Yup, I'm exactly the same.

I work freelance in television which means I usually work in 2 -3 month blocks trapped in a tiny room with some of the most horrible people on earth and I NEED to have a break before I have to get back to it again. That down time is always spent with the curtains drawn for weeks and the projector fired up non stop.

I've just had 2 years of non stop work with very few breaks and after the last job I had with probably the most despicable bunch I've ever had the misfortune of working with, I decided to take a few months off and recover...then all this shite happened!

I KNEW this was coming, but everyone else was stubborn and didn't think it was going to happen. This is why people take it as a joke, don't stay at home and go out. Now we're lucky if this crisis completely ends by the end of the year.

It's amazing how I look outside my window and still see numerous people strolling outside. Oy vey!
You seem to have a misunderstanding as this wasn't going to peak in just one week... it will takes weeks.

We are ALL going to be asked to make sacrifices in the coming weeks. What was normal is no longer. The faster you realize this, the better equipped you will be to make those sacrifices.

We haven't seen anything like the COVID-19 pandemic since the 1918 Spanish Flu and no one is alive today who went through that. Our population at the time was just over 100M and 675,000 Americans died. We are now a country of 327M. We do not want a repeat of those statistics. There is only one way to beat a pandemic without a vaccine: Shelter-In-Place. You have to stop human contact. Right now it's voluntary. Don't be surprised if after the death toll goes past 50,000 that S-I-P becomes a mandatory quarantine. That means NO ONE other than first responders can leave their home for ANY reason unless it's a medical emergency.

Pandemics don't last for a few months. They go for a year or more especially those with no anti-viralants or vaccine. Every country (S. Korea & China) that first closed, flattened their curve then reopened has seen a 2nd wave of infections.

I'm not trying to scare anyone nor am I the prophet of Doom. I am just trying to get you to understand the severity of the situation and what it takes to beat this.

Every time you step out of your home you run the risk of becoming infected. Droplets of CV-19 can be carried by the wind for miles. Someone who is already infected and hasn't shown any symptoms is walking 2 miles away, they sneeze and don't cover their face, the droplets are now in the wind. And the wind is headed right for you on your lonely walk at night! And unless you are wearing a fitted N95 mask, you are in danger of becoming infected.

It's going to be in the mid 70s all week here in ABQ, NM. I have a small covered porch right off my bedroom. I would love to go out on it and get some fresh air. But I won't because I value my life more than my desire for such. I hope you do the same.

Enclosed areas (outside the home) is where the real danger lies.
no it does not.

1) Chinese and Malaysians tend to wear masks and they both show up in the red

2) SK wear masks and it is lof but if you look at their curve it has flattened down because of all the measures taken there if you look early on (before it flattened ) it was high and they would have been wearing masks.

3) you could find any number of stereotypes and apply them the same way red tend to be bread and meat eaters while blue tends to be more rice and seafood....

4) honestly the biggest difference IMHO is one of (forced or not) social duty and gouvernment acceptance that does not exist in most of the people in most of the countries looped in red.

When Quebec decided close senior residences from visits the news were full of well intentioned idiots that just wanted to visit their family members in them, last time there was an update it was in over 400 residences. We all saw those stupid spring breakers, I am sure the news here is not the only one that shows people hanging around in parks or people complaining when they get fined for congregating...

Not sure if it has been mentioned here yet but I barely found out about this.

"RESIDENTS IN LAREDO, Texas, who do not cover their mouth and nose with a mask or other make-shift device could face a $1,000 fine"

Think it's the only place doing this atm.

South Korea's return to normal interrupted by uptick in coronavirus cases

Quote:
South Korea has been held up as a paragon for containing the coronavirus, lauded by the world for successfully flattening its curve, it is now bracing for a possible second wave.

But two worlds have emerged in South Korea. In one, everyday life resembles something closer to normal: There are lines outside restaurants during lunchtime; streets are busier; some wear masks and some do not.

The other world, however, keeps its eye firmly on the slight daily uptick in the country's number of cases.

Despite methods like early testing and digital tracing, South Korea is bracing itself for a second wave of infection. The government recently pushed back the new school year, opting for April 6 as the start date. Despite efforts to protect children from being infected with the coronavirus, over 83 percent of South Korea's hagwons — cutthroat test prep centers for students — remain open.

With many parts of the world wondering what a slow return to normal life will look like, South Korea's situation offers a warning: The curve doesn't necessarily stay flat.

ANTI-PARASITE DRUG USED SINCE 1980S MAY HELP STOP CORONAVIRUS, NEW STUDY SAYS

Quote:
Australian researchers have published a study showing a drug commonly used to treat parasite infections can also kill coronavirus in a laboratory setting in under 48 hours.

Researchers at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia have discovered that the antiparasitic drug Ivermectin can inhibit replication of SARS-CoV-2, the virus the causes COVID-19, according to a study published Friday in the journal Antiviral Research.

"Ivermectin is very widely used and seen as a safe drug. We need to figure out now whether the dosage you can use it at in humans will be effective—that's the next step," said the study's leader Dr. Kylie Wagstaff in a statement.

"We found that even a single dose could essentially remove all viral RNA by 48 hours and that even at 24 hours there was a really significant reduction in it," she added.

The exact manner in which the drug is able to kill the virus is not yet known, although Wagstaff said it was likely done by "dampening down" the ability of host cells to clear the drug.

Ivermectin has been widely used since the 1980s to treat head lice, scabies and several other infections caused by parasites. The drug is also used to treat the skin condition rosacea.

Research was carried out on cell cultures in the lab, which does not always translate to effectiveness in people who have contracted an infection. Ivermectin has been effective against a wide range of viruses when studied in vitro. Further research will be needed to determine whether the drug could be used to treat COVID-19.

I completely get it. I did the whole ‘going clubbing’ thing when I was younger because I thought people would think I was odd if I didn’t. Then I hit 27-28 and stopped caring about what people think. The problem was, going against my grain in such a big way took it out of me so much mentally. If only I was stronger when I was younger and accepted who I was.

Two years work non stop must have been draining for you, take care of yourself.

Hopefully the people making the masks aren't sick and that the supplies are older than the recent outbreak.

Actually no - the death rate would go down. less people getting infected. And prior to a mandatory quarantine you will be given a chance to stock up on groceries, like you were supposed to have already done.
