(Bloomberg) -- Americans must be ready for more drastic steps to slow the march of the coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday.

“Americans should be prepared that they are going to have to hunker down significantly more than we as a country are doing,” Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Asked if he would prefer some kind of 14-day national shutdown to “flatten the curve” of Covid-19 spread, Fauci said -- in one of five interviews on Sunday talk shows -- “I would prefer as much as we possibly could.”

On “Fox News Sunday,” though, the veteran infectious diseases specialist didn’t endorse a nationwide shutdown. With ‘stringent mitigation and containment’ measures without a complete lockdown will help the U.S. avoid getting to where Italy is now, he said.

I don't get people that think that hot weather is the cure.

Let me ask you this, when you take your temperature what do you look for (for example, healthy, a bit if fever, a lot of fever) and what temp is it now where you live and how hot does it get?

100%. We need a hard country wide quarantine.

How long should schools close during coronavirus pandemic? Here’s exactly what the CDC says.

Someone on twitter said "How can you spread a virus if you are healthy and not carrying it?"

that and better treatments and the system isn't built for everyone being sick at the same time

That's not even considering things like other health issues and accident victims rolling being admitted into hospitals...
They might have to resort to using tents, or just refusing patients altogether, the latter which can result to lawsuits.

Even if they had a vaccine right now, they would not have enough for everyone.
The lines for it would be astronomical.
Most likely only the rich would be able to afford ithe, and those with good health insurance.

What we need to do is to contain it. And that can only be done by people staying in their homes as much as possible. Once the virus is contained we can see who recovers and who requires medical attention. Your "let the chips fall where they may" solution would be a disaster.

With pretty much everything shut down or cancelled, it should be easier for people to stay home, but I guess not.

It sounds like a bunch of teachers will be calling out tomorrow so he will have no choice pretty soon. He still looks like a fool though.

Am I worried? Damn right I am. I am 68+ and have Lymphoma which is a form of "walking cancer" that has left me with a shattered immune system. Back in Feb. 2016 I got the flu. Hey - just get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids right? Nope. Had to go to the hospital - it almost killed me. Was on straight Oxygen for 5 days. Could not perform any function other than breathing and that was labored. Had 4 IV lines dripping all kinds of stuff into me. 4 days latter I was able to go home but still had to have Oxygen through one of those nose things for 2 weeks. October - got a flu shot and every Oct now I get one.

I know damn well if I were to contract the Corona virus I would be one of the mortality statistics. So every time I leave my home (which I do very infrequently) I make sure I stay well away from everyone. If I have to go shopping, I wear disposable gloves. I wash my hands about a dozen times afterwards and make sure I do not touch my face.

I am sure that many here would be fine after contracting the virus. I am not one of them.

According to him the young kids will starve and the older ones will hang out on the streets in droves. Complete buffoon.

Smart move or grave mistake? NYC keeps schools open amid coronavirus outbreak

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) — As schools across the US shut down in hopes of helping to fight the coronavirus, New York City officials are arguing just the opposite: They’re keeping the nation’s largest school system open to ensure that health and emergency workers aren’t tied down with kids at home.

Someone here mentioned a fuel shortage due to people driving around looking for TP, food, etc. It's the exact opposite:

Global Oil Demand Heads for Record Annual Drop as Virus Spreads

Quote:
(Bloomberg) -- Global oil consumption is in free-fall, heading for the biggest annual contraction in history, as more countries introduce unprecedented measures to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

Travel bans, work-from-home, canceled vacations and disrupted supply chains all mean reduced demand for fuel. As societies respond to the virus, oil demand -- already hammered by China’s decision to shut down swathes of the economy -- is falling further. Oil traders, executives, hedge fund managers and consultants are revising down their forecasts dramatically.

The growing fear among many traders is that oil demand, which averaged just over 100 million barrels a day in 2019, may contract by the most ever this year, easily outstripping the loss of almost 1 million barrels a day during the great recession in 2009 and even surpassing the 2.65 million barrels registered in 1980, when the world economy crashed after the second oil crisis.

“This global pandemic is something the world hasn’t witnessed since 1918,” said Pierre Andurand, who runs oil hedge fund Andurand Capital Management LLP. “I do not see how the the demand drop wouldn’t be multiples of the drop witnessed during the global financial crisis.”
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/mark...cid=spartandhp

Last time I went to fill up my car I paid $2.19/gallon. Yesterday I filled up on Phillips 66 regular: $1.70 a gallon.

Today - the USA is the number one oil producer. But due to the Saudi/Russia oil pissing contest we will be downgraded to #2 because the Saudis are flooding the market with cheap oil to regain the #1 position.

I expect to see the price of gas at the end of March around $1.50/gallon. Fuel is probably the LAST thing that will be on the shortage list.

What are everyone's thoughts on the theory that Coronavirus was already here in the states back in December/January?
