Someone mentioned just recently to "not worry because 98% of you will survive".
..."Not too many people here over 65".

Who are the other 2%, our Dads and Moms, our grandparents, our best friends with heart and lung respiratory issues, asthmatics, etc.?
I'm worry not only about them but me too. The 98% that will survive I'm certain they are worry too about that 2% who we love so much.

I think it's normal to all to be worry in a pandemic, it's human nature...it strikes everywhere and right @ home in our families and friends.
Agreed the fact that my loved ones and those that I care about get it from me or someone else scares the s*** out of me the most and causes the most worry/anxiety above all.

Stay safe everyone...I care and love you all despite having never met you or known you personally. I could never nor want to wish this on anyone, no matter who you are, or what you have done in life...i am not your maker, judge or executioner.

Dunno if anyone's seen this but it's indeed a very hard watch.

‘People Are Dying’: 72 Hours Inside a N.Y.C. Hospital Battling Coronavirus

https://www.nytimes.com/video/nyregi...al-queens.html

If you're even remotely on edge about this whole thing, don't watch it. It's not going to help. For those who want to see what it's like in an ER right now and stay informed about the state of our healthcare industry (and, more importantly, workers), check it out.

I find it amazing how people here are like, relax! And then go on about how crazy I am for overreacting and then people post crap like the following....

If you guys don't want me freaking out or getting dramatic about the whole thing, then you guys aren't doing a very good job.

If you missed the part where I explicitly said "If you're even remotely on edge about this whole thing, don't watch it. It's not going to help." then that's no one's fault but your own.

We're all adults here. We should ALL understand what our tolerance levels are. If you can't stand to see this stuff, don't go online.

You said you lived here your entire life. After 9/11, did you watch TV all the time? Did you want to know everything that was going on? Cuz I couldn't take it. This feels VERY similar for myself and many, many other New Yorkers. We should be responding to it similarly.

Thanks for the link. I saw most (not all) of this & it's definitely scary. However, it just illustrates what we already know: What's the point of going to the doctor/hospital even if you're sure you have the illness?! They can't do anything for you anyway, and you'll just be infecting others. And, you may get even sicker due to being around other sick people.

And, if you're not sure if you have the illness, I don't see the benefit of going to the doctor's office/hospital either - because you're going to expose yourself & expose others to this - which is just going to make the whole pandemic worse.

That's the thing. They are predicting that at least half of NYers are going to become infected with the virus. That's quite a lot and I believe it too due to the rapid increase in confirmed cases each day. Cases are literally doubling every 2-3 days.

NY is in bad shape and that's why I'm in panic mode. I literally think that if I were to take a walk outside, I will end up passing by a number of infected people. That's how bad I believe it is over here. Thank God I live in Queens and not Manhattan, but it's still bad tho.

Yes I understand why you posted it. But why post if when all of you guys were telling me I'm freaking out over nothing? It's like, one minute, all of you are like, relax, calm down. And then the next minute, you guys are like, look at this article. This virus is bad!

Make up you mind. Is this virus a big deal or not??

This is a pandemic we don't really have any hope of properly treating until they develop a vaccine. It's highly contagious and it kills people quickly. It's a huge deal and I think it's going to fundamentally alter the lives of Generation X, the milleninals and Generation Z forever.

Ok, I just realized why confirmed cases are increasing so rapidly in NY and it's just what I suspected... people aren't doing what they're supposed to do.

https://gothamist.com/arts-entertain...R45uw2ROku8qpo

All people have to do is sit at home and watch Netflix. Not that hard, yet people can't do it.

I'm certainly not saying that it's not a big deal.

But, from your frequent posts here, you're not mentally equipped to handle all of this and it would probably be best (as has been suggested multiple times) that you step away from this particular thread and the news for a while.

Look - I get it. I suffer from SEVERE anxiety and, because of it, depression as well. This ain't a great time for me either. But I know what I can and cannot handle. They've actually set up a phone number in NYC - it's absolutely free and they have volunteer therapists there to talk to people. The hotline phone number is 1-844-863-9314. It wouldn't be a bad idea for you to give them a call.

We're gonna get through this. Not everyone is going to die.
But no one knows how long it's going to go on and no one knows how many people are going to get sick and eventually die. We're at the epicenter of this entire thing in the United States so, as the Gov. said, we're the test case. You gotta pull it together, man.

Freaking out on some internet board changes nothing in your world or ours.

Thanks. I just would feel better if the number of cases weren't going up so damn rapidly. This is only happening in NY and that's why it's making me freak out. Other states have it bad too, but none of them compare to NY.

France and Spain are taking it in the teeth and Italy's still pretty bad.

At the rate it's going, NY will surpass France and Spain by the next week or two. In fact, we're already almost there.

NYC is the most population dense city in the US which contributes to those numbers. Part of the reason why they keep going up so fast, to use your words, is that people were already sick and there is increased testing to confirm that. My recommendation is to stay calm and not work yourself up over this.

NY state has already surpassed the number of confirmed cases compared to France, but not nearly the number of deaths.

Listen, New Yorkers brag about our city not being like anywhere else. You gotta take the good with the bad on that statement. It's a "go big or go home" kinda place and we're certainly going big on this.

As has been stated ad nauseam at this point, we're testing more people than anywhere else so we're going to have more positives. We also have more people living here so there's more people to get it. That's just simple math.

Don't let math freak you out. Go to sleep and I guarantee you that when you wake up tomorrow, that number is going to be higher. Expect it every single day until there's a reason not to.

Your really low balling it for quite a few reasons since corona virus will infect more and overload hospitals. honestly lets lowball it like crazy put its morality rate at just 1% and just 50% catch it with 7.6 billion in the world then 38 million will die. Its honestly likely to be quite a bit worse but they don't want us to panic.

If the goverments actually thought only 500k or 1mil would die they would not be shutting down(the level of shutdown across the world will probably kill like 1 million people by itself by putting the world into a recession). They are shutting down because whenever they try to ignore it the morality rate shoots up because of overwhelmed hospitals.

NY has it bad & people keep failing or not wanting too follow the social distancing rules. I go out once a week now for supplies but I think im going to change that to once every 2 weeks soon. I have a wife & 4 month old son, im not trying to get them sick because people in the city just don't seem to get it. Cant wait to move out of here when I can.

Yeah so many people who won't isolate and don't seem to understand 6 feet means 6 feet. I can actually see it getting to the point eventually we're not even allowed to go into supermarkets anymore. Not sure how that would work but it's one of the last places idiots can go to infect other people because they can't stay the mandated distance away.

It's going to take much longer in the US. Trump is right, at some point you're going to have to get the economy going again, and death toll be damned.
Looking at the numbers though, here is an interesting observation, as of 1/21 China only had 548 reported cases which steadily grew until it flattened the curve roughly a month later.

Thus, did it really take them 3 months to get a handle on it, or are their reported numbers not accurate, or did they get a handle on it within a months time?
