100,000 people have now died worldwide from Covid-19.

The UK death toll has also seen it biggest daily increase in deaths with 980 people who have died of the virus today.

it does not attack red blood cells, it attacks your respiratory system. If you are "lucky" it only ends up in your upper respiratory track (aka nose/mouth/throat) and where it is gets inflamed and partially blocks the air ways, if you are unlucky it makes it to your lower respiratory track (aka lungs) and then it is called a pneumonia and parts of your lung (where they are infected) stop doing their job.

Well I am officially laid off effective next week. Has anyone that’s applied for unemployment been able to apply proactively? Like could I apply now and put in a figure effective date? I haven’t been on unemployment in years so I don’t really remember the process.

I'm confused by this. Is an overactive immune system be characteristic with someone with high or low immunity? (or is there no correlation?).

I did not say hypertension makes it meaningless, and ,let's be honest, if your respiratory system is doing a crappy job bringing in oxygen and spewing out carbon dioxide your circulatory system will need to work harder to bring oxygen to your body (and elevate your blood pressure)... so I am not mocking that such people should take care

I am saying the list is so large that it is meaningless and nearly 50% of people have high blood pressure nearly 50% of people are obese in the US....
so people should not look at it and say (hey you know what, I have not been to doctor in 20 years so I am OK, it only affects the fringes that fall in that 90%.

That is why it can't be predicted who it will kill. Everyone's immune system is different. I mean who knows how strong their immune system is. In a sense you would think it'd actually be better to have a weakened immune system so it doesn't fight back against the virus as hard and send everything into overdrive, but who knows.

Obviously if you have a heart condition for example, your heart isn't going to be strong enough to fight off your immune systems response. Same goes for lungs etc or organs that had previous had cancer. The young people who are dying probably had no idea they even had such conditions because they've probably never been tested for weakness's.

That is what the virus attacks, but your immune systems response to that causes many other problems which is what is causing a lot of deaths.

Yes you can just die from not being able to breathe, but not everyone who dies is dying from that. In a lot of case their vital organs stop working and they die that way.

No. You have to start when you're laid off.

Yes, basically if you get to a point where you have a severe case of pneumonia that you need a ventilator to breathe for you, doctors are at that point waiting, and hoping for your body to work on its own, and fight the infection off itself. But then the body overdoes it, releasing a ton of cytokines as a huge immune response, but this flooding (known as cytokine storm syndrome) is too much for the weakened body to handle, and it eventually leads to organ failure and ultimately death. That's why, the longer you're on a ventilator, the poorer the prognosis is.

There are some ways to combat this, like using immunosuppressive steroids, and other drugs, but they don't always work. Interestingly, Hydroxychloroquine might work to reduce the cytokine storm too.

If any of you are receiving unsolicited emails which are apparently from Netflix, under the guise of your account, about prompting you to update your banking details. Just be careful here in what you do with them.

Irish Netflix users have been urged from Irish Police to be cautious over receiving these email scams which have come from these fraudsters.

https://www.thejournal.ie/netflix-sc...71434-Apr2020/

These fraudsters have also being sending text messages, under the guise of a health authority, that you had apparently been in contact with someone who has had Coronavirus. They give you a link in these messages which would probably include harmful software inside them which could take your financial details away from you if you respond to them straight away.

Do not respond to these emails or texts at all if you receive them during this pandemic if they are in your country.

Contact your local police station, health authority or financial institution immediately if you are victimized with a similar scam.

If you are a Netflix user; more details about approaching this issue are available on Netflix's help center website.

It’s confusing because my buddy started his a couple days before he was “officially” laid off and had no problems. My work also told all of us to apply now even though it’s not in effect until next week. So I’m not sure what to do.

Then definitely try. I've been on it for years so I could be wrong. Apologies if I am.

I may, but the unemployment website says not to start the process if you’re still employed lol. Not sure what the correct answer is.

I'm not getting it because I got fired from a job 2 years ago so my claim was denied. Just have to hope the $ I currently have and the stimulus check will be enough until I return to work.

That sucks. Sorry to hear that.
I got fired a couple weeks ago working out at SoFi Stadium for putting the wrong email address on an official form. Ridiculous.

Haven’t even tried to file for unemployment yet.

Lucky my wife is excellent at saving for rainy days. (Or weeks and months in this case.)
