Looks like there's an almost a certainty that Los Angeles will extend its stay at home order for 3 more months...that's absolutely absurd. Many won't have jobs to come back to.

You could argue both that they knew what was coming so they closed early....or....racism. I've heard both.
Part of it is a supply chain issue, not being able to source their ingredients, etc..

That kind of dilutes the meaning of "stay at home" if they are reopening beaches, parks and phasing in the reopening of non-essential businesses during that time. If they do keep businesses closed through July, then there won't be many left to reopen (at least, without MASSIVE government aid).

My local small town Chinese restaurant closed fairly early on, citing supply issues. I was surprised since American Chinese food was invented to take advantage of local supplies and tastes so shouldn't they have the same suppliers as non-Chinese food?

because stating 10-90% clearly shows there are way too many variables to make any determination.

regardless, masks help, people should wear them in public

There has been some good news this evening from the team of Irish health experts which handles the official response to Covid-19 in Ireland.

NPHET are advising the Irish Government in Dublin that members of the general population in the country should be required to wear face masks, as official advice, soon as the Irish Government's official roadmap of easing the lockdown restrictions begins on Monday the 18th of May.

The question that comes now is how can the continual supply chain of face masks be expanded as they get worn by the rest of the population!

Since today; some businesses like pharmacies and newsagents in Ireland selling face masks to the public have started to see a huge demand for them from members of the public right up until become completely out of stock. A lot of people who are buying the face masks, in theory, should be the ones who are meant to be among the 1st groups of people returning to work on the 18th of May. But I don't know how far that demand for face masks is going by people who are working in every sector of Ireland's economy. I would like to see in future how the demand for them is widespread among each section of Irish society.

There are some surprising evidence being recorded from Irish people after being surveyed about the easing of their lockdowns.

About 43% of Irish people have said that they have overcome the worst of the pandemic & it is now over.

Dr. Tony Holohan, CMO at the Irish Department of Health, has said at a media briefing in Dublin last night that there was cause for concern that some people believe the worst of the coronavirus crisis was behind us with saying that it's causes a challenge in getting the message out. He reiterated that if Ireland gets things wrong as the restrictions from the lockdown begin to get eased; then we could face a challenge every bit as great as the challenge over the last 2 months. He also said that he understands the anticipation and desire to see progress on things such as shops opening and life returning to normal, but both the Department of Health & NPHET will continue to hand out advice based on public health needs.

https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/1259888751960117248

Now think about that for a second. A large cohort of the Irish public believe that the pandemic is behind them. Do you think they are being brave to say such things? That is still quite a big risk to take in when regarding the public health guidelines that are still in place right now.

There is still a very selfish cohort of people out there who want to delay every bit of progress in suppressing this virus further so they can make every bit of misery last that little bit longer; and that is not fair for the majority of people in Ireland to endure. However; there still has been a high rate of compliance of the restrictions among members of the public according to Irish police. The legislation covering the Covid-19 pandemic in Ireland has only been enacted among a small minority of the Irish population who are breaking the law who are knowingly spitting on members of the police & members of the public. Irish police have also seized drugs & weapons from the offenders vehicles at random police checkpoints around the country.

Do you expect NYC to be any different?

I know you live in Albany and, with your mindset, it shows. Big cities will be the last to open. I'm not supposed to go back to work until September

Ok, but he did say 50-70 was the common range and so I went with it. I suppose those would be the type you can buy in stores now.

There's a few open here, that normally do a lot of take out. I've only been to the Panda Express (really convenient since it's only a couple of blocks, but it's not as good as other places). Jenny Low's is my favorite, but there message machine says they'll be closed at least until June. Maybe a combination of supply issues and that they depend more on dine-in traffic.

Hmmm we were going to order Chinese here in a couple nights. So far we haven't had any issues with take out from various places (Indian, Pizza, Italian) - although some items aren't available depending upon the restaurant.

My wife and I found one around us that is open, but most are closed. It’s strange because almost all the other restaurants in the area are open for delivery and take out.

We're not there yet but I think we're going to reach a certain point soon where certain businesses can't recover because they've been closed too long. How long can you suppress operations before owners start to give up? Just to be clear, I'm not advocating for stores to open their doors and let the throngs in - even if they did there are still government restrictions - I'm just saying there will be points of no return for some shop owners as a consequence of prolonged shutdown. BTW, barber shops should be considered an essential business, otherwise they're going to start having to require men to wear hair nets
