It’s tough these days to be proud that one is an American (USA citizen), so an occasional comic may be thee only escapism for many of us from current events.

^ -> I’ll also reveal that since photosensitive epilepsy and Incredibes 2 was in the news today - https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/i...ilepsy-warning

and this is more along the lines of public service, at the last ITU meeting, the video study group (chaired by Scott from Dolby) decided on a revision plan to change/clarify some of the statements in Rec. ITU-R BT.1702 - https://www.itu.int/dms_pubrec/itu-r...2-I!!PDF-E.pdf
I should add that the BBC contributed to this upcoming ^ revision and the info has been provided to the World Health Organization.

For those who have developed further interest in the sport of football/soccer thru their HDR World Cup viewing rather than only being technocrats to the quality of the feed they’re receiving at home, no matter what the content, be it soccer or were it watching grass growing in HDR, might I recommend a movie (although not in HDR) which is also a moving human interest story. To be aired this Saturday afternoon, Nossa Chape - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7983678/

*The Brazilian team has two incentives to win World Cup 2018. To make amends for their poor showing at the last World Cup and to honor the memory of the the Chapecoense football club.

And of course we can do that too , so, food for thought - perhaps for the next World Cup in 2022, rows 2 and 3 would provide even a superior image quality? (esp. for those who have seen sport at 100/120fps )

Default Disney raises its bid for Fox’s entertainment businesses to $71.3 billion, days after

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...&noredirect=on
Quote:
In December, Disney had offered $52.4 billion in stock for the bulk of Fox assets, before Comcast swooped in with an all-cash offer for $65 billion last week.

On Wednesday, Disney said its offer was for a mix of cash and stock and would allow shareholders to choose which they preferred. The company said it would pay $35.7 billion in cash and issue roughly 343 million new shares to 21st Century Fox shareholders. Disney will also assume about $13.8 billion of net debt of 21st Century Fox.
I will use the flimsy excuse to post here that is will affect Fox’s decision on DoVi vs HDR10+.

Well there's the football World Cup, I suppose.

Can the cognoscenti advise me on a HDR-related, or calibration-related, T-shirt purchase? Do such items exist for us geeks to buy?
Ideally from Europe if possible...

Let's hope that Sony and LG add HDR10+ decoding to their TVs and BD players. Hopefully that will be the olive branch for Samsung to include Dolby Vision to their HDR line up. We need all UHD/HDR TVs and DAV products to be Universal devices!

^ Sometimes I may get a little too technically advanced in referencing subjects related to vision (DMEK, DSEK, ganglion cells in the retina, etc.), so for those needing a bit more of the basics, I’m told there was a good crash course in vision offered at this year’s fine CVPR2018 conference….. http://cvpr2018.thecvf.com/program/tutorials. See the slides from Borji from the 9:00 - 9:45 Light and image formation on the retina, which are excellent.

Just the opposite. It will make Samsung dig in more.

Only overwhelming support will drive Samsung to accept something that everyone else has.

Thanks Penton-Man!

At our 2018 TV Shootout we're planning to have an ophthalmologist that specializes in how the human visual system works and see so we can discuss how close we are with BT.2020, HDR, EOTF and 10bit displays.

I’m aware of small stickers (like for one’s laptop) which are available from a seller on ebay that read something like “4K HDR with Dolby Vision”. if that whets your appetite as substitute for a T-shirt.
