One thing that I am curious about is if they open up the gyms etc how many people will be dumb enough to go? Like all the workers will go because its their jobs and they get payed to but I doubt many customers will go meaning 90% of the workers will get furloughed anyway. The way I see this playing out is we had a supply side shock because the government shut companies down but then when they try to open everything back up you have a demand side shock because only the idiots are willing to do stuff like go to the gyms or eat at a restaurant during a pandemic. If they had not done a shelter in place order people still would have stopped consuming a large portion of stuff eventually because most things aren't worth risking your life over to have. |

The effect of the virus in Ireland has not really crippled the health system to a very large degree. The public hospitals are not seeing overcapacity in their use of beds. Also the amount of ICU beds being freed up has started to increase as well because we had a big increase recently in the number of people who have been formally discharged from hospital after patients had recovered from the virus. The private hospital system has barely been used overall during this pandemic to date.
The largest number of deaths from this virus in Ireland have been reported in people who live in nursing home, community care & residential care home settings. The biggest issues that still remain is that there is still a lack of PPE arriving into these settings. Management staff from these facilities are making huge efforts so far to source the PPE privately for people who have to use it within their own settings as well as getting more PPE supplies from the government who have it shipped into the country by plane. Ireland's government have formally instructed a select number of building sites that build social housing for local councils to re-open with very strict conditions being attached to all construction workers on these sites. These sites are being prioritized to be finished as a way of reducing the amount of people who are either currently on a waiting list for a house or for vulnerable members of society who are currently homeless. Once these housing sites are completed; it will give people who will get these new homes a chance to self-isolate in warm shelter to prevent themselves from catching the virus. A lot of homeless people at the moment are staying in hotels, hostels and B&B's. The number of homeless people sleeping out on the streets is now at historic lows in Ireland. The Construction Industry Federation has said last night that when these sites re-open; all construction workers on site are being instructed to comply with all of the relevant Irish Health & Safety legislation & current health guidelines that relate to the virus from the HSE. If these sites are found to be in breach of these guidelines; they will should be shut down immediately. So that means if anyone working on site spot anyone doing anything inappropriate or anyone catching the symptoms that constitute a breach the rules on these sites. The site managers will have to shut down the site with permission of the health authorities straight away. |

The moves on the chessboard can be interesting….https://celluloidjunkie.com/2020/04/...ere-its-going/
Be it in a theater, supermarket, etc. and someone inadvertently sneezes or irresponsibly coughs freely into the air without covering their mouth/face when not wearing a mask, keep MIT and most recently, Florida Atlantic’s College of Engineering and Computer Science studies in mind - http://news.mit.edu/2014/coughs-and-...ther-you-think http://www.fau.edu/newsdesk/articles...oronavirus.php |

Some more detailed figures have come from Ireland's Department of Health tonight about recorded deaths from Covid-19.
730 deaths have been "laboratory confirmed" deaths occurring within Irish hospitals. 108 deaths have been recorded as deaths in "community related settings". These deaths are not recorded in hospitals. But there has been some good news about Ireland's overall recovery rate from the virus. Over 9,000 people have recovered from the virus, out of a total of 16,040 cases, which is really good news. 8,377 have recovered within community related settings. 956 have been discharged from hospital. Another bit of good news regarding testing for the virus is that the results of people's tests can come back within 24 to 36 hours once a sample gets to a lab. There has been a backlog of tests which has now been resolved with a lot of older tests coming back from a laboratory in Germany. People had to wait about 7 to 10 days for a test result with some people waiting to a month to get their results back. The number of tests carried out to date is still very low at 20,822. 4,025 of those tests have come back positive. Things won't be returning to normal after the 5th of May. Public events like sporting events & concerts which have capacities of over 5,000 people have been called off until late August. Ireland's Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, is to have his first Irish TV interview since the pandemic began, on RTÉ's Prime Time, in a few minutes. Germany the same until Oct. 24th, and their country is in better shape than most. I'm entered in both the Boston and NY marathons this year and I know full well now that the odds of either taking place is zero. Hopefully a few local or trail races will proceed by the fall.

If that is how you want to measure it then yes they are. But nobody cares about comparative mortality rate stats anymore because they are meaningless without more extensive testing. Germany flattened the curve a few weeks ago and is seeing fewer cases. Certainly in better shape than most EU countries and of course the U.S.

The states that are opening up is a prelude to disaster. No way have we flattened the curve. What we need to do is to continue the S-I-P mandates through at least May 15th and possibly until the end of May.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ The Fed has to do more - at least another $2 trillion stimulus package which has to include $2000 per person over the age of 16. What's the difference between being $26T in debt versus $28T? |

A mask and a pair of goggles ... for 3D movies with a smell effect. Each seat would have its own enclosure, with transparent plastic walls (on each side, rear and front). It's going to be different for sure, but the best thing is 3D flicks would be back. |

Amazon should have a stimulus for 4K Blu-ray movies. I think Jeff Bezos can afford it...with $150 billion.
"The first centi-billionaire on the Forbes wealth index, Bezos has been the world's richest person since 2017 and was named the "richest man in modern history" after his net worth increased to $150 billion in July 2018." Sure, he split with his wife, had a little less, and then came Corona pandemic and added $24 billion ... • https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...virus-pandemic Last edited by LordoftheRings; 04-21-2020 at 10:29 PM. |
