Default 'Jurassic Park: 3D' Re-Release: July 19, 2013

Quote:
‘Jurassic Park’ 3D Re-Release Set For Summer 2013

Briefly: Wasn’t it just months ago that Steven Spielberg seemed to have moved beyond the idea of tinkering with old movies? At a screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark last year, Spielberg said he regretted digitally altering E.T., and suggested that future home video releases of that and Raiders would be their original ’81 and ’82 versions.

But we’re still going to get a 3D version of Jurassic Park. The film was just dated for re-release today, and will hit theaters on July 19, 2013 according to Jeff Sneider of Variety. Spielberg did also say last year that the only one of his films he’s interested in post-converting to 3D is the original Jurassic Park. But at that point, it seemed like only an idea.

Granted, if done well, the experience could be a good one, but without seeing any footage there’s no way to tell at this point. We’ve got no info on when the first 3D footage might show up, but Comic Con is a safe guess.

I almost guarantee this is just them figuring out how marketable the series still is, since they've been mulling over the idea of a fourth. Should be interesting to see what happens, to say the least.

I wouldn't mind them touching up the CGI, pretty dated by today's standards.

I hope this isn't going to be at just one theater chain. We never seem to get re-releases in my neck of the woods.

Jurassic Park was one of the first movies that I remember going to as a kid. I was pretty obsessed with it. The toys were the best ever!

As much as I love the cast, I think they need to just reboot the franchise. I have absolutely no idea where they could go with part 4.

I saw Jurassic Park in cinema when it was re-released last year. I'm not fond of post-converting films into 3D, but can I pass up the opportunity to see the film on the big screen again? Probably not!

I'd see it. I also agree about updating the CGI, I don't have any kind of nostalgic attachment to blocky 3d dinosaurs personally. Don't get why it has to take them over a year to release it, but I guess Spielberg's a busy guy.

Yeah I think it'd be fun to see. I never mind filmmakers revising or altering their films provided the original theatrical versions are made available as well.

This is intresting. Definately not worth buying the new Centenial release of the first film next month, might as well wait for the 3D one to come out

I highly doubt Spielberg will update the effects. He's been very vocal about not being a fan of changing movies after they've come out, even saying his alterations to ET were a huge mistake. Could they update them? Absolutely. But I highly doubt it'll happen.

Some of the scenes if done right since the dinosaurs were all CGI could be very good. I am not a fan of post converted 3D but I really do enjoy this movie, so I will probably go see it again.

Jurassic Parks CGI still beats half the CGI we get in film now.

All I've ever wanted changed is for the big goof up to be fixed (T-Rex fence break / vehicle cliff scene). A CG jetpack system slapped onto T-Rex would work fine so you won't have to redo the whole landscape of the scene while having an explanation of how T-Rex got through a fence line on a ~50'-70'+ high cliff.... or you could add in a scene of T-Rex climbing trees to get to the fence...

I do love this movie, but won't be paying to see this in 3D.

I personally wouldn't mind a remake...one that more closely follows the novel and therefore is more gritty and violent.

I would be very interested in a well done Jurassic Park in 3D. Unfortunately, it seems like most post conversions are bad and older movies being converted don't have a great rep so far as far as I know. That Rex chase at night and the climactic Rex scene would both be amazing! Also, the "clever girl" moment would be great for a pop out effect.

No it doesn't all the CGI in the Jurassic Park movies have been beaten by leaps and bounds for years now. Just compare the CGI dinosaurs in Jurassic Park and King Kong

Last I remember Jurassic Park wasn't in 3D in 1993, either

At the very least I think they'd have to recomposite those shots, since they were rendered and recorded at, like, 1K resolution.

Completely disagree. The CGI looks like cheesy Sci-Fi quality material at this point. Keep in mind that many of the dinosaur scenes are not CGI as well and still look great, those I wouldn't change.
