Compared to the US's obesity problems? It's definitely not as bad there. Smoking is definitely more prevalent there, though younger generations don't smoke as much as the older ones.

I would think smoking ranks right up there as a contributing cause of death from covid 19. Especially in those with many years of smoking under their belt. Now would be a great time to quit.

Sorry I don't think the best thing is a stay at home order. People need to get outside to get some fresh air and exercise. Just being outside in the sun boosts your immune system and the risk of getting contaminating in an open air environment is hundreds times lower than getting it at the grocery store or other closed environment outside of home. I agree though shutting bars and gyms is a good idea.

We need to get the N95 masks available and have it mandatory to wear in stores and other indoor places (outside not necessary unless you are sick and coughing/sneezing). That alone will go far at slowing the spread.

Just out of curiosity but how is him getting exercise and fresh air putting his health or your mother's health in danger? Golf isn't a crowd sport, I assume he owns his own equipment so it's not like he's sharing anything. Shutting yourself in, regardless of age isn't any better than going out in public.

I have to fly to get to work so had no choice today.
The airport was the emptiest that I’ve ever seen it in my lifetime. I waited in line for a coffee longer than it took me to get through security. That is highly unusual. There was 12 people on my plane which is rated for 85.
It was almost like being in that movie, I Am Legend.

Tomorrow I have to fly again and my temperature will be taken before I’m able to board. If it’s high, they won’t let me get on.

In Italy the youngest to die was in their fifties and had health issues prior to contracting the virus.
You know we have had 100k cases and I haven't seen any papers that make a correlation to smoking leading to a higher mortality rate. They found correlations with age, diabetes, obesity and heart problems but they haven't found one for smoking. I cant imagine people aren't looking for one though as people would love to nail this on smoking and totally ease the panic.

I mean its like one of the 5 things all the doctors are going to ask when they do a exam. If they haven't found a correlation with smoking yet I don't think much of one is going to exist.

My grandparents are both over 70, and they have custody of their grandchild (mom who was my sister died in 2016, father is deadbeat ******** who does not pay child support).
I am beyond pissed right at the moment, her case walker just visited UNANNOUNCED (no phone call, just shows up at our door), and my elderly father just let her come in for a chat.
SHE SHOULD BE FIRED!

Look at the data in China. Particularly older Chinese men who smoke. Years of lung damage adds fuel to the fire.

Yes, some people are in full-blown panic mode, no doubt about it. As for myself, I can worry without going into a total freak out panic, & I can worry without getting all stressed out & overanxious. I can remain calm & vigilant & do my best to follow the guidelines to help interrupt transmission & avoid contracting COVID-19 & spreading it to others. I still have to go out & get things done & even if I take all possible precautions I can still get it & spread it. What I'm not going to do is mentally let my guard down with the "not worry about it" mentality. For those that are incapable of worrying without freaking out, well, I don't know what to tell you.

He shares a golf cart with a stranger. The CDC recommends you stay at least 3 feet away, but he sits inches away from someone else in the cart. Golf is typically played in foursomes, with a cart holding two people, so each group takes out two carts. Golf carts are also rented, and I doubt they get wiped down between uses.

NYC is kind of swamped as far as ordering groceries online. I've only been going to local markets which don't have a lot of people there at a time.
