LG's or any Youtube App can cause burn-in on an OLED TV, but the app must be running for 2 or more hrs per day for several days without much other content displayed during that period. For 2018 LG integrated the static image dimming algorithm which greatly reduces the possibly of burning in a static image. |

Another store, the TV sales people don't want to talk much about LG OLED burn-in issues, five salesmen! This is the truth, nothing invented. I know so, I was shopping for a C8. And when I shop with my money I shop seriously. @ both places I was recommended Samsung QLED. |

cnet had a good article on OLED image retention: https://www.cnet.com/news/oled-scree...-need-to-know/ One other issue to be concerned about is HDR on a OLED display which will increase the brightness level and possibly decrease the lifespan of an OLED display. https://www.techhive.com/article/323...r-oled-tv.html |

@LordoftheRings, No burn-in coverage for dealers in the USA.
I recommend the UK retailer Crampton and Moore. They are a well respected high-end retailer. Give them a call. Oops, thought you lived in the UK. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 07-08-2018 at 02:06 AM. |

@PaulGo, love CNET's article on OLED burn-in. It's 100% correct and accurate.
If you want all of the truth and nothing but the truth read CNET's OLED burn-in article. Thanks for posting it! |

Gents,
Please do not post here mocking or disparaging other A/V sites. Some of you have past histories at other sites and we ask that you please do not bring any grudges or negative perceptions you may have regarding those sites into this forum. Please keep discussions respectful to each other and Blu-ray.com. We are one community of HD home media fans and the internet is big enough for all of us without putting each other down. I was not the mod who removed the posts above, but on review it appears a couple of unrelated ones got caught in the purge. I have reinstated these. Have a great weekend, and thanks all of you for participating in the forums. Also, I'd like to extend a thank you to Mr. Zohn for the information and knowledge he provides to us here. Thanks for being a part of Blu-ray.com. |

Seems like the most burn in prone oled phones lately are the Galaxy S8/S9/note 8 lines because of the new navigation bar at the bottom.. My S8+ had nav bar burn in within 3-4 months. Have the S9+ now, the home button is now very very faintly burned in when I look for it on an all white screen. I am a very heavy user though. As far as relating overall burn in with this thread, the theories are that heavy hdr watching puts you at a higher risk of burn in and shorter life expectancy of the panel and can lose brightness over time. If you're someone who buys a new TV every 2-3 years you should be okay but if you want a 5-10 year TV you may have issues, especially with HDR becoming more available. |

HDR, Brightness, Burn-in, OLED, LED, QLED, MicroLED, all that jazz, ...with and without everything known to man so far ...
This is only a restricted article because it is old, because it is not the bible, because tests of burn-in in issues develop over time, because it's easy to read fudge on the Internet from various directions ... • https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-t...ed-vs-oled-tv/ HDR to perform @ its very best require ideal conditions and light and tech implementation and video processing, and reliability and durability and longevity. Some folks love LG OLED (me), other folks love Sony OLED (some pro video calibrators, me too), some folks love Samsung QLED (me), some folks love Sony LED (me), some folks love Samsung MicroLED (me), ...Panasonic OLED (Canada and EU), TLC, Vizio, ...nits & all Dolby lights on. TVs that were made five, three years ago, today and tomorrow with HDR and HDR10 and HDR10+, they come and go with various parameters of HDR performance. The hardcore fans from one and another display technology they have their clubs and they watch their TVs all over the world. Some are heavily biased by the pro video calibrators, others by the top video reviewers, and some by their top local video salesmen. We are affirmative on what HDR benefits, and we know that HDR is not all end to TV performance and best picture overall and longevity and the program material we love watching in day-to-day use...Blu-rays, 4K streaming, TV news, gaming, ... For example, I love 3D (Sony LED Z Series), I love 4K (all brands), I love Dolby (several brands), I love HDR (some brands more than others), I love OLED (LG, Panasonic, Sony), I love beautiful looking women (all over the world). I love freedom...Braveheart in 4K UHD HDR10 Dolby Vision Dolby Atmos. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 07-08-2018 at 05:58 AM. |

Whilst I understand reckless use can bring about the damage, I would not expect 'normal use' with an LG verified app to do this. If we are talking about variances in Panel quality, then LG should do the decent thing and honor the warranties and stand by their products ![]() |

![]() My point being that I simply don't use my main display for much "routine viewing". I'm not kidding. I watch very little 'day to day' TV stuff on said display, don't use the Internet features at all, I'm not a gamer either, it's movies movies movies. Example: I've worked my way through the five Mission Impossibles on UHD over the last week, which is the only action my TV has seen in that time, being turned on from cold to watch 2 hours of letterboxed HDR content and then 30+ minutes of comparing still frames between the BD and the UHD, and then it's turned off again. This is basically what I've been doing on my TV since getting it in May last year (though I didn't do any of those format comparisons on my plasma). Some people would say that I'd merely need to alternate my viewing between letterboxed and 1.78/1.85 content, and/or leave it on a 'screen wash' cycle with noise or whatever, but A) I don't like having my viewing choices dictated to me by the TV, nor do I like having it burning leccy when I'm not even watching it, and 2) I did all that alternating/screen washing/200 hours stuff with my plasma anyway and it still wasn't enough. Yes, a 2018 OLED is not a 2006 plasma but everything I've seen points to OLED still having this issue and I'm just not chancing it, I'm done babysitting my TVs. |
