I like the new social distancing rules at Walmart, now time will tell if they will be enforced. Every time in the last 3 weeks I've gone it's been packed with no people practicing social distancing at all.

Just talking on the subject of lockdowns. Ireland, my own country, cannot really go into a full lockdown because it's own police force & army is not big enough to support work like food deliveries to people around the country because there's numbers are too small. It does however have priority from our government to deliver PPE's to healthcare facilities right around the country.

The police in Ireland are prioritised to investigate serious crimes right across the country. It had recruited 300 new police officers to help with numbers in investigating serious crime along with going out on regular patrols to check people's compliance with staying at home along with adhering to the social distancing guidelines. The college that is used to train the Gardai has been turned into a medical facility for people suffering from Coronavirus. Any person who does not comply with the guidelines are detained by police to be arrested & taken to court for future sentencing at a later date.

Food shortages are not really an issue here because Ireland is currently one of the biggest food producers in the world. Our food supply chains are not that badly affected when compared to other countries that do not have good supply chains. It was actually reported in the media late last year when discussing things like Brexit. Priti Patel MP had accused Ireland by saying that it would go into food shortages when the UK goes into a 'no-deal' Brexit scenario. The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, went on the Late Late Show last year, to dismiss that claim from Ms Patel.

Ireland's overall death rate from Coronavirus has also hit 3 figures for the very 1st time today with 120 deaths which is an increase of 22 cases. It also had a huge escalation of new cases from today's media briefing from the Department of Health with 424 new cases. This map here shows the extent of the spread of the virus in Ireland up until midnight on the 1st of April. Dublin has the highest amount of cases in the country with 2,077 cases. It also run into problems with obtaining PPE's from China which was shipped to Ireland under Garda & army escort last Sunday. Some of the gowns that were delivered from China were not giving full protection to Ireland's healthcare staff & along in the National Ambulance Service.

The Department of Health put up a new website for companies to supply new PPE's for it's healthcare system. The website is here.

Pink reveals coronavirus diagnosis, donates $1M to relief funds

Quote:
“In an effort to support the healthcare professionals who are battling on the frontlines every day, I am donating $500,000 to the Temple University Hospital Emergency Fund in Philadelphia in honor of my mother, Judy Moore, who worked there for 18 years in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Transplant Center.

“Additionally, I am donating $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund.”
That woman is such a class act.

I'm due for a trek to Walmart today to pick up a copy of the Rise of Skywalker 4K Walmart exclusive, which is a thing of beauty. I debated skipping the whole thing because I know it'll be a madhouse but I can't let myself be completely taken down by all the doom and gloom. Gotta indulge my favorite pastime and, at the same time, grab any "essentials" I might come across, like Dial foaming hand soap. I don't drive so I'll have to Uber my way there. Thankfully I have a box of gloves and a couple of masks so I should be somewhat protected. Riding in cabs really isn't a good idea these days but, it is what it is. Speaking of masks, I'm NOT walking around with a bandanna tied to the lower half of my face. I'm sorry, gotta draw a line somewhere. I'll keep re-using the masks I have now for the time being.

COVID-19 brings massive change to retail: Stores require fewer customers, kids, hours; more face masks

Quote:
As the nation continues to grapple with the growing coronavirus crisis, retailers including Walmart, Target and Costco are limiting how many shoppers can enter stores to encourage social distancing.

Some retailers are taking limits even further. Wisconsin-based Menards will no longer allow children under 16 to be in any of its stores due to the COVID-pandemic, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported Friday.

It really grates me the lack of awareness people have. I'm not someone that buys into the whole notion of blanketing everyone as dumb. People all have mental strengths and weaknesses.

But yep, a large majority of the human population I'd say have terrible awareness of their surroundings.
