That's the thing. At this point, anyone who contracts the virus is pretty much asking for it, except for the health care workers who are putting their life on the line all because said person was being stupid!

Today I had my first door-to-door salesperson of the corona season (pair of guys together). I didn't have the mind to tell them off or anything apart from saying "no no thank you goodbye" and ending it there. In retrospect I should have told them if they're going to do this then at least wear fu*ing masks.
I'm in Texas where the more strict stay-at-home orders ended on Friday. I regret not being any level of aggressive but I also didn't want to come off as a crazy curmudgeon person at them, as that doesn't help anything.

you should have made a sign and taped it to the front door:

"if you aren't the mail or a delivery person, I ain't got the time to talk to you"

lol I was very naively with the impression that everyone was on the same page with this and such a sign could never be necessary for the next few months. I'm just kind of taken aback the more I think about it.

Nothing strong about it. It's called "stay at home " order... meaning stay at home! Does it need to be translated into several different languages before people understand what that means?

not but seriously - I totally agree, you've gotta have mud in your head if you think going door to door and speaking to 'the public' and not wearing a mask is a healthy choice - the virus ain't just gonna disappear overnight because someone sets a date of stay-at-home orders is lifted

I didn't know door to door salespeople still exist, much less in times like this. In fact the last time I remember seeing one was an encyclopedia salesperson about 30 years ago. Still get the Jehovah's Witness coming around, but my wife unfortunately doesn't discourage them. But they haven't come around since the pandemic started.

*Neoz, I'm just quoting you for reference.

OT, this is the same strain most of the World has been dealing with for the last two months. The original strain that began in China mutated in Europe in February & then that "new" strain made it's way to the U.S. in March. This article articulates this statement. However, the media is spinning this as something that was JUST discovered, it's not.

Back in 1918 they learned two things: S-I-P along with wearing masks stopped the spread of the virus. They didn't even know it was caused by a virus. And they watched .6% of the USA's population die. Each time they relaxed the mandates, the virus spread like wildfire.

The media is really getting annoying with this fearmongering crap.

We get primarily window/insulation people, and these people today were exterminators which made it even more batshit that they couldn't have the decency to wear a mask. I should mention they were at least standing back six feet from the door.

I think part of it is it's weird to feel so appalled that someone would come and knock at my front door. This dumb new world.

I live in the woods and the witnesses still find me. They aren’t coming around now because of the pandemic. I wouldn’t mind that being the new norm. Very rare to have a door salesman stop by. One guy banged on my door trying to sell me insurance a few years ago.....

Speaking of my home state & King Corona ... Yee Haw y'all!

Texas hair salons, barbershops, nail/tanning salons to reopen May 8; gyms on May 18

Quote:
DALLAS - People in Texas can start getting haircuts this Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Tuesday.

Texas hair salons, barbershops, nail/tanning salons can reopen May 8 and gyms will be allowed to reopen at reduced capacity on May 18.

There will be one customer per stylist, people can only wait inside if they maintain social distancing and appointment scheduling is encouraged to avoid walk-ins congregating.

Stylists and customers will be encouraged to wear masks, Abbott said.

“This allows these types of businesses to open up, but it doesn’t require them to do so,” Abbott said. “Every owner of every salon should use their own best judgement.”

Gyms and exercise facilities will be allowed to open May 18 at 25 percent capacity. All equipment must be disinfected after each use and customers must use gloves and maintain six-feet social distancing. Showers and locker rooms will remain closed. Equipment brought into the gym, like personal yoga mats, must be disinfected before and after use.

There’s still no date set to reopen bars in the state, but Abbott is encouraging feedback from bar owners.

“We are still working on safe ways to establish safe distancing at bars,” Abbott said.

Abbott also clarified the 25 percent capacity limits do not apply to outdoor seating at restaurants, but the social distancing rules of six feet do. The capacity limit does remain in effect for indoor seating.

Abbott clarified that weddings are part of the ceremonies involved in rules for religious services, funerals, burials and memorials. They can occur, but all have limited seating arrangements, like alternating rows and social distanced seating. Abbott said health officials encouraged at-risk people to watch remotely. Also, any wedding receptions should abide by the same capacity rules as restaurants.

There were 784 new COVID-19 cases statewide on Monday, up 2 percent from Sunday. There were 17 new COVID-19 deaths in Texas on Monday. Since the pandemic began, there are 32,332 cases in Texas and 884 deaths from the coronavirus.

Abbott's office has said the number of daily confirmed cases is expected to increase as the state ramps up testing to nearly 30,000 tests per day.
