The decreased rate of transmission benefit that mask wearing provides is backed up by sound, indisputable evidential data, including real-time, real-world applications. People are free to ignore the information provided by medical professionals & scientists if they want to, & that is clearly happening. Some people simply have trouble accepting facts & they'll try everything they can to justify dismissing those facts.

You know what's more effective than wearing a mask that may or may not be getting the job done? Staying home instead of running out of the house every time you get bored.

Really hard to run and bike with a mask on in the heat and humidity.

I'm not doing it, running requires focus and proper breathing.

Fauci Says Coronavirus Second Wave ‘Is Not Inevitable,’ Stresses CDC Guidelines

I got attacked for having the audacity to go against the so-called prevailing scientific opinion (at the time), that the second wave probably won't be as severe, and here we have THE Dr. Fauci saying that it's not a sure thing that we'll even have one at all, lol.

Although I do think we'll have a spike in cases in the fall when the weather turns cold and more people congregate inside. Whether that's enough to call it a "wave" remains to be seen.

I carry a face covering during my runs but only pull it up when encounter someone that's going to get within 6 feet.

Here again is the article I posted earlier about the risk from getting it from a passing runner. It's really very, very low.

It was Fauci himself that said it was pretty much inevitable one month ago. Fauci is a very knowledgeable guy, but he flp-flops a lot.

From April 28:

Quote:
Top US infectious disease doctor Anthony Fauci said today "I'm almost certain it will come back" when he was asked about the possibility of a second wave of Covid-19 hitting later this year.

"In my mind, it's inevitable that we will have a return of the virus," Fauci said while speaking to the Economic Club of Washington on a Zoom call.

Well the opinion then that it perhaps was indeed inevitable. But a lot of knowledge about the virus can be gain in seven weeks time. So I suspect his this statement is just based on updated information and more recent data.

It's good news actually.

Where are you getting this from? I don't know if you are one of the members who have talked about the media (insert your favorite straw man) being hysterical...but posts like this are no different IMO.

I wonder how many anti-mask people have gotten so angry they've beaten up someone for wearing a mask? See how stupid that sounds?

I don't think he's flip-flopping, I think he's just trying to be positive. Key statement from Dr. Fauci: “If we do the kinds of things that we’re putting in place now ― to have the workforce, the system, and the will to do the kinds of things that are the clear and effective identification, isolation and contact tracing ― we can prevent this second wave that we’re talking about. If we do it correctly.” He stressed that people should be “prudent” and follow CDC guidelines.

Whether we can do the kinds of things we need to do to prevent a 2nd wave still remains to be seen. Even with his more positive statement, it still has a cautionary tone to it, & we don't have a vaccine, Remdesivir is pretty much still a non-factor at the moment, & people are becoming increasingly defiant & complacent & none of that bodes well for doing it "correctly" or being "prudent."

If governments around the world make plans to reopen their economies to their populations; one of the ways for that to be successful among society, along with social distancing & frequent hand washing, is that people need to wear masks outdoors as a compulsory measure to effectively extinguish the virus across the globe. This is to allow people around the world to get back some form of stability they have had in their lives before the pandemic had affected their lives in a myriad of unexpected ways.

I'm not saying that there are no indications out there to say that wearing masks is the only way to suppress the virus. What I'm saying is that it has to be done with a combination of other measures that have killed the virus from the very start of the pandemic even before the debate on masks became public among our global population. Every government from every country in the world should take action on this because they have ample opportunities now to make a huge difference in making their populations wear masks to make them that little bit safer from catching this virus especially for countries like Bangladesh, Brazil & Russia. This is because they are countries that are currently having huge problems with trying to get rid of Covid-19 among their populations right now as it feels like a mammoth task to get rid of it.

Vladamir Putin even said in a press conference earlier that Russia's government has actually worked hard on measures to suppress the virus in the country. But as he is a president that keeps information to a minimum on how things are done there because of propaganda. People would need to assess his claim of the virus being suppressed in Russia with the greatest amount of credibility available to them because I don't know if he is telling the truth or not.

Today I went to eat at Longhorn, went to Barnes & Noble, went to my local movie theatre, and lastly Walmart.

Hardly anyone is wearing masks here anymore. Families are out and about and the young kids aren't in masks. Elderly people are going around with masks too. So many.

"The three experts, who are specialists in chemistry and infectious diseases, said aerosols from breathing and speaking “can accumulate, remain infectious in indoor air for hours, and be easily inhaled deep into the lungs.” That makes wearing masks all the more essential, they said, even when people are keeping their distance. One another note, I really don’t understand how there are nutcases out there that actually think it’s their right to go into a store without a mask and then throw a hissy fit when mandated to wear one. That store is not your property nor do you own the place. If you don’t like the rules, no one is forcing you to go into the store. Feel free to leave. This is no different than walking into someone’s home and being asked to take your shoes off.

The WHO classifies a contact as someone who you've been "face to face within one meter for OVER 15 MINUTES" with, you're definitely fine running without a mask and not moving off the sidewalk/trail for those 1-2 seconds you might be within 2m.

Yeah, this alternate Earth here in the UK seems great so far with lockdown

I'd like to point out for the record, i'm not an idiot of the facts. I feel i'm dealing with things pragmatically and in fact have been adhering to the rules as best as possible most of the time. Plus, i haven't made any 260 round mile trips or driven to a castle to "Test my eyes out" to see if i should drive

He's going to get a lot of crap and he's BoJo's right hand man or puppet master depending on who you ask.

Okay, so i guess it's fair to say that your job and disposition as you've admitted to being a germaphobe is obviously going to make you more likely to be fearful than others and hence the shower. That's understandable to me for your specific situation but it's still not imo the way the majority are likely to deal with the situation i guess was my point.

I strongly believe the majority of a populations adhering to it depends on certain factors and those can include many, many countries around the world but it isn't news worthy to show. "Today, everybody stayed home and stood 2 metres apart as advised. That's all". Yet a few idiots breaking guidelines and so on is focused on. It's always been the way. It's almost inevitable this will and does happen, because people can be idiots.

If a rule of law i guess has been brought in where you have to wear a facemask or be refused entry, it's a very small compromise and i have even said myself that i would do it. To refuse is silly and makes little sense unless somebody cannot afford one at all, which is a bit unlikely. Otherwise you wouldn't be shopping either if you can't afford the price of even a mask.

Also, mind the smelly socks
