Are you going to run all the time with a mask on, or just pull it up when you see someone coming? Here in the Bay Area, masks are required indoors but outside only if social distancing can't be maintained.

In construction that restarted on May 3rd, they require masks on job sites, but a customer of mine who oversees a job site says that he tells his crew that they can just leave it around their neck and pull it up if they see someone coming.

Yeah, oh I miss my person-to-person social life sooooo much.

That's 99% of it right there, but outside there has to be some common sense regarding masks. Are people going to want to spend hours at a park with a messy mask over their face because it's 90 degrees out? This virus is almost never transmitted outdoors anyway.

We're not required to wear them while exercising but I'm one of those snobbish runners who will say people who are just strolling or hiking should wear them because that's not really exercise. If it were, running wouldn't be recommended for optimum health.

Interesting how people are actually sad about staying at home. Back when our lives were normal, most people spent more time on their phones instead of going out and socializing. So I don't understand why all of a sudden, isolating yourself is causing people to become sad.
It's the truth. Imagine life without cell phones, social media or TV today. Then people would be going nuts. I think most people are fine staying at home for the most part, but obviously they miss their normal routine.

It's the elderly and children who are being impacted the most. The elderly are feeling isolated and lonely and many don't use social media that much. Children want to get out and play and play with other children at the parks.

Yup, summer sports were listed in the governor's weekly report, basically they're saying "no" but you can do it with severe restrictions. Yikes, poor kids.

Maybe it should me more clear in the order. It reads like all the time as soon as you step off of private property. Some people like to play Pandemic Police and do mask shaming.

That's exactly what she's saying. She's convinced virus spread would drop (I think) 40-70% if everyone would virus distance and wear masks. Can't say I disagree. Too much effort for most people, I guess. FWIW I don't want to wear masks either, will look into less annoying options since she really said coverings of some kind are enough.

French kids. I guess dodgeball is technically possible if the teacher is willing to go fetch all the time.

Why are people still allowed to freely trek the globe on planes? I don't get it. This is how this virus spread - from infected people getting off planes from overseas. The virus supposedly began in China but how do you think the US has become the epicenter? Because of people coming and going to all sorts of places via planes. Closing down airports is a better idea than closing down gyms and nail salons in Backwater, USA.

So all the time except while exercising? Maybe she should say that then.

I'm sure some people have locked their brains down as well as their bodies ... a tradesman who comes regularly to our house told us he's safe because he's been "tested" by the Council. What? Unless he was tested yesterday and given the results this morning then it's completely bloody useless. How many people has he come in contact with since the test?

We're going to basically turn the World into the Adult Film industry, people will need tests the day before and sign off that they won't be coming into contact with anybody else until they see you.

The UK's tracing App sounds like a farce. If a person contracts the virus and gets tested, they're days from knowing the result, so they can basically catch the virus at a gathering with friends, go home, then get on a train to go to work the next day, get off the train an get a text that they're infected.

Unless we can develop on the spot testing and results cases are just going to spike every time restrictions are lessened.

There were 3 single screen drive-in where I grew up near Waterloo Iowa. Some of my best memories were at those places. Don't know if any still exist but I doubt it.

Yikes

Better hope the little ones are asleep by the time the 10pm showing of Birds of Prey hits the screen. Weird to combine a PG and R rated movie together.

It reminds me of my Dad taking me to the drive-in when I was 11 or 12 to see Dillinger. He feel asleep and didn't realize Candy Stripe Nurses was the second feature. He woke up during a topless scene. The shock on his face, he turned the ignition, the car's lights came on .....people were honking at him for having his headlights on.

Bruce, I grew up in a small town not far from you. When I was a Senior at Drake, I had an internship with KWWL working in their Des Moines office. It was basically me and a former Drake grad covering the State Legislature.

Here's the "Playbook For Early Response To High-Consequence Emerging Infectious Disease Threats and Biological Incidents" that was given to the current administration by the previous administration. Page 9, among other pages, is of particular interest:

Default Speech Droplets ... Small / Loud ... Airborne Virus Transmission

Quote:
"Speech droplets generated by asymptomatic carriers of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are increasingly considered to be a likely mode of disease transmission. Highly sensitive laser light scattering observations have revealed that loud speech can emit thousands of oral fluid droplets per second. In a closed, stagnant air environment, they disappear from the window of view with time constants in the range of 8 to 14 min, which corresponds to droplet nuclei of ca. 4 μm diameter, or 12- to 21-μm droplets prior to dehydration. These observations confirm that there is a substantial probability that normal speaking causes airborne virus transmission in confined environments."
