Is there a way to check the historical cases by day in each country, to see what the trends are? It's just showing for the previous day.

2002...west nile virus: 2,000 people died from the virus in the U.S. since it was first detected in NYC in 1999

2004...sars: spread to over 8,000 people and killed almost 800.....worldwide

2005...bird flu: no known human deaths

2009...swine flu: 57 million Americans sickened; 257,000 had been hospitalized; 11,690 dead (including 1,180 children)

2014...ebola: 2 cases in the U.S.; no known dead

2016...zika: 62 cases reported in 2015; over 5,000 reported in 2016; only 20 in 2019; no known dead

2020...wuhan/corona virus: 40 people have died in the U.S.; 4,720 globally.

total dead is 19,250 from all combined. 19,250....out of 7.5 billion.

between the west nile virus, sars, and the wuhan virus, 7,560 people have died. that's still 4,130 people less than what the swine flu killed by itself. yet people are, again, freaking out over it. if none of the other "world enders" actually ended the world, why should i think this one will? and i'm not being complacent, i'm just not panicking because there's nothing to panic about.

Same here. I'm not in a high risk area at the moment, but I'm worried about keeping myself free of the virus so I don't infect friends and family (and anyone else) who are in higher risk groups. I wonder when stores will start getting it back in stock and if it will again sell out again immediately. Thankfully they are putting dispensers up in buildings all around town which helps. (I'm in upstate NY) People really need to stop hoarding everything because they're only making it less safe for everyone else. That in turns makes it less safe for them as well. I wish they'd realize that. We all need to work together not against each other.

I look at that list and think that we may be overreacting a bit.

I'm just waiting for the actual numbers to come out. We don't have free widespread testing yet, and currently the only numbers being published are tests done by the CDC (they've only done 77 tests in the past week), so it's very likely that the numbers are a lot higher.

Nevermind the comparisons with previous outbreaks - the havoc this virus is wreaking in the world economy and daily life is more than enough to make people panic.

If you don't care about that, one must wonder how you function in society. And acting blasé about a situation that is affecting millions in several countries is incredibly grating.

We don't need another Great Depression.

And as always, the economy will just bounce back. The virus didn't cause all of this. The media outlets and social media has, leading to this unnecessary panic.

Even crazier, is the customers pay a yearly fee just to shop there.

My grocery store was a zoo, no TP (no surprise), but now even the laundry soap is being wiped out!
Pretty sure OT has been approved for store workers, that is of they are well enough to work that is.

At least there hasn't been any rioting or looting..., yet.

Cause school is the only place these kids get a meal and there's no babysitter. That's a discussion for another day.

There was discussion from the Board of Education that they could allow lunch to be picked up at the school. As far as the whole babysitting thing, parents will just have to make arrangements otherwise.

I went to BJ's and Target yesterday and instantly regretted it. Packed full of people. I just grabbed some quick things and tried to get out of there asap.

Time to move to Boca; instant immunity.

There's more to it than simply "dying" or "not dying". Such as needing breathing assistance but not getting it because your hospital only has enough resources for a fraction of their patients.
