Yes and again I say, the US has a significantly higher number of cases than China and we are four months behind than China. In fact, the US has the most cases in the entire world. Need I say more?

You are also aware and not to get political that China is a dictatorship and lie about a lot of things. So take anything that China reports with a grain of salt.

China is no where near back to normal. Most of the population are still under complete lockdown, much harsher than ours. What they have now is closer to what most places have had since their 'safer' locking down.

We are FAR from on 'lockdown', we can still leave the frickin house at least, they were literally sealed in their homes.

Thank you. People are acting like this is the end of the world.

Be happy you're alive and healthy. If you're still employed, be happy for that as well.

Otherwise, at *WORST* this is a severe inconvenience.

You don't seem to have a problem 'saying' things, you seem to have trouble 'understanding' things or 'thinking' before you type.

China has past their peek a month ago, we are all still 3-4 months behind them on everything.

The only reason they had less cases is because they actually did something about it when they realised there was a problem coming, no one else did.

I understand your point about the number of cases compared to China. However it's pretty well known that China has underreported the number of cases and deaths.

Anyway, there is no way a total lockdown would happen here. And shutting people in their homes without leaving for months is obviously going to slow the spread more that a stay at home order here.

Bingo! And why didn't we? That's the million dollar question!

What governments do and say are sometimes totally different things.

At the moment they are running a massive PR campaign trying to tell the World that it wasn't as bad as we thought it was, to the point were their minister is calling it an epidemic.

During that time on various media outlets we've seen soldiers dragging people out of their homes and throwing sick people into containers (which were basically coffins for four) to be taken away.

I thought that only the states have the authority to impose lockdowns? So part of it is just they way our government is decentralized. Some counties in California did declare a state of emergency before having a single case.

So you can take that info and extrapolate it to the US of A.

Correct. There is no provision in the Constitution that allows a Federal lockdown. The governor of each state has the final word.

Declaring a state of emergency allows them to get FEMA BUCKS ($). The state of Wyoming had a single death and 275 cases and the governor declared a state of emergency

I don't think it can be blamed on just one government in one country, ours were no better. Many were too slow.

NY has tested over a half million people now, which is more than most states combined, and most countries too, but it's still just a fraction of our population, so if we got the timing wrong and opened too much too soon we could have a worst 2nd wave than the first, especially with more people out and about for the Summer.

With regards to NYC specifically, I firmly believe the subways are the biggest cause of our issues now, and probably from the start. It's hard to completely reduce the transmission rate when you still have crowded trains every day, even if they're supposedly filled with essential workers. Hopefully Cuomo's mandate to wear a mask is followed by more people that ride it, even if there's no sort of enforcement, or penalties involved with that ruling.
Another issue is most New York City residents don't own a vehicle (not sure of the exact percentage), so they must rely on public transportation, taxis, or hooffing it.

Jump in U.S. Covid-19 Death Tally Expected as CDC Changes Counting Practices

Quote:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has changed how it will officially count the number of people sickened and killed by covid-19 in the U.S. This week, the agency announced it will start including in its tally both confirmed and probable cases and deaths attributed to the novel coronavirus. The decision was made on the recommendation of public health experts, according to the CDC.
