Tearful WHO director calls for global unity to fight the virus following U.S. pullout

With tears in his eyes, Tedros said the true enemy was not the virus itself but "the lack of leadership and solidarity at the global level and national levels."

"How difficult is it for humans to unite to fight a common enemy that's killing people indiscriminately?" he asked at a briefing in Geneva. "Can't we understand that the divisions or the cracks between us actually are to the advantage of the virus?"

In March, a wave was authorized of $1,200 direct payments for individuals earning up to $75,000 a year, and the size of the check gradually diminished until it phased out entirely for those making above $99,000 annually.

He should be asking questions about how hard it is to not tell the world this couldn't be spread through human contact. Or how hard it is to not advise countries to keep travel open to impacted countries. Or how hard the many other things he has failed with were to not fail with. The US has handled it poorly but nobody has handled it as poorly as WHO so who is he to judge?

They catch is that the Senate won't seem to do anything about it. Last I heard, McConnell wants the checks to be for people making under $40K a year. I was way over that having two jobs then.

But then I cant say I need anything more. I just used the first one to pay off 2 credit cards, paid off 2 others just by not doing anything.

My job did say today we get our full bonus, as there was some concern they might be cutting back, but besides a slower week when this thing first hit, we've been slammed ever since.

But if the Senate decides to give me my tax dollars back to me, again, who am I to say no?

I think the majority of his tears are from his own mistakes, WHO's own disorganization.
Mistakes of that sort are tearful.

Now the world is crying too. There is no joy on COVID-19, because the countries that are doing better are vulnerable from the countries that aren't. There is no win-win situation here; unfortunately it's what it is.

All the people I talked to in my surrounding community they don't want our borders open to Americans, they are sad to hear that some of them entered illegally and without quarantining, very sad and worried. Some were fined in Ontario, others were arrested in Alberta, some were spotted in British Columbia only two hours from where I live (Texas and California plates).

Anywho, tremendously sad from some inconsiderate US citizens. They don't use all their brain these ones. And they're no kids, but adults.

The governor of NM today has one again made in-store dining a no-no. This is a step backwards for restaurants here in NM. And state parks are only open to NM residents. You must show proof prior to be allowed in. Both orders take affect July 13.

He has never accepted blame for his mistakes and constantly tries to pass the blame off on others so he isn't sad at all about what he has done (And what he should be held criminally responsible for when this blows over). He is an awful person so his fake tears are just trying to make the US look bad while WHO try to play the victim. He was backed by China when he ran for WHO director and has been in their pocket ever since. That has been increasingly evident through this whole thing. Especially when he started accusing Taiwan of being behind death threats and racism toward him at the same time China were fighting against them being included in WHO discussions when the US, Canada and other countries started pushing for their inclusion due to their success containing this.

But yeah the Alaska loophole is annoying. There is a ferry from Washington to Alaska so not like it is mandatory to cut through Canada. At least restrict it to people with Alaskan plates and not allow Texans or Californians claiming they are on their way to Alaska through

Yeah, the death numbers as expected are starting to rise too, as it's been 3 weeks since cases started to explode, and deaths are finally occurring from this initial rise in cases 3 weeks ago.

Everything looks grim, and I can only pin my hopes that the approximate 6 week timeline in case surges that occurred earlier in NY and elsewhere, hold true in the South and West as well. If so, we would see cases come down again in early August.

My theory (and others) is that the dense, high risk neighborhoods, reach herd immunity relatively quickly. So after they burn out, cases drop drastically overall, since most cases are among the poor who can't social distance in neighborhoods and homes (where people from different families share an apartment. Furthermore, since they also tend to work in the highest risk jobs, they stop spreading to others outside their neighborhood.

Some neighborhoods in New York already have very high levels of antibodies, which would lend credence to that theory.

The difference is that NY locked down and practically forced masks. If you're not going to do that, you're not going to get control of it.

You can't do nothing and hope it will just magically go away.

Bruce I wish you were an expert epidemiologist, so that I could put more weight to your theory.
This COVID-19 is just too new and unknown to expert scientists; we are learning new stuff every day as they are making new discoveries themselves.
And the ones who survive, among the people who got infected, several are in not so great shape inside (or early or later) on the long run. Antibodies and herd immunity are two terms with brand new applications and ramifications here, natural or not.

I looked @ the data accumulated so far, and @ what worked and what doesn't.
It's the best I can go by.

I think we all know what works best; wearing masks, self-distancing, complete lockdowns when there are outbreaks, sanitizing, extreme vigilance in working areas, playing areas, public areas.

Me I think it's better to sacrifice part of our economy in order to slow down this extremely virulent virus. ...It spreads easily, fast and it impacts the human body mercilessly.
Many survivors know that, and us too we know that from their testimonies and the testimonies of many nurses and doctors across the four corners of the globe, including right here in our own backyards.

I let the scientist experts telling us their best recommendations. The rest is up to us and to us only to follow those recommendations and nobody else. It's our lives in play, not the lives of who say otherwise. My opinion ...

My mom went to the store and purchased several bottles of sanitizer. Not only were they price gouging (she paid $40 for only a few bottles), they're also on the list as being harmful.

Thankfully, the grocery store took them back before anyone in the family used them.
