I think it's like one or two researchers that are bypassing tests, let's not act like it's all of them. But even supposing there are more, the drugs are still going to be extensively tested through human trials, the same way all drugs are. Bypassing the efficacy test in animals, many of which don't even really apply to humans at all, doesn't mean it hasn't been properly vetted for human use. I think it's short-sighted to assume any vaccine will have not proven it's been effective, or safe for humans by the time it's officially on the market.. Also keep in mind that these vaccines weren't just invented from scratch this year. They are very likely based on pre-existing formulas that have been tested on animals prior, but perhaps just fine-tuned for COVID-19.

The Oxford Vaccine, which to me is one of the most promising ones, has already been tested on animals (macaques,), and shown to be effective, and it has years of research, and data behind it already, based on its successful use on other Coronaviruses.

No doubt, when I hear words fast tracked, yeah it doesn't give me confidence.

Not much this government can do though because the population and media are screaming for this cure that sadly doesn't exist. Normal procedures that many vax's we use go though have already been stated will be skipped over to get to a cure quicker.

your link really diverts from the issue, all your link refutes is the exact amount given as well as then insinuates that the issue is that the virus was manufactured in a lab. thats not the issue at all really and they are sidestepping the issue.

the links below describe exactly how and why this could have escaped from the lab accidentally as the grants given were precisely for research on this type of virus at the direct behest of many scientists/experts. also, theres no mention that Obama administration put a cease on the grants which was then re-instituted by the NIAID several years later.

a whole lot of "better than thou" in here (i am not directing that at you Owl) and i'm sure they are the very same people who thought Comey was such a great guy. look how that turned out

pre-symtomatic: 45%

symtomatic: 40%

environmental: 10%

asymptomatic: 5%

Surprising to see that getting it from touching surfaces is only 10% of all transmission, and people that are asymptomatic comprise of only 5%.

im assuming asymptomatic is only 5% becuase its so hard to trace. how exactly does one trace it without knowing they have it and infecting others?

love optimism, but lets not naively believe things arent being rushed as they normally would be in terms of testing.

[Show spoiler]Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, said that the earliest the US could possibly get a vaccine would be in 12 or even 18 months — "at least."

Even a year-and-a-half would be staggeringly fast for vaccine development, and some experts have voiced concerns that a vaccine produced on that timeline could hurtle too quickly through safety trials.

Scientists already have a head-start, thanks to years research on potential coronavirus vaccines, but there are still plenty of necessary obstacles. One of the most pertinent is that some of the most prominent candidates for a coronavirus vaccine are using novel technology that has never been used in an approved vaccine.

"When Dr. Fauci said 12 to 18 months, I thought that was ridiculously optimistic," Paul Offit, the co-inventor of the rotavirus vaccine in the late 1990s, told CNN. "And I'm sure he did, too."

For example, vaccines for other kinds of coronaviruses that caused two recent deadly epidemics — MERS and SARS — took longer than 18 months to develop, and neither have made it all the way through the approval process.

After severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) broke out in 2003, it took 20 months for a vaccine to be trialed on humans. The outbreak had subsided by that time, and a vaccine was under development until 2016, and was ultimately put on hold.

Some scientists worry that a rushed vaccine could result in what's known as "enhancement" whereby a vaccine actually weakens a person's response to a virus when they contract it. For example, one study on a SARS vaccine in 2004 found that some ferrets developed hepatitis, rather than a resilience to the coronavirus.

Yeah, I heard from doctors that the flu shot takes two weeks to take effect and most likely, these people were developing cold/flu symptoms already. But I don't know, it just seems like an odd coincidence.

Mind you, I'm not saying a vaccine is bad for you. I'm just saying that I, personally, think some people have bad reactions to it. It's just like anything, even medication. Not every person's body responds positively to it.

But then again, I'm no medical expert and maybe they're right and it's all just coincidence.

Vaseline petroleum jelly with cocoa butter. I use it before I go to bed. I’ve used Aquaphor and O’Keeffe’s working hands over the years but Vaseline has been the best for me at healing especially overnight.

My nearest elderly neighbour had died from complications due to Covid-19 in her home last Wednesday.

She had a private funeral mass held at my local church this morning. Her funeral cortege in my housing estate in Dublin was very poignant for me to take in. Everyone of her neighbours had clapped to her in her honour as her coffin was being driven around it especially when it stopped near her house. I thought that it was a really beautiful moment to take part in while we are in these scary times.

If I made a post about this in the thread earlier on this week. This is the very same elderly neighbour who had died from it.

May she R.I.P.

Always shake my head at the people who refuse the flu shot because it "gives them the flu." There are actually people who believe you're "paying to get the flu." A lot of folks also don't realize it's a free service with insurance a lot of the time or can be had for under twenty bucks if paying out of pocket, and you don't have to see a doctor first.

saw this article earlier but i'm sorry. if youre soooo scared and shocked by a middle seat not being empty or a reduced number of people flying, your entire logic is flawed to begin with.

youre in a confined space with other people. if you are scared of not social distancing, why on earth would you step foot on an airplane. makes no sense.

"This is the last time I'll be flying again for a very long time," he wrote in a Twitter thread over the weekend, adding that a lot of passengers on the flight were "scared/shocked."

give me a break

I'm sure if people are traveling at this time, it's for essential purposes.

Probably family members. If three of you are in the same household, they are allowed to seat you together.

did you read your own article?

United Airlines recently announced that it was making some middle seats unavailable for passengers to select. But the company said it was also not reducing capacity on flights, so a passenger could be seated in a middle or adjacent seat if necessary.

"Though we cannot guarantee that all customers will be seated next to an unoccupied seat, based on historically low travel demand and the implementation of our various social distancing measures that is the likely outcome," the airline said in a statement to CNN.

The spokesperson added that most of the airline's flights are operating at less than half capacity and that passengers can rebook if they feel their safety is in jeopardy.

Though airlines are seeing a significant decrease in the number of passengers, United and others have also slashed their schedules, potentially leading to fuller flights than some passengers might expect.
