Went to the grocery store for the first time in months (to get gift cards for my mom and dad for Mother’s Day and my dad birthday) and pretty much everyone was wearing a mask which was nice.

The article title is 'Study on genetic mutation suggests COVID-19 could 'weaken'.

And then near the end of the article it states:

"But the research team says that it’s too soon to know if the virus is beginning to weaken."

Click bait articles are getting worse during the pandemic.

The problem is we're bombarded with experts who "think" this and "suspect" that 24 hours a day on the media channels.

When they know quite well ... that's not how science's work.

It's like the term "to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty" in court rooms, it has no meaning in actual science.

I understand you're there because you're paid, but sometimes "we just don't know" is the better answer.

Nobody?
Think pressure related (actually unrecognized) friction lesions of the skin due to prolonged mask use, be it with health care providers or simply those lay persons working in any type of service environment where they’ll be wearing a mask all day on the job, at least 5 days a week.

How to mitigate this issue?

Never heard of this. Would this apply to simple face coverings as well?

Speaking of which...

A cloth mask, depending on how it’s made will reduce the viral load you inhale somewhere between a 10-90%, with most masks being around 50-70%.

They definitely help. But everyone wearing a mask is the best outcome if we all want to get back to some normalcy while reducing risk.

I don't know if it is click bait (there are a lot more articles that have a lot less to say)

the simple reality is viruses are not alive, and so they need a host (and living host cells) to reproduce and survive as a species. It is just as bad for the virus to be deadly as it is for the host. The viruses want to evolve to a none deadly form just as much as we as hosts would want it. A virus also needs to be in a sweet spot in contagious rate (much lower then where COVID-19 is now).

Either covid-19 will evolve to a less deadly, and less contagious form like 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1 (the 4 corona viruses that make up part of what we call common cold) or like SARS & MERS it will become obsolete.

I wouldn't say MERS is obsolete...it still occurs yearly....it's just not as effective a virus as Covid is, so it tends to die out (with the victims) quickly.

I would imagine that would depend upon how firm they fit and seal.

The copyright strikes are generally automatic, so they can be countered, but if the video goes against the new guidelines then it will be removed.

It doesn't help that media outlets like CBS, deemed authoritative and reliable by YouTube have been caught re-using news footage in one case and "sexing" up a story about testing queues (where they took medical professionals away from patients to pose as people waiting in a queue to be tested) to make them look longer.
And yet... youtube still leaves up a conspiracy theory from George Webb saying a female US army reservist was patient zero that gets propogated by China state media, even though she's never had coronavirus.

Not even going to get into what I think about YT as anything but a source of music and the occasional video for one of my classes.

Why are people so obsessed with going to a nail salon that they're willing to risk getting infected? I can understand wanting a restaurant or even a bar open just to mingle with other humans but a nail salon? Or a hairdresser for that matter. So many people so full of themselves.

Well haircut, I can understand, especially for men. We really start looking untidy since we always keep our hair short. With women, it’s easier. Just cut the ends off and it’s all good. But nails? Yeah, I think your pretty nails can wait. As long as you have a nail clipper, then that’s all that’s necessary.

I Don't know if this has been posted but, throw men wanted for the dollar store shooting have been arrested. The daughter that wasn't wearing a mask in the store has been arrested as well.

I'm not saying it puts salons to the top of the list, but you're really understating the work those professionals do. You can't just cut the ends off---technique is required or it really looks bad. You can cut nails with a clipper but it won't be a manicure. Salons also handle a lot of other...maintenance down under.

That’s rather dismissive. You can have a better meal at home than at most restaurants. You can stream movies instead of buying all those blu-rays.

Given the current situation I can understand salons not being a priority, but they do more than a mindless job.

Governor Newsom in California hinted the salons could open within a month. There is more risk in cutting hair and nails, but at a certain point people need to get real haircuts and these people need to work to survive. Risks can be minimized by wearing masks and keeping things sanitized, along with some ventilation (maybe a fan or having the door left open). Also limit people waiting inside and encourage appointments.

Especially with summer right around the corner, it's not that hard to keep the doors to a lot of businesses propped open, at least on days when it isn't pouring rain. Install cheap fans at strategic places around stores to keep the air circulating. Do whatever it takes to GET STORES OPEN.
