Basically the same...NYC population.

Not an easy thing to moderate a pandemic.

Don't ask me. It's not going down by much but perhaps not enough for you to notice. Perhaps people annoy you now and it seems like they're always in the way and that makes it seem like there's more.

I believe NYers are leaving due to the ever increasing land and school taxes. They're sick of it.
Income tax is high too.

Sure, it's a combination of everything. I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to live there either.

Trust me I want to leave, but I inherited 100 acres of property in NY with a cell tower on it, I'm here for the long haul.

Getting tested the day after tomorrow. Have this thing in my palate that was there for three weeks, went away and then came back. The GP I talked to on the phone agreed and gave me the necessary reference.

I had a chance to engage in a conversation with a co-worker recently whom I rarely chat with. Nice lady, in her mid 60's. She's the head housekeeper in my building. Actually, there are only 2 housekeepers but she's been here the longest. She told me her annual property tax bill is $15,000 My jaw dropped to the floor. Holy hell. She claims it's so high because her house sits on a corner in a neighborhood that's been gentrifying for years. I almost asked her how the hell she can afford a home with her housekeeper's salary but decided not to ask directly. Apparently she's worked two full time jobs over her career (I didn't know that). I really gotta hand it to people like her. Working tough jobs all their lives, breaking their backs and putting their kids through college and, yes, buying into the American Dream with their hard-earned dollars. In come the trust funders and privileged brats with daddy's money buying up properties all over town and making it almost impossible for regular people to live normal lives. If they leave New York for New Zealand or wherever they think it's safe, good riddance.

Maybe the New York's population has gone down, but NYC's population is definitely going up. I promise you, subways are more packed than ever. I've have been commuting via NYC's subway for over 20 years and subways were not jammed packed 20 years ago like they are now.

I love how you seem to base your opinions on anecdotal evidence, as if you can somehow judge a population of 8.5 million by looking at how crowded a street or subway is. We actually have data, and facts though, and they show it trending down not up, whether you want to believe it or not..

[Show spoiler]
Believe it or not, subway ridership has increased substantially over the years. In fact, over the years, the MTA has significantly increased the amount of service during rush hour and subway cars are still jam packed. People blame the crappy service for its delays and problems, but it's actually the insane amount of people that use the subway systems that is causing the subway system to crash. If population is going down, then fine. But one thing is for sure, the number of subway riders has been going up significantly.

By the way, I hope that wasn't any of my posts that you are referring to as a "personal attack." Nothing in my posts was meant to attack you, hence why I said "respectfully disagree" in one of my posts.

Why can't you look things up, and get facts before just spouting your opinions? I don't get it. MTA ridership is also down over the last few years...

I still do not get how any public transit is open right now, especially in NYC! Why do I need to hide in my house if New Yorkers continue to to tell people how important public transit is when it is more then likely the main reason why that city and others like it are in rough shape right now.

I wonder when we start discussing how public transit, many college campus buildings, public schools, shopping centers, pretty much everything we do is not designed with social distancing in mind, in fact it's mainly the direct opposite.

Can you tell me how the tens of thousands of healthcare workers, and other essential workers will get from their homes to their place of work? Try and figure that one out before wondering why it's open. It's no doubt a transmission hotspot, but it's also vital to ensure the city functions at all. There is zero alternative to transporting that amount of people from the far reaches of the city, into the heart of the city where most of them work. Some may be able to car pool, but it is absolutely not practical or feasible for the majority of these workers. The subways and buses are their only option.

Is there a breakdown of NYC population changes by social class? For manageability's sake I'm glad that the numbers are going down but if we're losing more of the working class then that would be worrisome and nothing to feel good about. Cost of living is obviously a factor but I'm wondering what other factors might be driving flight. Maybe some of those moneyed trust funders are finally realizing that they're being hoodwinked by greedy landlords. Or they're disappointed about their neighborhoods and are choosing to fly back home to their manicured cul-de-sacs

Their employers or city should create a option to move their essential employees around. Why care about staying home when you allowing the single worst spreader to remain operational which is public transit imo.

I bet those trains are lucky to even get half a##ed cleaned once a day after more then likely thousands of already infected people have used it.
