If people limit their outdoor activities for essential purposes and maybe just a brief walk while social distancing to get fresh air, then the spread will slow significantly. It's already slowing significantly here in NYC, but can you imagine how much better we'd be if everyone did what they were told? Just sayin...
I think it will be interesting to see what happens over the next 2 weeks, now that some places are allowing things to open up more. If we see another uptick in new cases, we know we're not ready to open up. Remember that incubation can be up to 12 days or more, though the average is I believe 5 days, with most people showing signs by day 9 or 10 at the latest. So the new cases we see today does not reflect stores opening up over the weekend - it's too early to know yet. It's too bad to be using some areas as a "testing ground" but we'll never know if everything remains closed indefinitely. We need to learn how to live with the virus for the time being until we can find a vaccine. It's all about balance. But as you point out, many just aren't following basic guidelines which makes things worse.

Huge crowds in central park or on the beach may not be the best idea, or lines forming at voting booths, but not everyplace is as busy as New York. Small groups of families that are living together anyways going outside for a while to sit on a lawn or a park bench for fresh air should be fine as long as strangers are spaced apart. People being packed like sardines is a bad idea.

Default Trump Admits To Taking Hydroxychloroquine With Zinc As Preventative Measure

https://www.zerohedge.com/health/tru...loroquine-zinc

Quote:
President Trump admitted on Monday taking Hydroxychloroquine with zinc as a precaution against coronavirus - telling reporters "I happen to be taking it," and "I'm not going to get hurt by it."
Quote:
"Every patient I've prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free," said Los Angeles doctor Dr. Anthony Cardillo, adding "So clinically I am seeing a resolution."

Cardillo, CEO of Mend Urgent Care, says that the drug must be used in conjunction with Zinc, as the hdroxycholoroquine opens a 'channel' for the mineral to enter cells and prevent the virus from replicating.
I believe this will be the preventive cure for COVID-19 and for the common flu.

I think we can all hope for that.

Sorry, you're going to need a vaccine specifically for covid-19, and a different vaccine specifically for the common flu. Due to the different variants in common flu every year, its going to be different every year.

The problem with Hydroxychloroquine speculation is that it's getting stockpiled, so the people that need it can't get it. If some doctor said insulin protected people we'd have waves of diabetics being without their lifesaving medication and putting them in comas.

Ventured out with the wife to one of the big Home & Garden places to get flowers. They had marked out where to stand in line and were only letting so many in at a time. Lots of sanitation stations around etc.

I’d guess slightly more than half of the customers were wearing masks (myself included).

Yeah, I envy people who live out in the country where they have a nice backyard where they can hang around outdoors and not worry about getting close to other people. But us city people, we don't have much choice but to stay cooped up in our apartment until this blows over. I might consider moving out of the city when this is over.

Truth be told, he's probably not even really taking it anyways. What doctor would write up a prescription for the President of the United States to take a drug not approved for what it's being taken for, simply as a precautionary treatment, when all signs are pointing to it causing higher mortality rates and no improvement for those that have COVID-19, and may cause heart problems? What doctor would take that responsibility?

ST Nichole. Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread. Virology Journal. (2005) 2: 69

Chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS CoV infection of primate cells in tissue culture. These inhibitory effects are observed when cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic preventative and treatment use. The paper describes three mechanisms by which the drug might work and suggest it may have both a prophylactic and therapeutic role in Coronavirus infections.

As far back as 2005...
Again, I hope this proves true.

Claiming he got a letter the other day from a New York doctor who alleged he has successfully treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients with a combo of the drug and azithromycin, Trump complained about “phony reports” that showed the lack of efficacy of the drug in treating the coronavirus.

The report that Trump was grousing about appears to be the government-funded study of Veterans Affairs coronavirus patients who were treated with the drug, which found that it didn’t help the veterans and was actually associated with more deaths.

While the study wasn’t peer reviewed, it was backed by the National Institutes of Health and the University of Virginia. Days later, the FDA issued a warning against prescribing the drug for coronavirus outside of clinical trials and hospitals. The FDA’s April warning said that “serious and potentially life-threatening heart rhythm problems” have been reported in association with hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine.
Quote:
Despite the early interest in the drug, health-care providers around the world have grown more cautious about the drug due to concerns about its effectiveness and possible side effects. The state of Utah canceled a large order for the drug and scrapped plans to make it available over the counter while hospitals in France and Sweden stopped making the drug available because of its potentially dangerous cardiac side effects.
This is not the solution we're looking for.

The FDA and NIH emergency trials already started.

But I was replying to you stating this would be able to be a preventive cure for covid-19 (unproven, as of today, we'll see with the trial, but looking at the results of other trials the results aren't promising) and the common flu (yea... no) - that's an entirely different thing.

Yeah, the heavy breathing is a serious concern. I just linked to an article earlier today that talks about how loud talking spreads the virus further. Sweaters and heavy breathers seem like a bad idea to be around. Gyms should be the last thing they open imo. People can do push-ups and excessive at home for now. They wont die missing their gym routine for a while. It won't be the same thing as their normal workout but the risk at gyms is too high imo.

I agree that if you only listen to one person right now, he should be the one. Sadly, many aren't choosing the right person to listen to.

I actually prefer at-home for lifting right now. I can stream while I lift, there's nobody else to deal with while I lift, I don't have to move across a gym while lifting and there's no equipment to wipe.

Yeah, I don't see how it's feasible to wipe down equipment in-between users. There's so many different areas and bars and handles and nooks and crannies that are being touched, plus I would not even want to be in the same area as somebody that was just breathing heavy in that same area just a few minutes earlier.

Gyms are nice to meet bodies in shape, while working out ...
During a pandemic better working out somewhere else ...
