Well yes, if maybe you consider 1 in 10,000 to be good odds (situs inversus).

Interesting that for this ^ annual tech retreat in the desert is that one of the major Hollywood studios, (namely Sony Pictures’) choice of topic to address and offer their take on is “Ambient Light Compensation for HDR Presentation”.

It's o.k. , more importantly, what laymen (and women) who’ve ever gotten ill or injured and I’d suspect many doctors treating them, have learned about medicine….

What’s the state of HDR formats?
https://blog.harmonicinc.com/reality...r-deployments/

"Right now you have several choices when it comes to HDR formats: PQ10, Dolby Vision, HLG10, HDR10+ and SL-HDR1.

HDR10 now supported by all TV manufacturers so it’s pretty much the de facto standard.

Dolby Vision is popular too. It’s the second leading standard deployed in TVs and the definite frontrunner for delivering a premium VOD experience.

Coming in third for most deployed is HLG. HLG is backed by 50 percent of TV manufacturers and supports a handful of live services.

HDR10+ (ST 2094-40) has limited support, mainly because it’s only been ratified on the production side with SMPTE. It is being standardized for transmission by the ATSC and DVB. Today, only Samsung, Panasonic and TP Vision support this standard.

Additionally, Philips/Technicolor SL-HDR1 (with a BT 709 base layer) is standardized by the ATSC and its evolution, SL-HDR2 (with a PQ10 base layer), is now being proposed both in China and by the DVB."

WHY?! The last thing the world needs is yet another, brand new, HDR standard.

It's not really another "brand new" format, the P/T version has always revolved around either an SDR layer with HDR metadata or an HDR layer with SDR metadata - indeed, the latter is what would be deployed if it were to be used on UHD disc as it's been an optional format in the spec from day one. All the quoted bit is describing is the adoption of the latter for broadcast services e.g. DVB, and because the P/T version still uses the PQ function at its core then any HDR10 TV would be compatible with it (if fed by HDMI as broadcast standards are their own thing). Crisis over.

According to Area DVD, Samsung announces further alliances for support of HDR10+.
In addition to Samsung, Panasonic and Philips (TP Vision), HDR10+ will also be supported by TCL and Hisense already supporting Dolby Vision.

Note the "digital distribution" part from Warners. Will they actually put 10+ onto physical disc?

Well HDR10+ streams are ready now, for physical discs it will take a little more time I guess.

And many HDMI devices need a firmware update anyway for HDR10+

By "they" I mean Warners, not "they" in the general sense as it didn't stop Mill Creek from releasing content with 10+ on disc, nor Fox in the very near future, hence my questioning of the specific "digital distribution" wording when it comes to Warners' 100-strong 10+ catalogue that we will apparently see in 2019.

I'm just guessing: the press release says 100 titles EARLY next year for streaming...

I think even if Warner decides to put HDR10+ on disc they won't come until Q2 2019 at least. Maybe even Q3

For those wondering about the current status of HFR content delivery, the next frontier, into our homes (I’d suspect especially the sports-minded being most curious), well, there remain significant challenges, so it’s not imminent. To be more specific, the SDI interfacing is not practical, there is no p/120 nor p/100 timecode and it is currently not possible to properly monitor HFR signals as there are no HFR reference monitors readily available at this time.

It would not surprise me at all once all the ducks are eventually in a row that in order to save on bandwidth the broadcasters will initially offer 1080p/120(or 100) HDR images rather than 2160p/HFR/HDR, but don’t fret as that’s not as poor as some may think for if one uses UHD cameras the image quality can still be very good…..actually, arguably superior to 2160p/60 for sporting events.

Thinking back to the shades of summer - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post15182120

Nevertheless, I’m wondering in the minds of home video enthusiasts if this news further supports/reaffirms the notion of the value of dynamic metadata (over that of static metadata), or if some still maintain HDR10 is good enough for their viewing and display chain….if they can’t get or don’t need Dolby Vision.
