The cloth masks will block the larger droplets, which not only come from coughing, but also talking and breathing. That's the main intent.

As posted earlier, here's a scientific test done on how well various masks block out particles as low as .007 microns.

Well I mean I ordered a Burger King lunch for my father's birthday. I asked the driver to leave it on the step. He walked up to the door and asked me if I wanted him to hand it to me. I said no and then he left. I think he should've just done what I asked. Oh well.

guidance without facts creates a false sense of security. all i can do is report facts, cases studies performed by actual medical professionals on this exact topic. if people choose to ignore them, thats their prerogative. take the results however you please. yes, the fact is they are better than wearing nothing. that is irrefutable. but when the number is so minute, its almost laughable to say its really going to do anything at all if you are in fact exposed to it. a micron size of 0.125, im not sure people understand how small that is and any opening in the mouth, eyes, nose it can get into.

those countries where they have been wearing masks routinely for years are not wearing homemade masks. they are wearing surgical masks or N95 masks because they have them readily available.

Well if the cloth mask is to protect the larger droplets from others, (and from others to you as well if you get within 6 feet or are further away but downwind), Then the larger droplets are going to come straight out of your mouth and very little if any upwards through the opening by your nose. And whatever does shoot up through the opening isn't going to travel very far.

Of course a cloth mask isn't going to protect much against vapors (aerosols), but unless you are indoors with lots of people and little ventilation, the risk of that is rather small (compared to larger droplets and touching contaminated surfaces and then touching openings in your face).

The county where I live (Marin) is going to require face covering in public starting next Wednesday. I expected it.

Face coverings will be mandated in public settings where people are coming into close contact with others, especially indoors.

The order does not apply if you are alone indoors, with people you live with, or if you are out by yourself on a walk.

Children under the age of 6 will be exempt.

The order goes into effect at noon on Wednesday, April 22.

Marin County is the second Bay Area county to make face coverings in public a requirement.

in the study you posted, face cloths were left out of the face fit test from what i can see. yes, agreed it will help with larger particles.
