroll down to the arrowed video - https://www.canon-europe.com/video-c...-the-eos-c200/ and kick back with your favorite beverage).

HDR MONITORS TESTING

Last month the EBU Videos Systems group organized an HDR monitors testing event (https://tech.ebu.ch/news/2018/05/ebu...t-hdr-monitors) hosted by RTS at the ‘Hacker Studio’.
The result will be summarized in a report this summer and used to update EBU Tech 3325 and to create new test patterns.

I was at a Big Screen store yesterday that only sold Samsung displays. They had the latest ones. I ask for a demonstration of HDR10+. He tried to show a demo of the HDR+ function. He had no idea what HDR10+ was.
