I like Ang Lee's movies for the most part. His name is why I blindly bought the movie.

But let's not act like it's​ not a high budget low rent dumpster fire.

If you like it, that's obviously ok. Most agree that it's really bad.

I like its realism. It feels like a breath of freah air in an overly CGed, 24fps movie-making world

Just some of the dialog felt forced, the cheer leader especially.
For some reason I couldn't connect with the characters, every moment felt somewhat unnatural to me.

I like to study the movie. It's like a science project, this experimentation he does with the framerate.

Without 3D (worth watching to see how Lee uses depth to frame a scene, the shots make a lot more sense in 3D) or without HFR though, this movie is unwatchable. I still admire how he's trying to see how technology affects storytelling, it's just a shame the Oscar-winning director couldn't get a decent script for this project.

Kind of a strange decision to take a satire and try to depict it with stunning realism. The world and the comedy should make everything feel surreal, but then the high frame rate makes it all feel as real as watching live sports, and you become a bit too aware that these are actors reading lines, the dialogue isn't natural at all.

But the actual halftime show scene with the war scene inside is pretty effective. It's just a shame we have to sit through an hour of empty drama and romance to reach it.

Without HDR/HFR this movie is garbage. Cant argue with that.

I thought the scene with the cheerleader seducing him in the back was so bad that it makes you guess the authenticity of the entire message of the movie in its entirety. You stop caring about the characters quickly.

It is almost like-ok, Ang Lee wants to take us on a serious journey about the realities of war but then he goes off on these far fetched situations that make us question the real intent of the film

Is it possible to watch this in HFR on a 1080p TV if I had access to an Xbox One S? I know HDMI 1.3 can pass 1080p60 but I'm not up to speed on DRM with 4K discs and all that. I couldn't find info on if its even possible to downscale 4K discs to a lower res for older displays. I'm sure there wouldn't be much of a point most of the time but in this case even with the loss of resolution I'd love to experience HFR and my Panny plasma, while limited to 1080p, is the nicest TV I have access to.
