Think about it. If last weekend, you had a family crisis and your mother was hospitalized in critical condition, are you going to be like, "I shouldn't have to go to the hospital and visit my mom. I should go out to Central Park on this nice, sunny day and live my life"?
Same goes for the current situation we're in right now. We're in a global crisis and it's time to put our self pleasure to the side and start thinking of other people. A crisis is no time to be selfish. |

So we should stay at home for the rest our lives? The virus isn't going anywhere.

Also people seem to equate outdoor risk as the same as indoors, but it's actually much, much safer. Open air rapidly dilutes virus particles and the wind provides plenty of circulation. It's actually hard to get it outside unless you engage in prolonged face-to-face close contact with someone (over 15 minutes), or someone coughs or sneezes directly into your face. Also viruses don't live well on outside surfaces, especially those exposed to sunlight. This is a virus well over 99% contracted from indoor locations.

I believe most states have always been okay with people going outside for walks. People living in less congested parts of the country have that privilege. However, one can see how this could go terribly wrong if thousands of people started going for walks around Manhattan each day.

China, Georgia and most recently Texas has shown that everyone is opening up too soon. Cases are jumping.
I'm not one for the Government telling us how to live, but come on, stay home, stay safe, don't infect others. You can't tell if you are asymptomatic. WV just said that they are going to start opening up. I think it is a bad call at this time. |

Is it selfish to do what the local government restrictions allows us to do? Are we to follow their guidelines or the wishes of the most fearful?

It’s really not going to end until there is a vaccine. Things will loosen up for some time, but once late Fall and Winter get here the threat of another outbreak will likely cause restrictions again. (Assuming there isn’t a vaccine readily available by then)

Security must've let him shop like that anyway as to not create a bigger scene, but I noticed by the time the customer got back to self-checkout, he was totally uncovered while paying. Then he checks his bag afterwards right in front of the shopping carts at the entrance where everyone is walking in/out. I couldn't believe the gall of some of these people out there. |

Should be a policy that, if you do get in without a mask, then they won't check you out at the register. And if they get pissy and do something stupid like cough on purpose or spread their germs, then it would be charged as a felony. After all, they're unmasked and on camera, so they won't be hard to find.

In a perfect world, yeah. Unfortunately, some folks would react quite aggressively if they were singled out like that. On occasion since this pandemic started, we would have local police parked outside our doors for situations like that where people walk in sans masks, but lately, they've not been showing up as often.

Someone who refuses to wear a mask even around his 90 year old father with a heart condition looked at me like I'm insane for wearing a mask in the grocery store. I am healthy and young. However, I have no interest in getting anyone else sick. He asked, "Well, when will you ever stop wearing a mask?" A fair question, and I assured him that I would be more than happy to wear a mask for every store trip for the next 80 years if it meant it might save someone from this virus. Again, it's quite literally the least I can do.

If I'm forced to wear a mask for six hours a day at work, customers should be able to wear one for twenty goddamn minutes while shopping.
