The acting was not great and sometimes awful but the movie is successful at making you feel uncomfortable and not happy. It is not a feel-good movie. I think the way it was put together was intentional in order to elicit an emotional response. I don't think it intends to portray the American public and shallow but more how it is perceived by retuning soldiers.

PTSD is a real problem. The homelessness and suicide rates among veterans is extremely high. If we have to send them to war, we should also have to take care of them when they get back.

Oddly enough, as much as I don't like this movie, I am hugely conflicted on whether to keep it.
PTSD is a real problem, but I think here it is still taken to a whole other level for dramatic purposes.
Are all cops crooks? Are all super models bulimic/anorexic? Are all politicians the way we see them depicted in House of Cards, willing to throw a civilian under a train to p[rotect their carreer?
I've never been a soldier. Never been to war. But I suspect most soldiers who watch this difficult, content-laden film will find things they relate to … and some perspectives that don't represent their experiences at all.

ON my OPPO to my oled e6 i was able to get it to output as UHD 30P and even 1080p60. As said this is not because of a mix, but being done by the player

Would you be able to play this on a CRT tv with OPPO or Samsung player?

In this movie all of them are depicted as "damaged goods". I think that is not how it works in real life. I'm not a soldier but I know a few who have been stationed overseas and they are not all damaged goods or unable to get reintegrated into society...In fact some of them thrive and actually do better than most of us

One of the fewer cases where UHD is better than 3D

If future titles can obtain picture quality like this, I will no longer buy 3D. The picture was so "life like" it had a better 3D effect IMO...

Agree, and 60fps also contributed greatly to make picture so "life like"

Did you try the 3D version?

Honestly, I was enthralled by the 60FPS but then I put in the 3D disc and liked it even better.

Sure, my wider point is that there isn't some kind of disc-generated <60p option programmed in. 1080p60 isn't a surprise, the player's keeping the frame rate and just downscaling the resolution. As for 2160p30, my Panny has an option whereby it can force 24/25p onto a 50/60Hz signal but it doesn't work with Billy Lynn's.

I also liked the 3d version better, it had some good depth and colors.

I agree that the movie is not very good... but if you want to show someone what this format is capable of there is no better way. It blows Revenant out of the water picture wise. I also love anything without letterbox that takes full advantage of the 78" js9500.

My days of buying films just to show other people are well gone. I'm sure something will come along soon that replaces this film as demo material but also happens to be a bloody good film. I am still waiting for this decades absolute classic war film. I mean, up there with a platoon, Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse now, Saving Private Ryan etc.

The Revenant comes to mind as a good demo movie that is also,IMO, a really good movie. Mad Max Fury Road is a better movie but the transfer is not quite at
The Revenant level. Maybe even The Martian, but again, great movie but not quite the A+ level PQ.

What people like about this title is the high frame rate, very few movies have been filmed in HFR.

I am still debating but I am probably going to get rid of this. Ugh.

Doesn't stop me from demoing Mad Max. This and Pacific Rim are my go to demo discs for showing off glorious HDR, and maybe Kingsman, depends which one's closer to my hand when selecting the movie.
